Thank you for the suggestion. I have to be very careful because I am allergic to citrus products and bees' products. That eliminates many beauty products.

Sterling- I have fine hair too (quite wavy, but I straighten it somewhat). I don't find that it weighs mine down, but a little goes a long way. I use a lot of oil and conditioners on my hair though as it can get "big" with humidity if I don't.

It does feel pretty "waxy" or kind of sticky on your hands so you have to rub it between your palms to get it to melt a little. This is not a "strong" hold, it's more of a way to create more texture (for me at least) and to keep things tamed down. If you want more hold you may need to add bees wax and melt them together first, let them cool to harden, then use. I keep a few short glass jars on hand for this kind of thing.

I have multiple chemical sensitivities, and can't use hair products, so I'm going to try this! Thanks for the tip.

Good tip, thanks Texstyle! The product I used and liked reformulated a while ago and it's not really the same. Also, it probably isn't as wholesome or natural as some would prefer So I'm game to try shea butter.

This may be better in Off Topic, but it is hair fashion related so I wasn't sure.

Recently I tried a couple of "hair wax" or hair pomade products. I wasn't impressed with their ingredients or results so I kept looking.

Funny thing is that I "found" a great solution right in my own bathroom cabinet in the form of pure Shea Butter. I had purchased it a while back to make my own body lotion and forgot I had it! Anyway, after seeing how solid it felt and noticing the melting point wasn't too low (I had to really rub it vigorously in my hands to get it to melt) I decided to try it as a hair wax.

It works really well I think - well, as long as you don't want a super strong hold I should say. I just wanted something to help define waves and create a "piecey" kind of fringe since I'm growing some of mine out. I also wanted something to help defend against humidity related frizz and that didn't have a strong scent or drying ingredients (I use jojoba oil too, but that doesn't "hold" as well). The shea butter is very conditioning too - an added benefit when compared to expensive pomades that use shea butter and sometimes beeswax, silicone and other chemicals to do the same thing. If you don't like the scent of the shea butter, you can melt it with low heat and add other essential oil for scent.

That's it, just thought I'd share for anyone looking for a similar, natural, conditioning solution.
