I'm currently reading and enjoying Jackie Fraser's The Bookshop of Second Chances. It's easy to pick up and put down, so would probably work for a plane trip, but engaging enough to keep me wanting to pick it up again.

This is neither new nor fiction, but it is a light, easy read while being thought-promoting in a fun way. I don’t know if it’s a good plane book though, because I’ve never been able to read anything more than an in-flight magazine on a plane. https://www.maryroach.net/packing-for-mars.html

The sample chapters of the Thursday Murder Club and Jack Reacher books look good, so I'll get them. Nancy, I've been reading Maisie Dobbs for years but see I'm behind. I also found a Louise Penney I bought but haven't read yet because of the negative reviews.

Kkards and Helena, I'll check out your suggestions. And bonnie, I used to read Michael Connelly. I'll check them out.

Just realized browsing the racks at the airport and bookstores.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. I certainly need some engaging distractions for the next 2 months. Mr. Maven isn't much for mysteries, but maybe he'll try one. He'll probably do puzzles for the plane, or even work--I hope not.

Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear is the first in a series. Mystery/detective/cultural history of England between the Wars, and a charming main character.

I really enjoyed The Guest List, a moody suspense mystery type book, and an easy read.

I read this on vacation this year and loved it , The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I think it’s prefect for a travel read.
I haven’t read the Thursday murder club books that rachylou recommended, but one of my sisters loves them.

Safe travels

I enjoyed reading The Chilbury Ladies' Choir and I think it might fit the bill. It takes place during World War II, but it is heartwarming and sweet. Reminded me of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I didn't read that book but watched the movie on Netflix and I find it endearing as well.

You don’t have to read the Jack Reacher series ( he’s the hero) in order although I have found it helpful to mostly do that. One in the series is a throwback to an earlier time so there is probably some information online somewhere about when they are all set. They are violent but usually it’s the baddies who get beaten up!

Well… we have just finished the latest and second-to-latest Jack Reacher books. Not sure if you have ever read them-definitely popular fiction and not at all high-brow. You’d either like that sort of thing or not I suspect. These two are by the original author Lee Child and his younger brother Andrew Child. We always get from the library…

Our trip is still on. It’s been an intense time. Looking for suggestions for airplane/vacation books. Any good mysteries lately? Fiction or nonfiction that is uplifting? Enough of the heavy stuff! We need a break for a short escape.
