Probably about 75% here.

I needed summer sandals - ordered four from Amazon, kept one and returned the rest.

With NAS, I must have ordered at least 20 items, and I'll probably keep about five.

I no longer shop at places that want to run your driver's license to make returns in store (Ann Taylor, I'm looking at you).

I order and return A LOT. I was just talking about this with a SA at Nordstrom Rack while making $900 worth of returns. She said the size of my order was NOTHING compared to what other people bring in. She said it's not unusual at all.

I return plenty. Sometimes it's not just knowing what size will fit me. I also return things that fit if I don't feel they flatter as well. I have long considered it to be an at home fitting room. I would rather return if it doesn't make me feel good.

You are not alone. It comes with the online shopping territory. After a while you get to know sizing in your frequent brands and that gets easier. It's the fabrication that is a wildcard for me. It has to have good hand feel, as well as fit. Also, I tire of B&M try-on quickly...get hot and grumpy, so online gives me comfort AND time for rational consideration.

I have very similar shopping habits- do almost all of my ordering online and end up returning 75-85% because I use my home as my dressing room. Part of it is time- I can shop online in my limited free time, and then try a bunch of things all at once, and part of it is selection- I'm cusp sized, and my weight/size can fluctuate a bit, so I usually end up ordering multiple sizes, sometimes in misses and plus ranges, and then returning both the sizes that weren't correct, and the styles that just didn't work (or weren't worth the price).
Most of my ordering is from nordstrom for that reason.

I got fired by Sierra Trading Post this spring. They sent me an email and told me my return rate was over 60 percent. I used to buy a lot of miscellaneous stuff from them. We have an outlet store here and I could return things directly to the store. I might order something in two sizes and keep the one that fit. I had to do it because the store stocked very little of their inventory.

I say they fired me. Actually, they stopped sending me special discount coupons that made things ridiculously inexpensive. For example, I bought a beautiful Woolrich jacket for $35. No more, though.

I return probably 80-85% of what I order, and almost everything I order is from Nordstrom. I often order in two sizes because I am between a PXS and PS, so that definitely ups the return to 50%. If I take a chance and order a dress in a regular size for the length, I lower my expectations because it may not fit right anywhere else. And then there's the online color that may not be the same IRL, and the fabric may not be up to par. . . I also order shoes online, and I have super fussy feet. Finally, a garment may be cut slightly differently from one color to another.

I have no qualms about making returns. I refuse to settle. Yes, I still make mistakes about what I keep, but if I return 90% it is because I have grown discerning.

Oh, and yesterday I ordered eight (8!!!) pairs of black ponte pants, four styles in two sizes. Obviously (or maybe not!), I only need one pair, so seven out of eight will be going back. Or maybe even all eight pairs if it turns out that I'm not thrilled with any of them.

It depends on how much and which things are speaking to me. This year I snagged lots of outerwear, more than I need, knowing I'll return lots. I'm hoping for less than 50% to stick so I can order more later in the sale when the wiw and reviews start rolling in.

I return a LOT of what I order online partly because I'm doing a lot of experimentation with new styles. I need petites in most tops and jackets and the selection is much bigger online as more retail stores discontinue them. I also find shoe selection to my taste is very small in stores and much bigger online. I actually EXPECT to return items from almost every order which makes it easier for me to order multiple sizes etc.

Returns are a part of shopping and even more of online shopping.
I agree with Suz, it's better to return than to get stuck with something that does not work for you.
Once you know what brands and what styles work for you it becomes generally easier to be more successful with your online shopping but there will always be returns.

I confess that I do return a lot of what I order, probably a similar percentage as you. I think of it like bringing items in the dressing room -- most won't work, but how will you know unless you try? With free shipping and free returns, I feel that stores like Nordstrom enable this practice, so I try not to feel too guilty about it.

This will vary depending on how experienced you are at the game. If you take your measurements and know them, it helps a lot. Also, if you are curious about the fit of a particular item, you can ask forum members who may own it or have tried it. I also read reviews and look carefully for information about the reviewer's body type. (Just because one person says it is going to be tight in the shoulders doesn't mean it will be - unless your shoulders are like that person's.)

I do a ton of online shopping because options are poor for me in my town. I'm careful up front because returns are not straightforward for me. (I live in Canada and technically we don't have online shopping from Nordstrom's here...it just happens that I have a card from the US.)

Anyway, despite all precautions, I returned a lot of the stuff I ordered at NAS last year. Sometimes it's a fit issue, and sometimes it's just about how it works out with your other items. It's normal to make returns. Better to return it than to keep it and not wear it!

This depends. I order about 95% of my clothes, my daughters' clothes and my husbands online.

DH returns less than 10% of what I buy. He wears tees and jeans almost exclusively. I know his size by brand, and I find men's jeans waaay easier to buy than women's.

Dd1 and Dd2 I return about half the shoes I buy them, but less than 10% of the clothes. Shoes are so hard. For example, I bought her 3 pairs of stride rites, all the same size. Two fit, the third had to be exchanged for a full size down! When I buy DDs clothes, i tend to buy a little large for her to fit later in the season. I also stick to a handful of brands.

For me, I return at least 50% of my shoes. Sometimes an exchange sometimes just a return. I can't judge comfort until I try them on, but I stick to comfort brands. On clothes, it depends where I'm buying from. Talbots is a favorite for work clothes and their sizing is consistent. I return less than 20% of what I buy there and usually because I don't like it. Ann Taylor used to be a favorite, but the last few seasons we've not clicked.

Nordies for me depends on the brand. Certain brands run pretty consistent and I have few returns. Others, like Vince, have varied widely just on size not to mention quality. If I am not ready to return, I don't shop Nordies.

I do most of my shopping online. I tend to buy only what I love, and seldom purchase multiples. If a size is off I will order another in the up or down as needed and then return the one that doesn't fit well. Shoes, for example, or pants fall into this group. I return perhaps 5% of what I buy.

Due to limited choices where I live, I do a lot of online shopping. I hardly ever return anything (not counting my bra buying recently). I tend to stick to brands that have consistent sizing, and I know how the fit will be when I am ordering.
