Lots of good feedback above. As someone who lives near SF (and frequently shows friends around), the main complaints I hear are:
1. "I didn't know it would be so cold. It looks so sunny!"
2. "I didn't realize there would be so much walking!"
I would echo the others that urge you to wear comfy shoes. Parking spots are seldom actually near the restaurant, and one hilly block can really hurt in the wrong shoes. Also, remember that the sun is warm but the wind is cold! Something that blocks the wind is more effective than, say, a cozy cashmere that lets the breeze through, especially on a boat (you mentioned Alcatraz). (You may know all this, of course, but even I forget this advice sometimes so it may be helpful.) I love the tips for what photographs well. Have fun.

Sounds like you're getting lots of good thoughts. I love your dinner outfit idea, but I wanted to ask what you happiness factor is in the pencil and button down. It is a fab, but "buttoned up" look for you. Perhaps that's part of the fun, in which case, I say "go for it!" I just know I sometimes dampen my own feelings of fabness to dress to environmental expectations.

For the rest --- make sure your shoes are real walkers, and don't wear a single pair for two consecutive days of walking if you can help it!
Wow! $tone$ tix; I'm impre$$ed. Never seen tix that $$$. I went to Altamont cuz it was free, relatively close by, and I was able to snag a ride. DH got us tix to Steel Wheel(chair)s. Who wudda thought that Keith Richard would still be around in 2013?

Don't forget that Chinatown is hilly so higher pumps can be precarious, unless the restaurant is in the Richmond so pretty flat and so heel friendly.
You've already received great suggestions for outfit ideas Denise so don't have anything in particular to add. As for the outfit for meeting up with the Ex, definitely NOT your frumpiest - lol! Not that you could do frumpy anyway. Something you feel really good in. And let go of the guilt - my mother always says "guilt is such a wasted emotion involving too much energy".

For seeing the ex I would go for dressed down, but looking good. Something that he would think of as a relatively casual outfit for you, but that you feel comfortable and look hot in.

I actually think you have tons of stuff for this situation. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Lol! I'm not good at thinking of outfits from scratch but I agree about no white for the crab meal. I'd also recommend machine washable and a comfortable waist band Your comment about the frumpy outfit makes me laugh. I think respectable and polished would be appropriate. Nothing too trendy or out there.

Thanks every one! I will certainly post outfit ideas as I get closer.

But you all have already made some excellent points that I had not considered:
- an outfit that hides the stains for the crab meal.
- not all black for the photo day (I have a really bad picture from my father's funeral that attests to the fact that black doesn't photograph well).
- don't wear much jewelry for walking and shopping
- for a walking day start with my most comfortable shoes and work up from there.
- I appreciate the support about the ex. I actually ended the marriage, so it's guilt I still deal with, more like I don't want to cause him any more pain. What to wear in a situation like that? My frumpiest outfit?

I love the sound of the outfit for Mum's 80th!

As for an outfit that photographs well - stay away from black. Colours photograph best, and shades of white are pretty good too. And black WITH white is excellent on photos.

The other activities are pretty casual. And we'll need to find you an outfit that makes you feel EXTRA confidant and fab when you see your ex. Perhaps you can give us a selection, Denise? You always look sensational so it's hard to isolate the best outfits. No matter what though, you'll look just perfect.
Whatever you wear to meet the eXH, it should have a really nice view from the backside, so you can give him something to think about as you walk away. (Yeah, when it comes to certain scenarios, I'm 'give no quarter' kinda gal)

I like your idea for the dinner with your mom at the Chinese restaurant. For my part, I wouldn't be able to resist adding some accessory that has a Journey-to-the-Orient theme. Something with jade, or a scarf or jewelry piece with Chinese calligraphy.

Eating crab involves butter sauce, right? It usually does for me. So I'd wear something dark, and easily laundered, because I'm a messy eater when I have to break open shells.

The brunch... wear something you feel beautiful in :)
Denise, this sounds like a lot of wonderful events (except the ExH meet up). I don't think I know the details of your wardrobe well enough yet to make particular suggestions, but I do remember the red "paper bag" clutch. It will be über cool with the pencil and button down. Thumbs up! It would be a little easier to make suggestions if you have any pics to share. Of course, Suz has made several good ones already, too.

"One that has tablecloths." That is a classic line, Denise!!

Obviously, I will cheer if you wear an outfit like my Vertigo outfit for your mother's birthday party! I think touches of red would be nice in a Chinese restaurant. And your fab accessories will kick it all up by a million per cent.

For the crab meal, you won't want to be wearing white. I am thinking a patterned top of some kind might be ideal, in case of some splatters.

Walking: What are your best looking but most comfortable shoes? Ditto for shopping...I guess you will want clothes that are easy on/ easy off and a hairstyle that is muss proof. Not too many bits of jewellery that need to be removed.

Farewell brunch: I have seen you put together some amazing outfits for your visits with your mother. In the fall you wore that great OnlyMine sweater. I think something in a colour that flatters but that is simple - like that - would be great for these photos. I am not too sure what you've got for tops right now (for tops that work in whatever temps. you'll be facing).

As for the Stones concert......WOW you are so lucky!!!! And absolutely, pull out all the stops for that one. Go for as trendy as you like. I am into the idea of crossover pants for this...but maybe a pair of your best skinny jeans with some great wedges and your leather jacket. Clichéd, perhaps...but iconic for a reason. And a kind of tribute.

ETA: I realize that I left off the biggie! Well, I mean the most fraught meeting.
Hmmm. What to wear when talking to the ex? You want to look fantastic, of course. You want to feel comfortable, because if you are awkward, that will come across and your clothes are the last thing you want to worry about. What do you have that is both comfortable and great-looking?

This is not very helpful, I know.

In less than two weeks I have a trip to San Francisco and a few weeks later to San Jose to see the Rolling Stones! All of this out-of-the-ordinary is against my routine and I find myself wanting to dig into my wardrobe for some fantastic outfits. Here are the events:

- My mother's 80th birthday party. At a Chinese restaurant. One that has table cloths. Anything goes in SF but I was thinking of wearing a black pencil skirt, white button down, pumps and my red sack clutch. Much like Suz's outfit for the Vertigo challenge.
- A more casual dinner at a Vietnamese seafood restaurant, where we will wrestle with crab.
- Some walking activities like Alcatraz
- My usual shopping the Union Square district
- A farewell brunch, knowing my mother she will want to take lots of pictures that day so I want something that will photograph well and not too trendy.
- Meeting with my eXH to exchange stuff (giving him back some books, he's giving me some artwork). Boyfriend is not coming for this, but Mom is for moral support.
- A few weeks later, the Rolling Stones concert where any thing goes! There will surely be folks even older than myself, I'm not afraid of being a bit foolish.

Any suggestions, ideas? Thanks a million!!
