Beth, Sparky is right! You can get a Nordies card anytime, and you have to pay with it during pre-selection. You can use a Nordstrom debit card too... and they just changed it so there is no credit check!

Marianna, thanks for the info. I think life is much easier when everyone follows the rules the same way, so I'm all for this. :)

Beth, I'm pretty sure you can open up a Nordies card at the time of your preselection appointment. Just call to set up a preselection appt. and tell them you want to open a Nordie's card at the same time and see what they say. Of course if you have time to open one before your appointment, go for it. I believe you do need to pay for preselection items with the Nordie's card, especially based on Marianna's comment.

ETA: MNSara, yup, that's the big news for this year's preselection, taking in-stock items home! I think Marianna mentioned quite a while ago that there was a big change coming for this year's NAS preselection that would make many people very happy. It's great to see Nordie's continually tweaking the process to make it a better experience for us.

There you go - Marianna, a sales assistant at Nordies, has spoken :)

Beth, not at all. Get a Nordies card now.

Two questions: is it too late to get a card and qualify for preselection? And two, must you use that card to pay?

FYI, this year the registers are programmed to ONLY accept Nordstrom Cards during the preselection period. You cannot use any other card, no exceptions.

Ooh, Sparky! Take it home right away? That sounds wonderful -. I remember people being upset that they couldn't get what they preselected. . .then needing to wait for returns to start trickling in. . .

Attn: Mall of America Nordstrom shoppers -- anyone have an SA to recommend? The one I preselected with last year was lovely, but not compatible with my style (or style direction, or whatever. . . )

AG, in the past when someone preselected, you were reserving the items and either picked them up in person or the items were mailed to your home once the sale officially started (sometimes though you didn't get the item with this system). This year the big news is that if the item is in stock in the store where you are preselecting, you get to take it home with you right then and there.

Thanks for the *excellent* summary, Sparky - Anne! I remember you scoring killer stuff last year and that we are SW boot twins :)

Una, you cannot preselect online. You have to make an app with a sales assistant.

Is the preselecting online or in the store? And does that basically mean you're buying the stuff or reserving it for when the sale starts?

I'm feeling a little Gilt-y anxiety here.

Angie has a TON of great posts on NAS from past years. I learned so much from reading them. She also will blog about her NAS picks, so you will get her great expertise on specific items to check out at the sale. Here are a few past posts:

http://youlookfab.com/2010/07/.....sary-sale/

http://youlookfab.com/2009/07/.....ider-tips/

http://youlookfab.com/2010/07/.....most-here/

Every Nordstrom store is different in terms of how they follow the rules of who is allowed to preselect before the sale's official July 15 start date ~ and even within a store, different SAs interpret the rules differently. It used to be that you needed to be a level 2 Nordstrom cardholder to do that, but even then some stores allowed people who didn't have a card to do the presale and others allowed it even if you weren't a level 2. I think this year they've changed it officially that any Nordstrom cardholder can make a presale appointment, regardless of level. The Seattle flagship store, though, follows the preselection rules to the letter.

Last year was my first NAS, and I had a blast. I preselected TWICE (I am a cardholder) and found it a wonderful & efficient way to overhaul my wardrobe. There were some cases where a few items on sale during NAS sold out, then well after the sale were restocked and eventually offered at a lower sale price than the NAS price. Some YLFers followed up with Nordstrom about it and were credited the difference ~ yet another example of Nordie's stellar service. As far as I'm concerned, price variations occur everywhere and we just have to decide if an item's price is worth it to us at the time.

I already have my presale appointment set up for July 5. I can't wait!

Yellowgirl, this is my favourite sale of the year. Its when you buy the good stuff (higher price points) at 40% off - and the prices are marked down for two weeks only. It's mostly Autumn and Winter merchandise, but there is lightweight stuff too.

If you have a Nordies card, you can preselect between the 5th and the 12th July. I highly recommend this process. I will be pre-selectling with clients all through that week. I will also post several lists of top picks as the sale breaks on the 15th July.

I'm also saying, that there is no way you can preselect in Seattle without a Nordies Card. They are *very* strict here. Perhaps sales staff are not as strict in other states, but the head office is in Seattle and so is the flagship, and the flagship gets everything. I guess they have to keep things strict!

I'm also excited about NAS this year, but I'm wondering whether to pounce or wait it out. I found YLF about the time of last year's NAS. I fell in love with the Kenneth Cole silk tunic top that several YLFers posted pics of. By the time I acted on my urge to purchase, the sale was over. I restrained myself from buying it at full price, and it soon went on sale again, when I happily bought it for (I think) less than the NAS price. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with NAS items being priced even lower a short time after the sale?

no, you do not need to have a nordies card, and yes, it is all new fall merchandise that they mark down for the sale, and then after the sale it goes up to regular price.

I'm a total newbie to the NAS - and I'm excited to shop it this year. How does it work? Do I have to have a Nordie's credit card to take advantage of it or is it open to all? Is it strictly new fall merchandise that will be marked down or things that are currently on the website? Thanks in advance!
