Business casual is like smart casual without the jeans. Wear the dress you feel great in, add hose, heels and your coat.

What do I WANT to wear? That's a tough one. I feel like my fall/winter wardrobe is kind of lacking and that my pants don't fit super well, so it's hard to feel inspired. now that our overall situation is much improved I will be able to start spending more on clothes, but probably not until after Christmas, so that makes it hard too. And then I'm never 100% sure what 'business casual' really means.

I have an H&M black short sleeve shirt dress with a full skirt that I really like and I feel flatters me. Maybe when I'm at the mall this weekend I'll look for a cardigan that is a color & has some embellishment. That would probably work well, don't you think? I guess I'd rather err on the side of dressier than casual. Dh will probably wear khakis with a plaid woven collared shirt. It's his uniform for these types of things.

Someday I'll find my camera cord so I can upload some pictures. I've found most things since we've moved, but that's one thing that is still missing.

Hi Christine. The formula you came up with sounds pretty good to me, especially if you can use the pencil skirt. Do you have any appropriate tops at the right length? Another suggestion would be a cute day dress + a jacket of some kind.
Whatever you wear, have a great time!

a business casual office party. My office is going to a somewhat trendy/upscale (from what I can gather) restaurant for our holiday party & I'm told the dress is 'business casual'. I hate that term. Anyway, I can probably afford to buy one new piece, but I need a formula for what to wear! I was thinking black dress pants/pencil skirt, shiny blouse & a cardigan? Maybe same bottoms and an embellished cardi & a tank underneath? Unfortunately I don't currently have fab jeans, but I have OK black dress pants & a well fitting black pencil skirt. I also have a nice v-neck sweater that is black, charcoal & bronze threads knitted together. From far away it looks black with a little sparkle. But I always worry about wearing it with black pants because it's so much black when I do.

What would you wear to a business casual office party?

Thanks!!!
