I have fine hair, but a good deal of it, and my style sounds similar to yours. I noticed over the last few years that the texture was changing and I, too, wanted smoother, more nourished ("heavier") hair.

I now swear by Davines products. They're pricey, but so worth it. Without seeing your hair, I would recommend the OI shampoo and conditioner, followed by the OI milk before blowdrying (it protects, adds a touch of volume and very light hold). These are good products for all hair types. These were the first Davines products I used and my hair loved the change.

Tips: Squeeze out as much water as possible before applying the conditioner and then comb it through and leave on for a few minutes. Once out of the shower, let your hair air dry for a few minutes before spraying in the milk, then comb through.

I've since added a Davines hair mask (weekly application) and two other shampoo/conditioners to my routine. I always use the OI milk before blowdrying and a little OI oil on the ends of my hair.

I'm not affiliated with Davines, just love the products!

Updating your hairstyle is one of Angie's top recommendations for refreshing your overall style. I know it can be scary...but honestly, you get the most bang for your $$ when you take a risk with hair (which grows back anyway.)

I do understand that it can be scary, though.

As for products, I tend to use something to reduce frizz in humidity (e.g. argan oil type stuff) and also some product after it dries to keep it in place. But my hair is very thick, relatively fine, and short.

I hope you'll share a pic, because I think it helps all of us who are experiencing changes in our hair to follow along.

Mine is definitely not as thick as it used to be, and the curl has loosened a bit. The greys that come in do tend to be more wiry, which I don't love. I have always fought frizz, but products these days are so much better than what we had in the 80s that I have a much better handle on that now. I use some "It's a 10"' after washing that helps with control a bit, and I also have been using a sample size of Living Proof Prime Style Extender (from Sephora) that seems to do a nice job of smoothing.

Aziraphale-- yup. That's it. Although I am likely further down the road than you are. Rachylou- I don't think my hair is brittle but will ask my hairdresser. Suz-I asked him about it and he changed something about the cut (I can't remember). All totally normal and expected changes to "older" hair -- I just figured you all might have some products or techniques that have worked on your hair.

I am not mentally ready to try a new hairstyle. I am trying to do the "shop your closet" approach to my hair where I spend some time every day getting my current style looking good using a product and using a blow dryer. We are talking baby steps.
(I have spent years running out of the house with wet hair in a ponytail -- Rome wasn't built in a day )

I agree that a picture would be helpful.

My hair's texture hasn't changed much over the years, but it's not as thick and heavy as it once was. Also, I'm noticing that the new white hairs (there suddenly seem to be quite a few around my temples!) are much curlier than the rest of it. I don't think that is uncommon. This could be what's going on with your hair.

Is it getting curly and/or more brittle? If you have breakage, then you'd want maybe different products than the fineness and unruliness might suggest alone...

Yes -- too difficult to say without a picture. And have you asked your stylist about the changes in texture? Some change is pretty typical as we age, I believe, but maybe that means it's time for a new style, too?

Hair goes from a little past shoulder length to a little above (depending on my mood when I get into the salon) with light bangs and light layers in front. I have had this style or some variation of it for many years. My stylist is trustworthy--he always remembers the specific "tricks" for cutting my hair and he listens very well--but I've not given him the opportunity to make a big change to my hairdo.
Eta: His wife does my highlights so I'be got that going on too

My hair is somehow managing to get more fine and more unruly at the same time. I would love suggestions on how to make my hair feel and act heavier and smoother. Products? Is silicone helpful Equipment? My friends swear by their special blow driers.

I currently have zero patience for hair styling and it shows. I used to be able to wear my hair in a square cut at my chin and it would just hang there perfectly straight, sigh.

Actually it's a little annoying that the bottom half of my hair (that nobody sees) is still straight and dark while the top half is greyimg and wispy and unruly but there you have it.
