Does anyone else love the Joes jeans double knit skinny pants on page 45? Do they cross into the no no boundary of leggings NOT being pants? They look fantastic tucked into those Vera Wang boots. Even though Vera Wang is 60 and could definately pull off that look, I'm not so sure I could do it.

I'll definitely take a look at the leather jackets. Last year I tried a whole bunch of biker jackets and the big collars don't seem to work for me at all (like the Kenna T jacket). I think I need something more streamlined and less overwhelming.

I'm looking at suits and I'm getting an eye twitch - so many good investment pieces, but I'm really not in the mood to deal with it now. Heh.

Shiny and Marianne, I feel the same way - I'm not overwhelmed because YLF has prepared me for these trends. I'm also seeing a subtle variation on what was *new* last year.

Does anyone here have experience with resin band watches? I'm specifically wondering how the resin band is going to wear? Is the white band going to stain from daily wear?

Shiny - yes! That's what I meant, lots of basic investment pieces, which is great. Too bad I am out of job! I also agree about being better prepared this year thanks to YLF. I feel like I understand all the presented trends very well :)

I admit, I fast forwarded through most shoes and watches, because I am not in the market.

Hmm, I am very curious to see the catalog now! Laura65 and I just went for our appointments tonight; we will have a full report tomorrow (with photos!) but we thought the shoes were a huge disappointment. There was nothing we wanted to try at all!

I wonder if it is different from store to store; if so, I think it will behoove us to try a different Nordie's. We did really well in the clothes and coats, though!

Marianne, I don't think you are clueless. I got a similar impression. I responded first to color, and it seemed we've seen these colors before: cobalt, purple, yellow, gray and more gray. Shape: there are some different shapes, but most are subtle evolution on trends we've already seen - more leggings, more volume on top/skinny on bottom, more boyfriend jackets/vests/shirts.

I am excited though because I don't have to get used to some totally new style or color I hadn't considered already. Does that make sense? YLF is good because all of this is something we've had time to contemplate - and now there are more available. I am happy to see so many leather jacket options for example!!! And white watches...

What is in the catalog seems to include a lot of good, classic investment pieces too, which is nice...

There are some trendy shoes that are sticking in my head since I looked at the catalog... I don't know how you'd describe them... but they seemed different...

Angie, so I am clueless! I am not sure why I had that impression - maybe nothing seemed quite new or over the top. I'll study it some more and hopefully get the paper copy soon. I am not really in a position to buy much, but I *might* use it as an opportunity to upgrade my bag.

Lesley: Those Vera Wang Lavender Chantel biker boots are fierce! I also love the Kenna T jacket on page 3 of the catalog. Also fierce: the Rag and Bone boyfriend vest, the Cara 54-strand necklace on page 44, and the Betsey Johnson ruffled satchel on page 10. Very tempting indeed. I think I'll make an appt. for this coming weekend...

Shiny, there will be MUCH more, but it’s store specific. Online NAS is a must too because the selections are once again different. Last year’s petite area was outstanding.

I thought that many offerings are kinda "safer" and more traditional. Did anyone get that vibe? Maybe that's how they deal with recession.
For myself, I saw a couple of bags with cross-body straps that I liked but I'd have to see them in person. Same for boots. A couple of dresses that had potential, will keep an eye on those. I like the MK dress too, except for the color I like the long pewter anorak, but I don't really need one.
Many leather jackets... those pages are lost on me because I never see myself in leather. Leggings as pants...hmm.
Men's suit is our main focus - looks like there are a few.
(JJ, thank you for posting. Any news on the job front?)

Shiny - were the gray boots the suede ones with the tassel? I'm thinking of trying those on for sure. My priorities are a pair of low heeled boots (to wear with a casual dress), maybe a dress and/or a pair of jeans. I'm not even sure if I can swing that with my very limited budget! But, it will be worth checking out. I liked the Michael Kors shift dress but not the color. I would like to try to find some kind of sweater dress/shift dress that I can layer with in the fall.

Thanks for the tip, Juli! I have my appt scheduled for Wednesday night. I just went through the online catalog - there are quite a few items I am interested in. Maybe I will luck out and finally find a black leather jacket!

Question for Angie - is it only the items in the catalog, or will there be more? I ask because I'm not seeing the boots I am looking for ....

On my priority list (in order):

1) Leather jacket - probably black. I would go with gray or purple or cream, but my first priority is one that fits well, so that is the limiting factor! I see lots of promising options in the catalog....

2) Chestnut boots - preferably flat but I'll take one with a heel too. The problem with this is that most of the boots I see are for really tall people with wide calves. I like the gray ones in the catalog, but no more suede for me... I do see a pair of studded booties that are absolutely adorable (and a total splurge)..

3) Purse - but I'm not seeing any in the catalog that float my boat. Except maybe the one purple one with silver hardware...

4) White watch!! - this is on my list for my bday in August; I am seeing LOTS of possibilities in the catalog!!!

5) Pencil skirts. Not sure what color, but I'm open....

6) Dresses - I see a few I would like to try on.

7) Vests - I'm really intrigued by the "boyfriend vest" idea. I recently tried one on, at Filene's basement - it was way too long for me. But the one in the NAS catalog is cute... that seems like something you could add to be "on trend" this fall, no?

Ooooh.... and the gray suit on page 23, it even comes in petite... I am trying that on for sure!!! I don't necessarily *need* a suit... but if it fits and flatters, I'm totally there...

.... and the topper on the very next page, is cute... the pattern may be overwhelming for me, but I would try it on... who knows...

I would say leggings and bras, but it seems like you can get these on sale anytime. Blouses are always high on my list, but there's nothing I see that makes me go Wow.

Okay I would be in heaven if I scored just two of the above, say the perfect leather jacket, and a white watch...

It does seem to me that a lot of the colors are very 2008. I don't see any colors that really make me go "oh, that is new and fresh and different." BUT, I do see lots of boyfriend tops and lots and lots of leggings.... volume on top, leggings below... so maybe Fall 2009 is all about the shape?

Well...the SW booties that I tried on had more of a heel than you would do, truth be told. However, I could see you possibly giving a thumbs up for the motorcycle boots.

Should I just go for clothing, and circle back to the shoes later? Or should I wait and try to make the shoe thing happen first, then deal with clothing? It's so hot here, that it's hard to think about F/W. I would just rather get a deal on something that I'm going to get eventually. LMKWYT.

Ohhh. I’m cursing for you, Lesley. @$%$#! Is there no way you can pad up a medium width boot to fit those pretty little narrow feet? There must be a way!

I’m going to the NAS preview with Sandy on Wednesday 8th and will be able to offer my 2 cents about hot items later that week. I’ll blog about it too. I am going to be ALL over the SW and VW boots *if* they are comfortable. I’m just so curious what’s on offer this year in particular – in the light of the recession.

Okay...I seriously need a hug. My first pass went pretty crappy. Boo!

I focused on shoes, since that is my biggest fit challenge. My goal was to score 2-3 pairs of shoes on sale for the upcoming season, then build outfits "from the ground up." Specifically, I was thinking a boot, a heel, and a pair of flats.

My shoe guy was not his usual perky self, but he had pulled some shoes for me to try. There were only a couple that I remotely liked. Everything else looked rather matronly or too corporate. I really wanted fun/edgy. I totally crapped out. I seriously think that I'm a candidate for foot augmentation. This sucks!!!

Meanwhile, there was a stylist in the shoe dept. shopping for a client. And wouldn't ya know it...she had the very line-up of shoes that I envisioned for myself. She even got an extra pair for herself of these killer motorcycle boots (Vera Wang...something-somethings)!!! WHAAAT?!?! We became instant BFFs and she even tried to get in the act to help my cause, but no luck. I'm soooo bummed. My shoe guy is gonna keep looking for me, and I'm gonna check online to see if some of the styles that got away actually come in narrow, but didn't get sent to the store.

So...I left the shoe dept. with not much else to do, since I was really hoping to score some early deals and get the worst part over with. Next, I headed up to TBD to look for premium denim. I really want a new pair of skinnies for Fall. I tried these really cute WR skinnies in black. I also tried on some COH Avas, which are a straight leg, but weren't part of the sale. I took the Avas home, and agreed to set another appt. with my girl in TBD to look at more clothes since I had no plan and ran out of time (had a personal training session). I'm debating on whether or not to keep the Avas. I could see the WRs being my fall/winter go-to jeans. I'm thinking that I'll go back this week, but I think I need therapy from today's disappointment in shoes.

Okay...I feel better now that I got that out. *wipes nose on sleeve*
