Good luck with your blog and thinking about how to make it work!

When I think about "slow fashion", I think of using fewer clothes overall, buying fewer per year, making smarter choices so I stick with them and don't buy or toss on a whim, and also including buying "used" to be more "green". So then I think of fashion terms like versatility, multi-season, multi-purpose, quality, re-mixing, "French" wardrobe, core pieces, and so on.

If you use your belt example, a "regular" fashion example might be, I have and wear a lot of belts! A slow fashion example might be, "a belt wardrobe of 4 belts, one skinny and 1 wide, in waist length and hip length, will take care of most of your needs". Or, reversible belts. Or, what makes a belt last. Or even, "belts have more fashion longevity and don't take up much room so you can use them with a core group of __ (tops, bottoms) to keep from getting bored--here are outfits worn with and without a belt to give a totally different look.

Other examples, which I like to see on YLF, are, let's take last year's ballet flats and see what/how we can wear them with this year to make them look more modern.

With all the hype on oversized and fluid, I like your example and could see next year someone saying, let's see how we can take that boxy knit top you plunked $200 down for and belt it so it is now in style with the NEW more fitted sweater look!

I like A LOT the digestible, bite-sized bit of wisdom you shared... hourglass shape can get to looking bulky under clothes --> answer cinch at the waist.

I also like that you gave the year on your purchases for all sorts of reasons... the likelihood I'd find something similar right now, how things from a specific time in the past can travel well into the future...

And of course, visuals! Nothing explains like visuals.

All great advice, thanks!

I'll admit that I got the idea after talking to other stylists / style bloggers so I wasn't as much thinking about advice as just sharing how I wear the same things in different ways and providing inspiration for slow fashion.

The truth is that I wouldn't necessarily encourage people to copy the looks as much since I really think people should learn what works best on them and I am a rather unusual size / shape combination.

I have a lot more thinking to do now about what my goal really is!
Thanks for helping me focus. You have no idea how important that is!

Right now, this looks like a style blogger post (look at what I wore) and not a stylist's post (look at what you can wear). If the goal is to help the reader learn how to style her own items in different ways, it would be helpful to have some kind of explanation of what you have done in the two different outfits and how I can do something similar with my outfits.

And it would be more practical if you'd choose a more ordinary belt, the kind most women are likely to have in their closets. That belt is an outfit maker/style statement on its own, and I'm guessing very few women have belts like that in their closets.

Love the pics, love the outfits. I think one thing I look for in a fashion blog is explanation and analysis. So in this post you could have talked about belting volume over volume looks vs relatively trim, streamlined looks. Or something. More words to go with the lovely pics!

I can tell your outfits will be worth looking at.

Hi all,
I just started a new section of my blog and wanted to get some comments from the community. Only the first post has gone up yet.
I'm working on helping people learn how best to style what they already have and encourage a move toward slow fashion.

http://to-love-style.com/2014/02/22/belted/

Please leave me open, constructive, and honest criticism. I really appreciate it!
