I can't see the texture very well either Shiny, but as far as I can tell it works for me, lots of interesting details going on, and the cream bag and pearls add some beautiful contrast too.

By the way, I didn't get a chance to reply to your thread with the sand-coloured cowl-neck sweater. I think it looked beautiful the second time around with the black. I was also thinking it might look lovely (it's such a gorgeous sweater) with a white button-down underneath (look at Carole's V-neck sweater thread, the white forms a barrier between your skin tone and the sandy shade).
I also love the idea of "filling up" the space between the lowish cowl-neck and your face with a colourful patterned scarf. And lastly, I would also try wearing a light-weight (short-sleeved or sleeveless if you prefer) turtleneck underneath, in a shade that flatters you (how about teal or purple or black?). I know you think turtlenecks aren't your best look, but combined with the cowl-neck collar you'll get a completely different look.

Okay, I'll just add that you always find such fun shows to attend;-)

It looks like a fab outfit with all the contrasts. The idea of putting navy with the black and adding bits of cream works for me. Thank you for showing us how it's done.

I can't see the velvet/suede texture contrast on my screen, unfortunately. It is an interesting mix to combine those materials with a shinier shirt as well; I am so curious how it would look in person. In any case, navy with black is a favorite of mine -- hooray for a great color combo!

Beautiful and very chic! It's a little hard for me to distinguish the colors and textures on my monitor, but I love navy and black together. The pearls and clutch sets off the darker colors perfectly too, really pretty!

I like it! On my screen, the button down looks black, but I'm imagining it as navy. I stil haven't tried the navy and black combo but you make it look good. I like the accents of white as well. Nicely styled!

Last night we attended this show:

http://www.boston.com/ae/theat....._own_show/

In a nutshell, it's loosely based on MacBeth. You are required to wear a mask and you walk around this old school in the dark. Kinda like combining a haunted house with a play. More details if you want in the article link above.

For this event, I wanted to wear something appropriate, and head-to-toe black made sense tome. But ultimately I added a navy, instead of black, blouse, as that looked more interesting to my eye:

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....010003.jpg

Blazer (AT) is velvet. Navy blouse is from ATO, with black lace cami underneath. Inc ponte knit pants, black suede boots. Added pearls and cream clutch for contrast.

The goal was to play with textures - not sure if I succeeded? I wonder if this would've been better with different boots? Is suede + velvet too much together?

P.s. this pic was taken after the show, so excuse my face - the mask rubbed off all my foundation and left me all ruddy-cheeked! And I was tired - lots of walking.
