Sara the blouse is stunning and I love how you have styled it. And thank you for this post, I have just bought a sheer white flowy blouse too and am having the same challenge. I would love to see some pics of your styling options as per all the above suggestions:)

Another option might be a nude cami; it'll still grin, of course. You'll still have that horizontal line at your hips, but it'll be less noticeable because the white->dark blue contrast is higher than the nude->dark blue contrast.

Love the blouse, BTW. You style it so beautifully!

This was helpful because I have a sheer flowered blouse that makes me feel like a fish outta water. Now I have a couple of neat ideas, gonna try it with a vest and an over sweater, as well as colored dark cami. Yay Sara!

I think you should give the high/low cropped sweater a try. Might prove to be pleasantly cohesive!

Thanks everyone for the great ideas!

Una - It never occurred to me to layer it under a sweater or blazer (I can be sooo un-creative!).

@Diana - Different colored camis might be fun, I'm going to try that out.

@Emily, @JR, @Suz, Clair and @Janet - I'm glad to know that darker camis are acceptable under a white shirt. I'd like to wear it with black but hated the grinning effect with white cami and black pants. I do have a sequined tank that's fairly long so I'm not sure how it will look, but I'm going to experiment with it.

@Nidhi Cute picture! I don't have any vests but I do have a couple tanks that might act as vests if layered over the shirt.

@Makrame - I don't have a riding jacket, but I have blazers that I can try out.

@Suz I'm generally on Team Untuck, but you're right that the shirt is so sheer that it probably won't be bulky if I tuck it in.

@Rachylou - I have several sweaters that might look good on top, although the only cropped one I have also has a high-low hem. I'm not sure how that would look - maybe too much high/low going on?

I have so many ideas to experiment with now!

You look beautiful! I have seen this type of shirt with a blazer or sweater over it, especially when sheer.

I could see this with a waistcoat or a blazer over it, with all manner of slim bottoms. I bet it would look great with printed jeans if you like those! You could also tuck it in to trousers or a skirt for a different look.

I think it's sheer enough that you could pair any color cami underneath and it would look intentional. A while back, I saw a woman wearing a sheer white blouse with a bright red cami under it and really liked the look.

Wow, gorgeous blouse and a great outfit!

I've heard dark cami under sheer blouse referred to as a "European" look. :)

Do you have a riding jacket (like the Gibson jacket from Nordstrom), with a longer hem in the back? That could be another outfit variation.

I like it a lot, and I like the way you styled it. I have a similar piece but in bright blue. I agree with Emily and the others that a dark cami and dark jeans are a nice way to eliminate the grinning. A vest is a great idea too!

I've seen black camis or tanks under sheer white blouses a lot lately. It seems like the "younger" way to wear a white blouse. I even saw pictures of a sophisticated French woman ( of a certain age) wearing a black bra under a partially transparent--but not super sheer --blouse. In a way, that struck me as *more* modest than wearing a nude bra underneath. When someone does that, I find myself trying to figure out what she has on underneath, ie: Heavens, is she wearing a bra at all? In summer it is just TOO hot to wear a cami here, and it seems like all of the white blouses are at least semi-sheer. What to do?

I have a sheer long-sleeved peasant top in white. I usually wear it with a white or a gray cami. It is not as long as yours so I do not face the grinning effect. I have worn it alone and also with a gray vest and colored cropped pants. Posting a pic of this look - my cheeky grin is thanks to the DH trying to photograph me like in the Sartorialist's blog

It is super pretty on you so even if you only can wear it one way, I think it was a good purchase! It looks fab in this combination.

Try it with a dark cami, too, for sure. And heck, if it were me, I'd be tempted to tuck it sometimes. I know you'd lose the cool high-low hemline that way, but because it is so light it is easy to tuck and would look completely different that way.

Also, if you had a boxy shorter sequinned tank or some kind of vest, I wonder how that would look with it?

I'm glad to see that wearing a dark cami has received Angie's imprimatur, because that is what I would do. When a blouse is that sheer, everyone sees the cami anyway, so might as well eliminate the horizontal line in the middle. You could even wear a medium-dark blue cami if you wanted to blend even better, although black would probably work really well.

As for how else to style it, I hope you get some good answers. That very question has been one reason I've avoided this style.

That blouse is beautiful, the outfit you put together looks great - love the chiffon top and leather jacket!

I think it would look great with a black cami and skinny black pants, then the grin (as Angie called it - http://youlookfab.com/2011/07/.....g-garment/) would not be as apparent. I want to say belted over a pencil skirt as well, but that might be a terrible idea, I'm not sure

I hoping you guys can help me figure out how to style this shirt. I recently bought this blouse with a high-low hem and am having problems coming up with ways to wear it. I wore it to dinner and movie with my husband with skinny jeans, leopard print pumps and my black moto jacket and really liked the outfit (see below),

The question is what else can I do with it? Also, I find the sheerness confusing. Should I only wear a white camisole underneath although it causes a line where the top and bottom meet up? Can I wear a dark camisole underneath to get rid of the line? Is dark under white tacky? Help!
