And tomorrow (Friday) & Saturday are double point days. Order online. If something is marked down, even more than two weeks out, you can get an adjustment by calling the toll free number; just give them the order number.

What interesting information. This has been quite helpful in getting a bead on how things work. Thanks to all- thank you Angie and rae too. All of the different takes on wardrobe building are useful to think about.

I love NAS. It is about the only sales event that I pay much attention to,anywhere. Everything I have gotten, I love. I do buy some basics but I mostly do what others do, look for the fun pieces. I have done it both ways, online and in the store. Going to the store is a ton of fun, but not all items are in the stores and sizes will sell out in the stores. Doing it online is a fine way to participate though and will do it again in a heartbeat. I have a nordies card and always shop the very first day of the preview or early access. If there is something you like, you buy it, as it could sell out. The sale is that popular of an event. Nordies has free shipping and returns so there are no worries about something not working out.

NAS has been hit or miss for me depending on year, but I always find it inspiring and it's a good opportunity to think about the upcoming season and what I want to change about my wardrobe.

There are definitely some basics worth waiting for, like bras and tights, but I mostly consider NAS a great option for picking up fun stuff. And YLF is so much fun when we're in the throes of NAS madness (just wait for Angie's picks).

In that light, I'd go ahead and get those workhorse items/essentials as you see them now :)

As Angie already said, NAS is a sale of all new Fall merchandise. So if you see something you like now, don't wait for NAS thinking it will be marked down. All the NAS stuff is stored off the floor until the previews for card holders (our previews are the 10th-18th, not sure if that is all stores or just our location).

Whether or not something will be marked down as a regular sale item is a separate issue, but you do have a 2 week window for price adjustments.

At NAS, fresh new fall items go on sale as well as a few basics like Diana's Frye boots and my Le Mystere bra. Nordstrom card holders also get double points during that period. I understand that for the stuff that never goes on sale otherwise, you should place the order as close to midnight as possible before it runs out. Last year, I missed out on a few items.

This year, I think I will sign up for Early Access which means an appointment and visit to a special area of a b&m store the week before NAS opens to the public.

The NAS is not for everyone, and it varies each year. Sometimes it's incredible, and sometimes we do less well. It's HUGE with my clients, and we all look forward to it. It's like a fun break at the start of Summer, and a nod to a beautiful Autumn which is just round the corner.

I am not a sale shopper because I get bored of seeing old merchandise once it's on sale, and my size is seldom available. So I purchase ahead of time to get the best stuff, prevent my own boredom, and secure my size. The NAS is my favourite sale of the year because it's new season stuff and for my dominant season. I find that very exciting!!! My goal is to cherry pick the better end items and come home with a few treasures. I never over do it. But I REALLY enjoy this sale. You have to find its strength, which changes each year.

To answer your question, unfrumped. A good piece is a good piece. Buy what you have in mind now and compare later.

I think I've had experience with NAS for 2 or 3 years now. I buy everything online (no store nearby). Based on the past experience, I do not buy much at NAS since I will often have an opportunity to buy the same items later at a sale price again (and will have a better idea of my fall wardrobe needs).

Most items at NAS are 30-40% off. The same items (if re-stocked) may go on sale at 50-60% off later (but many may be out of stock). I have also seen things show up in stock over the course of NAS.

Since Nordstrom has free shipping and returns and price adjustments, I think either strategy is low risk. I am not sure if NAS items are often available before the sale or if the NAS only involves new arrivals. In any case, my strategy with Nordstrom is to identify things I like or would like to try and add them (in all the sizes I might need) to the wishlist on the Nordstrom website. I then order them (either full price or on sale) and keep them on the wishlist for a couple of weeks. If the price goes down and the item is still available, I can get a price adjustment using web chat with customer service. If something is out of stock and then restocked, it is easy to see by checking the wish list.

To be honest I am not a big NAS shopper. I'm another one who finds it hard to get excited about things I can't wear for months. Last year I only bought one thing, and it was the frye boots that I wanted for a long time, in a style and color that never goes on sale otherwise. So I'd say I like it for things like basics and investment items, but for trendier things I prefer to wait. Just my shopping style I guess. I really like browsing it though as a look into new trends and styles even though I may not buy much.

Although... On the other hand, nordies has such a good return policy that if you buy something and fall out of love with it before fall, you can always send it back... So it's pretty low risk!

I have never NASsed...but I am wondering if Nordstrom does that price thing where is something goes on sale within a certain time after you buy it, if they will adjust the price ?

Also, the great thing about Nordstrom, is that you can return something any time. So maybe get it now and if it goes on sale, return the one that is not on sale.

Also, any NAS veterans have tips for those of us without a Nordies in their state? I will have to doit all online.

I did just sign up for a Nordies card though

I have never experienced an NAS because I have a hard time getting my head around fall and winter when we are FINALLY getting some nice summer weather at that time. It feels like cheating to not appreciate the weather as it is happening! I have tried buying items before the seasons actually happen and those items tend to become orphans and then they are culled during a purge because I had no idea what items would be my workhorses 2 or 3 months from the time of purchase. So I guess in theory, I would LOVE to shop NAS but emotionally I am unable to do it. So if someone has some strategy for grabbing those great deals before the wearing season actually begins, I'd love to hear it! Unfrumped...I'm with you. I guess I just do not know how to do NAS!

unfrumped on "NAS strategies: Wait for it?"

Does the NAS sale encompass such a high % of items in stock, so that one would not buy anything now, or is the strategy more selective, to use it for “wants” or peripheral items?

I seemed to have lost out on a number of items this year due to selling out in my size. Of course, I never tried some of said items, so they might have been a bust. But when I'm looking at items now from time to time, I think, if it might be really good, I'd best try it now or it may be gone. This primarily for items I've had trouble finding so far but that I think might really fix a wardrobe hole or problem.

if I find an item “not too long” before NAS that has potential as a wardrobe essential/workhorse, would you order it and bear the temptation bo buy at full price ? and then use NAS as added value for other items? Or try to close your eyes until NAS?

I know there’s no one answer, because it overlaps discussions we've had on price points, sales, buy what you love and all that, and it's quite person-specific, but thought I’d see what various strategies NAS veterans have used to find the sweet spot between value vs. missing the occasional elusive great item that may sell out. I also didn't know if items tend to be re-stocked or stocked up for NAS and how intensive a shopper you need to be. I'm not very good at stalking day and night or being a "cyber Monday" type of shopper where you have to pounce within 24 hours to get a deal.

So answers don't have to be politically correct--I'm interested in various approaches.
