Suz-Thanks! This process has been really helpful, but taking me a long time because I didn't shop with a solid plan. I'm willing to expand on capsules that really need the growth (my business capsule is one of these), but for others I need to be careful. I've made the mistake in the past of owning so many toppers I can't enjoy them all in a given season!

Sveta-Thanks! I think the BF jeans are going to become a workhorse item. And great observation about the printed bomber. Maybe one bomber is enough to freshen up my wardrobe, too many and I'll get tired of them fast.

Kellygirl-Thanks! I'm on the fence with the printed bomber because it seems limited. So far I only seem to pair it with blue jeans, and a black or grey t-shirt. It's too much pattern for the camo jeans and doesn't work with my cobalt jeans or the new metallic grey one's. I'm wondering if I should keep such a limited remixing item.

Lyn D-Thanks! I think the bombers are great cardigan and blazer replacements.

ManidipaM and Diane G-Thanks! I have to really think about this printed bomber. It may make more sense to wait out for a different one.

Cobaltblue-Thanks! The BF jeans are already a favorite purchase this year.

Makrame-Thanks! The bombers are cardigan replacements (or at least that's my idea). Both I would wear indoors. I need heavier outerwear than these once our winter season comes. And in the summer I'm always cold in the a/c, so items that layer are really key for my wardrobe.

Unfrumped-Thanks! I've been learning a lot from these posts, I'm happy to hear others are too! I'm on the fence with the printed bomber, it's a fun piece, but not super versatile in my closet.

Donnat-Thanks! I am happy to hear the threads are helpful, they take me a while to set them up.

Clearlyclaire-I can return the bomber even though I wore it? It's in fine shape, I only wore it twice, but it's not remixing as easy as I hoped it would. I'm on the fence with keeping it or not. And what a great idea to purge and leave room for new items. I don't think I've ever done that!

I think the BF jeans are so great on you! They will really shift your style. I love the bombers too, but do you need both? I know you didn't ask for advice but don't forget you can return anything to Nordstrom at any time, worn or not. If you're having second thoughts about any of this stuff, return it! I think you're a pretty good Nordie's customer! If you decide to cull the older items and return a few of the new purchases, you'll have a like a "Secret Closet Credit" where you're free to fill those holes at a future date, without culling any thing more. Heh.

I am watching your threads with keen interest. I feel like the student, I love the second bomber, but what Sveta said has so much validity. I feel in a quandary and it's not even my wardrobe! Love your new purchases.

I think I like the jacquard bomber a bit more than the white one--maybe because it has more of the easy bomber fit than the knitted sleeve.
Your posts have been very interesting and inspiring to keep thinking of why to get something--is it to replace, fill a hole, try a new style, or what.

This is such an interesting process! I enjoyed your other posts in this series, too.

I am wondering about the practicality of the bombers as cardigan replacements. Would you wear the bombers indoors? Would they be too hot? Are the two bombers different weight/suitable for different temps?

That watercolor top is beautiful, and the jeans look great on you.

I like your thought process and Suz makes a valid point about not replacing literally the same items. I like that you're finding cardigan replacements. That's something I need to do too.
I love the bomber in #1. And perhaps I agree with Sveta and Mani about maybe not needing the second one and waiting for something else? I absolutely love the BF jeans on you and the print on the watercolour top is fab.

Hmmm. I was going to say not everything has to work with *every* last thing in a non-ideal world----as long as they work with at least several somethings. But if this is not the case with bomber the second (jacquard), I would seriously consider Sveta's advice.

I am really enjoying your thread and that of others re. one-in-one-out!
Sometimes though we need to fill holes or extend capsules that are most worn too. If you can't make the decision you can always wear both for a while and later purge the oldie or not.
The bomber jackets feel so fresh after years of cardigans as toppers, for sure!

I love the bombers. I think they are a great cardigan replacement--more modern and fun. It's kind of a shame they don't work with all of the bottoms though--although you have no shortage of blazers that will probably work too. The jacquard one is so pretty with your hair color. It seems like it will work with black bottoms/skirts/dresses too.

Yeah, I have a looser interpretation as well e.g. top replaces a top - can be winter sweater replaces a shell for all I care. In any case don't get too hang up on this rule, Lisa. If you follow it 75% of the time it is good enough I think.
Now I really LOVE BF jeans for you and cannot believe this is your first pair. I find them much more flattering for you than the skinnies and this new silhouette for you should be fun as well. I predict you will have a lot of fun with this purchase (I know I did).

Also I am going to be a spanner: do you need both bombers? They are not similar in color but still a bomber is a bomber... I would keep the one you like better and which is easier to style and leave room for another fun piece down the road...:-)

I find this process fascinating. The whole idea of one-in and one-out is not as simple as it may seem. For myself, where I'm doing it, I'm allowing myself to interpret it a bit loosely. So in some cases a dress will replace a dress. But in others, a pair of boots might replace a pair of unworn jeans, giving me one fewer jeans and one more piece of footwear. I am not sure if that makes sense (obviously, a person can only go so far with this type of thing) but for now that's how I am interpreting it.

I hope you find ways to wear the new items and they don't end up orphaned.

It would be interesting to spend some time trying to figure out what you'd need to add to make them work.

Re the watercolour top: I think that is more a summery piece and you can let yourself off the hook if it isn't a clear replacement for something else.

Hi,

I am continuing my closet purging from NAS.

Here are the first 3 posts.

Round One was here.
Round Two was here.
Round Three was here.

The first three rounds were fairly easy, but now it is getting harder.

#1-White Bomber AND #2-Watercolor Top AND #3-Boyfriend jeans
Three new NAS items.
Actually the BF jeans are not NAS but were purchased at the same time.

#4-Cardigan AND Striped Top AND Bootcut Jeans
Continuing the trend to replace cardigans with another topper, the bomber jacket replaces this cardigan. The boyfriend jeans are a nice twist from my usual bootcut jeans. I still have two other pairs of bootcut jeans so I don't mind downgrading this pair to gear use.

Now the first problem item. The watercolor top was an
impulse purchase and does not seamlessly replace the striped top. I don't
think I can wear it with the bomber. And it's not matching my other new
bottoms from NAS. But I've already worn it so now it stays. For a bit of irony, the striped top was always a challenge to layer too. The neckline never worked well with my blazers.

#5-Jacquard Print Bomber

New NAS item.

#6-Striped Sweater

Another non direct replacement here. The striped sweater never remixed well with
my green jeans which was why I purchased it. It ended up being a one outfit top, and only worked with my blue jeans. Another bit of irony, the bomber
jacket doesn’t appear to remix too easily with my new jeans either. It only seems to work with my boyfriend jeans, not the metallic grey skinnies nor the camo print one’s.

One final post with a recap coming up!
