We had an unexpected bonus at work last month, and I had a serious wardrobe hole around business clothes. I had realized at a professional conference last month that my work outfits pretty much all consist of a blend of business and casual - jeans and jacket or slacks and a moto jacket, e.g. I have a new role at work and now sometimes need to be all business and that is harder to pull off with what's in my closet.&nbsp;</p> <p>Thanks for all the great ideas and reassurance on the booties.&nbsp;</p> <p><b>Caro</b> - I'll definitely try the jacket with other bottoms - I have black slacks and skirts, and of course denim for less formal days (which are still most of my days!)</p> <p><b>Vix</b> - I never would have thought of warm colors with grey - you are a color genius! I'll have to play around and see what works, or post pictures for a color consult. &nbsp; I'm also thinking of adding some of my more distinctive jewelry to make the suits less boring - I have some nice modern chunky silver pieces, and some turquoise pieces that might work. Seems like between you you all stayed on the stylish-but-practical side -- not always easy with a shopping buddy!</p> <p>I actually think grey is a much more useful neutral than black, and that's coming from someone with a lot (surely not too much?!) black. Easier to make it seem warm-weather friendly.&nbsp;I'd just play with any knit tops or other blouses you have, including warm-toned ones, and see what appeals to you.</p> <p>As for how to make things more stylish, the standard "accessories" line seems to apply. She's an excellent fashion advisor and has serious shopping stamina. My main goal was to find a suit - I need one for work and don't have any in my closet. I found this nice four season (for the Pacific NW) suit and bought both the skirt and slacks. The skirt has a cute pleat in the back so it's not quite as boring as shown.&nbsp;I bought two tops to specifically go with the suit&nbsp;- the black and white and the blue Bellatrix. (I have other tops already that will also pair with it.)&nbsp;I also chose&nbsp;the Munro booties as I've been looking for a good business shoe that is comfortable enough for travel, being on my feet all day at conferences, etc.&nbsp;</p> <p>My wildcard were the Steve Madden boots - I just adore these and they fit well. I bought the Eileen Fisher knit pants to upgrade my NYDJ ponte pants which bag horribly. I'm hoping the EF ones are made of sterner stuff. FYI: I'm 5'6" and these are long enough I can wear with low heels - this model is clearly quite tall.&nbsp;</p> <p>The camel tunic is one of my favorite colors, and I love the mod feel to the stripes and shape. Those three pieces all happen to play well together, and with the&nbsp;the multi-color Bellatrix&nbsp;blouse I can consider this&nbsp;a mini-capsule. (The third blouse is just a wonderful color combination for me&nbsp;- works well with black and with an olive green knit skirt I have.) I have other pieces that will play well with these - a skirt that I think will work with the tunic, and slouchy sweaters that will look well with the pants.&nbsp;</p> <p>I also bought the Spanx diamond textured beige hose. It's hard for me to find textured pale hose in my size and these fit the bill so I bought two pairs&nbsp;I hope they don't run easily. And, finally, a pair of Zella pants. I have a pair of Zella capris and I love them, so these will replace an ancient and lower quality&nbsp;pair of black yoga pants.&nbsp;</p> <p>My sister and I had a ton of fun shopping together and she of course had some good finds too, including the gorgeous Brahmin espresso satchel - I think she got the last one in the store.&nbsp;</p> <p>What do you think? Any ideas on how to make these capsules even more versatile or stylish? Do you think I can carry off the Munro booties with a skirt?&nbsp; </p>
