Hmm, Angie -- I realized I may like this chalky yellowish color better if the laces were a contrasting true white. (In reality, they match the shoe.) I'lll change them out before I decide whether to keep the shoes.

If this color were really "nude," I'd be happier, but I fear they make me look a little sickly, being neither an actual yellow nor white white.

We wear the same shoe size, April! I'm into canary yellow for Summer and grey for colder days. I prefer Cons with laces, but that’s because I’m obsessed with white things. I find the white laces magical – especially when you keep them looking white. I’m loving the nude colour you got, though.

I have lace-up Cons in black, a "pierced" white and the slip ons in grey. The grey color is my favorite but I wish they were lace ups. The slip ons are fine but look more casual than the laceups to me. On the other hand, they are great for airline travel because you don't need to tie them. I've considered trying to convert the slip ons to lace ups by taking out the stitching. Has anyone done this?

Oh my goodness, you all are the best. I totally missed the distinction between "white" and "optical white," and hmm, the "natural" slip-on is interesting as well. This time I should probably get one of each and see for myself.

Two more questions:

1. Anyone tried the slip-ons as opposed to the lace-ups?

2. Anyone want a nearly-new pair of "unbleached whites"?

It sounds like the "white" *is* what April got.
What about this "natural"?-
http://www.zappos.com/product/7171208/color/19
I also see a Milk color and the parchment/oatmeal (all in different styles on Zappos) I don't see any of those colors in a regular low top lace up on Zappos, though.

i was going to say the same thing - converse makes its own distinction between "white" and "optical white," so the former is the one you want!

It sounds to me like what you're looking for is "white" versus "optical white." I find that the converse "regular" white is precisely an unbleached sort of natural color, while they made "optical white" to satisfy people who really wanted WHITE-white when they said "white."

Have a gander:
Converse in white and optical white:

I got my first pair of Cons a few weeks back and though I love the look, I am not happy with the color I chose. What I wanted was sort of a natural linen shade rather than an optical white, so I ordered something called "unbleached white." It turned out to be more of a very pale yellow (think a stick of light yellow chalk) that just does not look good next to my skin. I have only worn them a couple of times, with full insoles, and would be happy to pass them along to a more deserving home if anyone is interested. Women's 6.5.

Anyway, back to the drawing board. Anyone know what color name I should be seeking? I had seen something called "parchment" in a store, but they didn't have my size and it doesn't seem to be one of their regular shades.

Any Cons afficionados out there who can weigh in?
