Also, I have to give a shoutout for "Clybourne Park," which just opened on Broadway this week. I saw it in Los Angeles with the same cast and it was ridiculously good. Be sure and Netflix the movie of "Raisin in the Sun" before you leave, because "Clybourne Park" is sort of a sequel. Just crazy good.

You guys are great! Mary, I am definitely going to try for Book of Mormon... it is a very mixed age group, so that is not on our list to see as a group, but I am hoping to get a small group to try to snag some tickets for a show during our down time.

Ooooh! Sounds like fun! I was there in the heat wave of March. I wore a variety of outfits for the strange and varying weather conditions, including a jersey dress with cardigan topper, a pencil skirt, and skinny jeans with a jacket.

I was also there last summer and wore similar outfits.

People really wear whatever. I would definitely bring some sort of topper for the air conditioning, however.

It depends on whether you are going to the afternoon, evening or weekend shows. The evening weekday shows are bit more dressy. People wear whatever they like but I make an effort to dress up when I go, especially to the evening shows.
If you are not dead set on what shows you'll be watching, there is great deals on the ticket master boot on Broadway.

I was just there and saw a bunch of shows and agree that people wear anything and everything but it's nice to make an effort. I was there in February when it was cold, and I wore skinny jeans, boots, silk blouses, and leather jacket and/or fur vest. (You can see photos on my YLF blog.) For July I would wear pretty summer dresses or capris and pretty silk tops, and great shoes.

And whatever you do, pay whatever it costs to the scalpers to see "Book of Mormon." Best. show. ever. No kidding. I got my tix from Stub Hub and paid a fortune and it was worth every penny!

Comfy poly/spandex dresses, cardigans or jackets for layering and comfortable shoes!! Extra comfortable shoes!! These days anything goes for the shows and NY in general but you still want to dress for the excitement and importance of the occasion. You will see it ALL on the streets of NY but for the most part the New Yorkers are the ones who look polished and the tourists are the ones in baggy jeans that haven't been updated since the 80's, sneaks and T-shirts. Don't be one of them. Dress better for Broadway.

People wear pretty much anything to the shows. I personally think it is more special if you dress up but it seems that pretty much anything goes. It will be warm in July so take that into consideration. A silky dress or a great skirt or slacks with a silky top would look really nice.

We will be visiting New York City this July with a group of theater fans, seeing probably 8-9 shows in 9 days. I was wondering what was appropriate to wear to Broadway shows these days.... I haven't been since I was in high school and that has been more than a few years! Any advice?
