Good advice here. I don't wear anything too special because it could get damaged from drinks, etc. I like approprio's idea of support hose. Other people have told me that they work like a charm. And the small bag is a necessity.

I remember many a fun night dancing to KMFDM! I think I would channel my early 90's look of doc martins, tights, floral dress- but all of the above ideas are great too. Have fun!!!

At a KMFDM show you're unlikely to see anything but a sea of black. Stompy boots are de rigeur but probably also some more femme gothy looks.

I'm jealous! Have a blast.

I go to lots of gigs and Style Fan and Janet have already given some great tips.

I tend to dress very casually, nothing fancy. You never know when someone's going to spill a drink close by. My golden rule is comfortable shoes and as small a bag as possible, (just enough for cash, phone, lippy etc) preferably cross-body or fanny-pack. You'll need your hands free to carry the drinks.

My secret weapon on dance events is sheer support tights (pantyhose). I wear them under shorts or a midi skirt and they prop my legs up all night. They can always keep me on my feet until the small hours, even at my advancing years.

The temps in NYC at that time could be cool enough for a leather jacket, or just as likely too warm. You will have to check, but don't need to rule it out. Going by current temps, I'd say it will be too warm, but our weather has been known to turn. Plus, it's likely to be cool in the evening when you leave the concert. Instead of leather, you may want a utility or denim jacket that you can tie around your waist, if necessary.

I went to Irving Plaza a few months ago. It was cool when the main floor was sparsely populated during the opening acts, then warm once everyone crowded in for the headliners. I had a backpack that I had to put on the floor - huge mistake. Nice venue, and near my work too!

Sounds like so much fun! DH and I go to lots of concerts. I usually wear something similar to what Janet wears. The last concert I went to was Bob Dylan (no dancing) and it was pouring rain. I wore Paige BF jeans, Olive Green scoop neck T, Brown Leather Jacket and some sort of footwear (I forget now which ones). We are going to a concert in a couple of weeks and I am wearing eggplant jeans, cream T and I will decide on the jacket depending on the weather.

Janet - Looks like a good capsule although I'm not sure if the temperature will cool enough for a leather jacket. I do have the jeans, and will probably scrounge around for a black top, although my black tops have dwindled down these past few years.

As for shoes, I may wear my old doc wedge boots but I think my feet may not hold up well especially if I'm jumping around. I do have a pair of flat wing tip oxfords.

Thanks for your input.

Ah! That sounds like a blast!

You know I do this all the time. My fallbacks are black tops, denim, and black boots. I vary the silhouette depdning on mood and what kind of show I'm going to (i.e., bootcuts with pointed toe boots for Americana; cuffed/rolled skinnies or straights with combat/moto boots for punk ;-)). I usually stick with short sleeved or lightweight tops because shows can be hot and sweaty, especially if I'm dancing, and a bomber or moto jacket. A small crossbody bag or no bag at all if I have a good pocket situation for bare necessities of key, cash/cc/ID and phone.

I've attached a bunch of Finds that are either things I have worn for concerts or things I would wear if I owned them!

Hi all. Hubby and I are headed to NYC Columbus Day weekend for a long weekend of shopping, eating, dancing (lindy), and music. As you know, my taste ranges from retro to modern minimal, so I'll need your advice on what to wear at a rock concert. We are planning to see KMFDM (industrial dance) at Irving Plaza and while I don't want to dress down, I'd want comfortable rocker chic for someone in my age group. Any suggestions? (And I'm sure I'll be jumping up and down with the music so will need comfortable shoes. Hah Hah! )

Would anyone want to post some concert capsules below?
