I have an old gym bag gifted to me by a friend. When it wears out, I would look at MZ Wallace. Their bags wear like iron.

This is technically a gym bag, but I generally use it more as a weekend travel bag. What I like about it, it opens wide, it has inner pockets for shoes, wet stuff, toiletries etc. also like that there is a long adjustable strap if I want to carry it on my shoulder, but also shorter hands if I want to hand carry. But most of all, I love the material which is scuba like. Pricing, but worth it,as it’s held up really well.

LJP what a great looking bag & it has held up so well! I wouldn’t buy at that price point either—unless I knew it would last decades-& yours did!

My Lululemon bag is at least a decade old but the handles are now looking very shabby (the vinyl is peeling, which is I guess bound to happen after years and years of constant use.). It was so expensive, and I doubt I'll buy at that price point again, so I'm following this thread with great interest. I don't carry as much as you list above though - just shoes, towel, water , mask, access card and lip balm. It's the one below, which is not mine - just a photo found online. It fits in lockers in the two gyms I've frequented in the past decade.

My gym bag is from the early 90s. It is the perfect size for my needs and durable (obviously). I am not sure what the material is, but I haven't seen anything like it recently. It is crinkly and lightweight. The body is cognac, and the straps are black. There are two small pockets.
I have looked at Lululemon bags. I would probably get one of those if I were looking for a new one.

I found a good bag at Vera Bradley. It’s a solid color nylon, not one of her fabric bags. It was well priced and has been durable.

I can't speak highly enough of the products from MZ Wallace. I have the medium metro tote and can confidently say it will be the only carry on and gym bag I will ever use moving forward. Padded, light weight, stylish and easy to organize all the things. It is spendy, but I feel it is well worth it. They have many sizes and colors to choose from.

I just realized It’s been over two years since I’ve been to the gym. I do have a bag that I picked up from Winners. It has 4 exterior pockets and a divider in the centre. Previously I had a lululemon bag and although lovely it had two strikes. It did not actually fit into the locker at the gym. And, it was very heavy even before packing it up.
My two daughters have adidas bags from sport check. Both are fans.

I was just looking at this and wondered if something along these lines suits your needs. On my phone so I can’t do Finds, sorry. This is on the Nordstrom site.

Ooh, Herschel has a pretty one. I like the idea of a fun print.

I’ve got a lovely Lululemon bag, left behind many years ago by DD. ( how is it that our kids have nicer stuff than we do?) it’s great as a weekend bag as well with some nice compartments.
When the weather is good I cycle to the pool using the little knapsack that was one of the Nordstroms top picks last year. It is small, but functional, and great for fitting in the locker. Probably a two strap knapsack design would be better for cycling…but this is sooo cute.

I have packable duffles from Target of all places- 1 is for regular gym stuff, the other for swimming. They're big enough to hold everything, but can be crammed into a little locker.

I haven’t been a member of a gym in a while, but I have a great little bag that was a hotel bonus from the Art Hotel in Amsterdam, which I used when I was going to a pool for swim sessions. Not very helpful to you, though.

Tagging on… I’ve been on the lookout for something similar, a replacement for an old weekend bag that just bit the dust on my recent road trip — the zipper finally gave up and broke right off. I’d had it for at least 12 years, maybe more like 15. It was by Dav and used to also have a matching umbrella. They made rainboots too. Not even sure if they are still in business, but I would repeat that purchase in a heartbeat. It had great zipper pockets on the outside, easy to clean, and a bright inside so it was always easy to find things in it (why are so many bags lined with black or dark colors?). I liked that it had a removable flat panel in the bottom to help keep its structure when it was empty, and that it was a duffel shape with wide access. I don’t like anything that has too narrow an opening, so you have to pull out other things to get to what you need.

One thing that bag didn’t have that I would like next time is a zipper that zips from both sides — makes it easier to open and close when it’s very full.

So as I’m keeping an eye out for a good weekender bag, I’ll keep your gym bag requirements in mind too.

Ok, like I’ve ever darkened the door of a gym… but I’m reminded of a type of bag I saw while looking for emergency go bags (since I live in fire country). I know you said one large compartment, but I liked the idea of this type because of a shoe compartment.

A bag of any kind is a very personal choice. Make a list of everything you put in a gym bag. I would want something waterproof and a duffle type that would hold my handbag. Something that can be stuffed into a gym locker and be able to close the door and lock it. A water bottle mesh outer pocket would be nice.

Time for a new large sized gym bag. Something that will hold a complete change of clothes, shoes, towel, toiletries kit, water bottle, and some sundry equipment I use at the gym.

Generally I like one big compartment that opens wide for easy access. My last bag was lightly padded - which I liked a lot.

What bag do you use, and what do you like about it?
