Bonnie - I enjoy the vneck looks on others, too.

Irina - yes! I hope it’s something about the cut of the tees I’m trying... I thought it would be a simple “throw a tee under a blazer and voila!”

I love the look of a simple t-shirt under a blazer but struggled with it. Somehow it didn’t work. And then I realized that my t-shirts are more scoop neck and not a crew neck. It ruined the look on me, Amy be because I’m short waisted. So, I tried tighter crew necks ans narrow v-necks and it looks much better.

I love the look of shirts under blazers and really admire those who can pull this combo off but not quite enough to look for the perfect shirt. I wear tees, knits, and graphic tees under my blazers for my casual style. I prefer a crew or boat neck. Wearing a V neck is tricky for me but looks great on other people.

Thanks, everyone! A scarf or statement necklace is a good idea...

Suz - yes! I am talking about a true blazer (with lapels, as opposed to a jacket with a collar). Your visuals are super helpful, too. Seems the necklines of your crew tees are higher than what I've been trying.

I have not thought to try a t-neck, but have a sleeveless mock or two I can try....

Back to my closet!

Yes, I will do that shirt collar buttoned to the top thing, too -- it's not as fussy feeling to me as competing open collars. Odd, isn't it?

But by "blazer" I mean a classic type of blazer vs. a collarless or collared jacket.

Try your tops with a scarf, maybe tied like a tie in a Winsor knot, I do not do boatneck as they gape horribly under a jacket of any kind on me, but that must not happen to everyone. Ginger has some good ideas.

Interesting! This seems extremely personal.

I have short hair, a long-ish (but not giraffe) neck, and a long face. Also a bit long from chin to bust.

I love a shirt collar -- but I don't often wear a button up shirt with a blazer -- I find it fussy. The collars compete or something? Not sure. It do it more with silk shirts, that have some softness.

Under jackets, my favourite necklines to wear include: crew, boat neck, envelope neck, turtleneck, jewel neck. I will also wear a V neck with a COLLARED jacket (like a jean jacket) but rarely with a blazer. I have very few V neck tops to begin with.

Some tops I wear under blazers below.

I love my boat neck tops, but don't use them under blazers or cardigans because the necklines just don't work well together, to my eye. Some of my crew necks work, but not all. I do better with a lower neckline under a topper -- that might be a v-neck, a scoop neck, or just a somewhat lower rounded neck (not a high crew neck). I think using a scarf or necklace to break up the crew neck's line might also work.

I like v or scoop necks more with blazers. But I'd think a higher neck could be ok with a chunky necklace or if it's patterned or textured I kinda struggle with toppers for my higher neck dresses

I rarely wear collars so under blazers I wear mostly plain tee/quasi-tee type tops. One has a vee, one has a crew, couple are scoops. But I do struggle in general matching jackets to tops....and the length of the top vs the jacket. I have started buying very simple tops to wear under jackets for this reason.

I like striped tops under jackets a lot. I do think the right necklace really helps. Maybe check out some of Angie's old pics as she wears jackets and has a longer neck.

Maybe it's the lack of neckline interest and/or bulk that a shirt collar gives. A blazer with just a plain tee may look too plain. A graphic tee adds interest that a solid doesn't have. Maybe try a statement necklace or a small scarf?

Are there guidelines for necklines that go best under blazers?

I typically wear my blazers with a button up shirt, but when I try a solid color top/blouse, it looks ‘off’.... Is it because my tops are either crew or boat neck? Would a v-neck work better? (I have a giraffe neck and long head, so I don’t own any v-necks)

Oddly, crew neck graphic tees under them seem fine.
