They were out on the balcony and all of a sudden a tide of foul-smelling water poured onto their heads. We couldn't figure out what had happened, so we got the building manager to go upstairs. But I agree that vomit should give you extra credit in the luck department. As for a new bag, I recently bought a bag from Nat and Mat, a Quebec company. It wasn't until I got home that I realized it was vegan (and I'm a total snob about leather handbags) but the quality and style were so good that there was no way I was going to return it. He kept banging his head against the linoleum, so i wedged my heavy leather jacket underneath his head in an attempt to provide at least a bit of cushioning. </p> <p>Fortunately, he was okay. But he'd spit up. I took the jacket to the cleaners, said, 'well, this guy had a seizure...' and the clerk leapt in to say '...and there's vomit on your jacket?' Apparently it's not unknown. My jacket came back looking gorgeous and smelling fresh. My first thought is bird poop, but no, it's way too much. I look at my arm, which is dripping. Urine? Did someone toss the contents of a chamber pot out the window? Is this 19th-century London? No? I tentatively sniff my arm. It's foul. I look down at my handbag. There are small chunks. I look up at the derelict apartments above street level. O-K, I think. Someone has clearly VOMITED out the window and I have had the unbelievable misfortune to be in exactly the wrong place at the wrong time.</p> <p>So the upshot is, my clothes and hair have recovered, after having been washed three times....but I tossed my handbag. It was getting old anyway. Does anybody have a suggestion as to where I might find a dark brown or black leather bag with metal hardware? That's my usual preference. My last bag was Roots, but I'm curious to know if there are other brands I might try. I'm not much of a bag lady, and I'm not looking to spend more than a $250. Any suggestions are appreciated! </p>
