Thanks, FashIntern, that's all interesting information! Maybe my reaction to bodysuits comes from the fact that as a child and teen I did ballet, and often wore my leotard under regular clothes to and from classes. I have that memory of having to strip down in order to use the restroom, and/or maneuver the leotard sleeves under a shirt! I do like how smooth bodysuits look, especially now that we're going back to tucking...

I find bodysuits inexplicably warmer than undershirts of the same weight, even when there is something the latter can be tucked into. Wearing one that’s too small would be just as uncomfortable as a too-small 1 piece swimsuit. They usually have snaps down there, but depending on how long the pieces on each side are, you may need to make sure the back one doesn’t dangle into the water. Otherwise, once unsnapped, they’re basically long shirts. Danskin and Capezio might be good sources—my phone insists on showing me options in Germany, so I’m not much help, although this is an international store https://www.forever21.com/eu/s.....A-EALw_wcB

FashIntern, I had missed that thread--catching up now. As for bodysuits, I've never worn one. They look uncomfortable to my eyes. Do they unbutton for easy bathroom trips?

Sara L., I have also worn camis with deep necklines partly because I'm small-chested so they help cover any gaping. My concern with this one is that if I were to wear a long-sleeve tee, the sides of the tee's neckline could show under the sides of the dress neckline (not sure if this makes sense?!) But perhaps a heattech-type cami + a jacket like the burgundy one would be a good combo.

PS or I can do what I do when I swim; I run cold and the pool is on the cool side, so I slather my arms and hands with Vaseline. After I leave the pool and shower, the Vaseline remains and actually makes me feel too warm (But no, I don't want to do this under my velvet dress)

I like the shape and color of the burgundy one. I like the idea of monochromatic look with your dress. I would try to layer under for more warmth too, but I agree that the v-neck might be problematic. I run cold too and wear camis under almost everything in the winter, but I'm occasionally foiled by deep necklines.

Oh yes--good point, FashIntern--I'm sure I would!!! I have black and navy dresses for nicer occasions that would go well, and could dress it down with so many bottoms.

Trying to figure out if same could be said about caramel jacket. I love the color but I wonder if the square, straight, collarless silhouette is too casual.

OK, now I want both

You said above that the burgundy is your favorite. I’ve been pretty open lately about how much I like warm colors and reds in the winter, so you know I like that one too. Would it get a lot of use with the rest of your wardrobe?

PS. I'm now down to two finalists (caramel vs burgundy)--thoughts either way? I like the color of the caramel better, but the shape of the burgundy better.

Silver faux already sold out in my size although I had reservations about the boxy cut--the shoulders are so wide and square, it almost looks like there are shoulder pads.

Rachylou, FashIntern, kkards--layering a thermal tee under is a good idea in principle, but I think it might be challenging given the wrap-front bodice and the deep v-neck. I could see how it could actually look interesting, but only if the sides of the thermal tee didn't conflict with the neckline of the dress. I even wondered about layering a turtleneck?!?

In any case, I run very cold, so I also am not sure that just a thermal tee would be enough...

RobinF, glad to have another vote for the all-burgundy look! Target actually styled the jacket with a burgundy skirt and shirt, and I like the monochromatic outfit. I do wonder about texture. In my case the velvet would have the same furry, shiny texture as the coat, whereas in the Target outfit pictured below, there is a texture difference.

alwaystrying, I live in the cold, so in my case the faux-fur topper would be a midlayer between the dress and a puffer. I suppose it could be a jacket on its own come Spring!

go doe the faux fur if you can find one that works. I live in a warmer climate, but my faux fir is a go to topper for our few colder days/evenings, as it can be dressed up or down. great dress...

I like the fur jackets. I think the color would depend on what else you are wearing. The silver would be fun with silver shoes and I like the all burgundy look too. I agree that a short length would work best with the full skirt of the dress. Love that dress!

Yes, to layering under...try Uniqlo heattech (FYI they now have at least 2 levels of warmth, i own both and find them both easy to layer over)...then add a great wool scarf/shawl....that will let the dress shine and give you the warmth you need

KMM, yes, the dress is velvet. The light-colored jacket on the pic is a light silver gray. I do have a black wool cape though, I wonder if that will work in case I don't find anything else. I'll try it on.

thanks everyone!

Yes I thought faux fur too - a swingy jacket or cape or wrap - I think white, caramel or black or leopard.... not burgundy.

A jacket is potentially more useful for casual in the future- they look great with jeans - but a wrap or cape would be more dressy.

The toppers are all so fun. I actually think any of them could work, just depends on whether you want to go for more contrast or a monochromatic look. And also which color you’ll get more wear out of in the long run.

Beautiful dress! Yeah I think the burgundy on burgundy would be too much. I think the black faux fur would work well. Also potentially: classic wool dress coat, leopard coat, knit blazer (with stretch), leather jacket.

Can’t tell from the find, is the dress velvet? If so I love the of mixing these textures! Velvet with faux fur sounds so lux. Either way, I think you can’t go wrong with either the black or white.

I was going to suggest something faux fur or shaggy, even before I read all of your post. I like white.

ISO of a topper for this burgundy dress (first find). My challenges:

1. The sleeves are puffy; not too much, but enough that a tight cardigan or blazer wouldn't fit

2. I run cold, so can't wear the dress on its own

3. I need to be able to layer a puffer coat on top of everything because I'll be walking outside in frigid temps

4. The topper should be dressy because I'll be attending a holiday performance

I don't have anything that works. My cardigans are too thin and also way too casual. I'm thinking along the lines of a faux-fur or thick-knit short jacket or cropped coatigan as shown in finds 2, 3, and 4.

Any thoughts on these finds? (Would the burgundy-on-burgundy with Find 2 be too much?) Other suggestions?
