I'm headed to a store today that has the R&B the next size up (I used the Pick Up in Store feature). I'm going to see if that helps with the bunching at the shoulders. If not, off it goes. It's time to get tough about these things, no matter how much I may want it to work!

I'm with Angie. I think the Rag and Bone is too long in sleeves and also appears to bunch strangely at the shoulder which may be sleeve length plus angle of your arm to take photo or may suggest the stance is wrong for you. It's a high stance and looks a bit off on your frame to me.

I'm back.

Posted about the ORIGINAL set of photos, Jules. The Rag & Bone is far too long in the sleeves.

Go with the VB striped moto and the suede Lafayette jacket.

The VB sleeves CAN be altered despite the zippers. It just costs a little more.

Angie, I'm thrilled to be able to get your advice, but unfortunately, it's left me confused! You see, I posted two sets of photos (one when I first posted and another one styled -- about halfway down), with different #1s and #3s. Not only that, consensus from forum members changed a bunch before and after the styling pics, particularly with the Lafayette and Rag & Bone jackets. I'm assuming you're commenting on the initial photos and like the VB moto the best, with the Lafayette as "next" (meaning, next best?)? If not, the numbers would mean you like the T&B moto best followed by the Rag & Bone. Ugh!

I know you're traveling and I hate for you to have to spend another minute on my post, but if you see this and can clarify, I'd be forever grateful. And yes, I plan to have the sleeves altered. The VB one will be tricky because of the zips. I'm thinking they may have to move the whole zipper part of the arm up a few inches and hide a seam in the pattern -- at least that is my hope. I don't see how I can wear the sleeves on that one as they are.

I like the VB a LOT, it's my fav of the bunch. I also like the piped blazer but looks like you have cuffs turned up - can those be altered?

I like the moto enough, if you can come up with ideas. But you don't sound that excited by it.

With regard to the Treasure and Bond moto and vest, to paraphrase the bard, "Sleeves or no sleeves, that is the question"! I feel like both would get worn, so we will see how the final haul shakes out. I recall wearing the vest in the middle of winter under a coat; I'd probably wear the jacket as a jacket in the fall.

Another vote for the suede jacket. The color is fantastic on you and it just feels like it could be worn a multitude of ways.

The Rag & Bone looks good but I agree that the fit might be off. The JCrew is a no for the reasons you already articulated.

I really love the T&B moto. Fit looks good and the styling works. The only question is how much you'd wear it if you already have a near duplicate.

Suz, I'm glad you said something about the Rag & Bone because I'm not 100% sold on it, as everyone else seems to be. It was actually in my returns pile for a bit before I posted the jacket round-up and started reading the positive responses! I'd love to hear what your eye is seeing with regard to fit, as I love the tipping and versatility as do you, to see if we match -- and if the issues are a deal breaker or not.

What I was seeing is a jacket that can't quite close and that "wings out" at the hips, rather than fall straight as in the model photo. Others have said they prefer this kind of fit rather than the model shot, so who knows?

The suede one is gorgeous on you. The best of the lot, IMO, now that they are styled, and I would not have said that beforehand. You wear it really, really well. Also it helps to see your face. '

I had a hunch the J. Crew was a poor fit, and glad you have ruled it out.

I like the Rag and Bone but am not convinced the fit is right on it. But it seems as if you are in love and it is certainly versatile. I have a sugar eye for tipping like that so it is hard to judge and maybe that (paradoxically) makes me pickier about it.

I actually really like the moto (Treasure and Bond) on you, too, but it doesn't make sense to duplicate or near duplicate.

Still R&B for the win. :-)

I do like the Lafayette as well, especially how you have it styled. It's got a quiet elegance. Color works for you. I think I might have them taper the sleeves a bit (elbow to wrist).

And I might just try the next size down for comparison. Suede (like leather) will stretch, right? Seems you've got some room in the shoulders and arms there. So why not go a size down. It may take out some of the volume in the body.

Amazing to see how different the R&B looks in the two pics - both look great on you. I'm not that into motos (too stiff for me) but I just adore your look in the first photo - great styling. I agree with Firecracker, the suede is gorgeous and looks great on you in this pic but you'll have to think about if you'll wear it. I loved unfrumped's cautionary tale! One thought, if you have something more body con underneath the jacket, the boxiness will not be the full story.

Love the R and B jacket with the striped top! Yes, it is much better than the JCrew one.

I really like how you've styled the suede jacket with the leopard scarf. It is a classic cut and a classic colour so that's why I'm not jumping up and down, but it could be a very nice workhorse. Maybe the wow-factor is in the softness of the suede.

The VB jacket --could you wear it with a skirt or dress? I think you would likely only ever wear it a couple of different ways, because it is the statement.

The styling exercise is really instructive! It's great to see that you were able to make some decisions based on the trials. I think the Rag & Bone looks like a keeper. And I really like the leather moto jacket on you. I guess it depends on whether you feel you can use a jacket and a vest, given your climate and lifestyle.
I still really like the suede jacket. It looks gorgeous on you with that scarf. It's quite different from the other looks, and yet you look very at ease in it.

Wow! I love the shaping on the R&B tipped jacket. Much better than the JC. The suede-- it's a great rich neutral color on you AND you can add pops of teal, navy , burgundy, prints( as you did) etc to liven it up. I'd need to twirl around in it and see if I like it from different angles. Boxy- luxe is not a problem if it's a " happy fit". For a spendy item you want it to be versatile, easy-- good with trousers, jeans, light T or tank in fall, layer over merino in winter. So being comfortable and easy fit can be a plus. For me, I need to just be sure I " love " it and not go, oh, it's suede, it's Lafayette, my only chance to upgrade. That's how I made some mistakes with higher-end brand sales items. All that to say, i like what I see of it so far.

You all are geniuses! Despite the 80 degree heat (and the fact most of my winter clothes are packed away), I tried styling the jackets as I would wear them and I've totally changed my tune on some. See if you agree.
1, 6: The Treasure and Bond moto is fine and could be a real workhorse, but I realized I have a similar vest from them from last year's NAS (in Finds), so it may not be the best use of my funds. It also might look a little oversized, but I think I'm ok with that, given its style.
2, 3: The Rag and Bone jacket proved to be very versatile. These are only partially styled with regard to accessories, but it looked good both skewing preppy (#2) as well as more polished (#3).
4: The J Crew sweater jacket that I thought was a home run just looked bulky in my styling shots, as seen in this example I'm almost embarrassed to post. The striped T and the coordinating J Crew argyle vest were no better. It's being returned.
5: The Lafayette suede jacket, as I'd be most inclined to wear it (although you miss the round neck/snap detail) I had an olive cashmere shell underneath, for when I want to remove the scarf. It's very luxe but I know it's kind of shapeless. Does this help at all?
Not pictured:
- the VB moto, which basically looked the same "styled" as it did yesterday. Maybe I need more ideas besides a navy sweater or white blouse. As a result, I'm still on the fence. I plan to take it into the store to see if shortening the sleeves is even possible. Otherwise, I may have to pass due to that and the higher cost per wear I expect from it.
- the J Crew houndstooth. I like the idea of it (fab equestrienne) more than I like the jacket on me. It wasn't comfortable and it definitely isn't "sing." It's being returned.

Thanks, all! This has been a great exercise!

I also prefer the fit of #6 on you rather than on the model, including the turned up sleeve. Other than that, I feel the jackets have different vibes making them not all directly comparable, and not knowing your style or wardrobe, I can't really comment as to which ones will work best.

Wow, great reviews.
It's hard for me to tell fit in these photos. That is # 1 priority.
Next, I echo styling them. That might take me an hour or more but is where " the truth" comes out. Which bottoms, tops, colors, proportions. Otherwise I can acquire jacket orphans.

I echo Firecracker in that #3, though boxy at first glance (might a smaller size work?), might be the most wearable, versatile and "special" of them all. Gotta love that supple tan suede! Of the others, I like #6 best.

I dress similarly in cool weather - jeans, tee, boots, jacket. These are all nice jackets. Assuming the colors work, and the alterations are doable, I like 1, 3 and 5 best.

Great line up of jackets. It is difficult to tell the fit of the jackets from the photographs. Do you prefer warmer colours or cooler colours? I liked #2, #5 and #6 on you best.

First impression without reading the details were yay to 1,4, and 6 but beyond that it definitely comes down to need, budget, comfort and fit.

This is an amazing line up of jackets that would each elevate jeans and a tee. Which feel most you? Just going by the photos I like 1, 4, & 5 best. Please let us know what you decide.

This is such a nice selection!

I got a Lafayette jacket and a long cardigan this NAS and the quality is so nice. I think the suede has potential. It's true that it doesn't have a lot of shape, but relaxed luxe is so nice to wear.

I love the VB Moto, especially that it's navy. I would have tried it but was concerned about sleeve length. If you are comfortable with the fit, it's a great jacket.

Of the 2 tipped styles, I actually prefer 6 as it's more sleek compared to the patch pockets on the other.

Jackets should feel good to wear so i would pass on 5. If the moto is comfortable and you've wanted it for some time, then it sounds like a keeper!
