Och, long day and just getting back; thanks to all for weighing in and I can make some more specific responses tomorrow.
I appreciate the feedback and enabling me that these are very nice booties! They do look so well made. I want to wear them, so will try some of my remaining pants and skirts and see if overall they work with enough, so's I'm not just having a one-or 2 outfit deal; I'm trying to be stern with myself about that! Now I've opened up the door to Paul Green footwear, I may be in trouble!
I seem to have more pant-leg misbehavior than some. Since there are a lot of references to skinnies, I wonder if denim is less troublesome, or more clingy/stretchy over boot, whereas I am wearing trouser fabrics-tropical wool or poly-rayon blends, that drape and so aren't stretched or scrunched over the boot shaft. Hmmm.

I think the booties look good with skirts/dresses when the hem is above the knee or right at the knee. I also think you should be able to wear these with any kind of pant generally speaking, if not the one pair of straight legs.

Now this is fascinating and shows how different we all are. Like Lisa, I live in a cold climate -- and I'm the opposite in my skirt/ dress/ bootie habits. I wear skirts/ dresses in summer but much less often in winter. And I also wear my BFs much less in winter! Mainly because I love them best rolled, and rolling exposes skin I can't expose in the chill.

I wear my booties with skinnies all the time. I either pull the pant leg over the top of the bootie, or I roll it a little. Usually I just pull it over. Doesn't present a problem and generally stays put on me.

But your issue is not jeans, which might work fine. Your issue is trousers. I am trying to think on this one. I don't have very many dress trousers but they all seem to work just fine with my booties. I don't know if it is because the booties are quite snug at the ankle, or what? I have one pair of wide legs (okay-- that is no issue); two pairs of slouchy tapered trousers (haven't had a problem); and one moto trouser (a skinny, essentially).

My booties include:

Stuart Weitzman chelsea boot
Zara ink blue neoprene top bootie
Sam Edelman Petty (these actually seem most problematic -- they are a bit shorter and the trouser hems can catch on them at times.)
Munro Robyn (with the V in front)

The only ones that give me grief are the Report Dicker lookalikes. They're too wide at the top unless I cuff or stuff them. Which only really works for jeans.

Back to you. I LOVE those booties, love them on you, and think you should keep them if they are comfortable. You make me truly want a pair, even more than I already wanted a pair.

Unfrumped, I wear all my booties with skinnies and straight legs. No wide hems needed.

It's hard to judge from these photos whether they work with the dresses, but the booties look splendid on your feet. xo

I hear you - and can only offer two comments: I end up not wearing pants in the winter much at all for that very reason: booties don't really work with them and I'm constantly adjusting the pant leg after sitting down/getting up. Too much fussing - so no traditional pants in true winter for me. I'll wear them as late into the season as I can with pumps, then go for skirts , dress and jeans for the winter. Boyfriends work well with booties.

And as far as the wider ankle opening goes - with skirts and dresses, I usually wear a scrunched to add some texture and to fill in any space. Club Monaco has great knee hi's specifically for this purpose. I don't always match them to the tights - a toned in colour is fun to do.

Oh--and I have considered adding short socks in similar situations that would act to fill in the gap visually with (for instance) a little bit of scrunched black sock cuff at the top of the boot. That would only work on colder days though I think.

I think they look great with tights and skirts- does seem to be too much gape at the ankle. I agree with pants, they need to be able to fall over the bootie and the shootie will work better with the straight legs pants.

Hmm...well, I can't speak to the wider pants as I avoid them--but with bootlets I've been wearing skinny jeans or trousers, sometimes rolled at the bottom to meet with the tops of the boots.

I think these look really good on you though and the flowerpotting is really not enough to worry about.

I got these boots as well, and so far had only got into the plan of wearing them with skinny jeans. But I do like them with your skirts and the dark hose (possibly other colors might accentuate any flower potting) so I may try this as well.

This post is combining NAS option with a
diatribe on PPW’s (perfect pant widths) and how to match up footwear.

Here
is another NAS item I really like, but am debating just on the basis of where
my boot capsule should be heading, in
case I need to look in a different direction.

These are the Paul Green’s in dark gray
suede. I swore I was not going to get even 2” heels because I need some true flat booties (meaning only 1/2-1") but they looked great to
try. They fit very well.

One problem is, I am having to realize that
typical ankle boots require a wide-ish or bootcut leg pant. I picked this color
to go with both black and with some gray stripe and check pants, but the gray
ones are more straight and they won’t fall back over the boot when moving
about. But, these boots do look good with about 5 pair of either AT trouser pants (the
original wider leg that’s about a 20” hem opening) and bootcut or slight boot cut trousers.

I’ve shown them here with tights so you can
see them better and the amount of ankle gap (should have used nude hose) so as to ask, could
these be worn like this as well? There is still some flower-pot effect
though less than some, so I wondered about that plus the height—are these
pants-only boots, and for a dress one would need a lower bootie or more intentional
mid-calf or tall along with closer fit.

I ask because I have quite a few
dress/skirt outfits that I’m wearing
with dark gray, as opposed to black, tights for a softer look (the dress or
skirt may be gray or a print with gray) so I could see wearing gray booties of
some sort. If these worked for that, that would substantially increase the # of
times I would wear during fall and winter and into early spring and mitigate the pant width limitations.

On to the essay on PPW’s and footwear. I
already knew that the sort of straight-not-slim trousers were going to create some issues. This kind of
straight trouser works well for me as it’s less frumpy-prone than the wider
leg. However, that pants width will not
slide over most typical ankle boots/booties.

I am figuring for those I will need to be
very fitted at the low calf, which is kind of a HEWI already, or possibly a
lace-up style to get that fit, and maybe even a taller boot shaft that I used
to think. Alternatively, the footwear needs to have no shaft to speak of , so a
shootie. I got my Born shootie for this purpose but am having trouble finding
something lower or more refined or both. That’s because I don’t do well with a
narrow shoe heel (meaning “heels” not fit of my heel) which is often part of
the shootie look. Oxfords are a problem because there’s too
much “stuff’ on top of the foot, and even loafers may give a problem (the
narrower the pant hem, the more a loafer will work).

So, if
you’ve made it this far, feel free to give feedback on the above booties
in general and with skirts, and any observations or success you’ve had with
finding footwear for these not-wide, not skinny pants.
