Ugh! The duty and taxes just kills the fun doesn't it. I feel like for NAS when you add all the extra fees on we basically end up paying the original price. I hope LisaP is right about a new CDN website coming in January.

Just popping in to endorse the Barefoot dreams cardigans. I got one a few years ago and to me it was worth every penny. I wore it more like a robe than as a lounge piece because it was so easy to throw on over pajamas. So I had it on almost daily for several months each year and I've now had it at least 3 years. I also gifted it numerous times (a lot, like to 8 people because it was that comfy!) and every single person loved it. Many of them wore it as an actual cardigan rather than lounge wear. The one I have and gifted is a different style, more drapey, but I'm sure the one pictured is lovely too.

Be warned that the sleeves may seem snug at first (and after washing) but they do stretch.

Ugh! That's a big ticket. It changes the price considerably. :(

But Pikolinos is carried in Canada for sure and might be available online elsewhere later on.

Update: on advice from dear Suz, I tried the online chat support and was able to confirm that the Vicar booties and the BlankNYC jacket are NOT being carried in Canadian stores at all.

BUT! Thanks to all your help, I'm feeling confident the 10/40 is the correct size in the Pikolinos. Will most likely take a deep breath and order them tonight. They're a scary-big-ticket purchase for me, but boots always are--and they're always worth it here in Rain City.

ETA: OUCH, almost $70 in taxes, duties, and shipping
for the booties. That's too much for me. Will see if they turn up at a
Canadian store later in the year, since Google shows me the brand is in
fact carried here.

Am testing out one pair of the BP joggers this week to see if they bag out massively or start to pill before taking the tags off the other pair. So far, so good.

I usually wear a 9 in most boots and tried both a 39 & 40 in the Vicar. The 39 fit, but only with thin socks and was a little snug across the ball of my foot. It might have stretched, but I went with the 40, which allowed for thicker socks and more room for my feet.

I take a 7 or 7.5, and I bought the 38 (size 8) in the Pikolinos Vicar. I tried the 37, but it was too snug. I feel I'm truly a 7, when there is enough width for my somewhat high-volume foot, and often in Euro sizes, if there is 37.5, that's what I take.

Good luck!

Oh, and I wish you hadn't pointed out those Cozy Joggers to me.

Back to add my nod at your Barefoot Dreams comments. I have often wondered about those pieces, tempted by them but put off by the really high costs for us . How could lounge wear be THAT good? Well, I finally saw a few pieces in person in a local lingerie shop, and discovered how utterly soft and luxurious they are, but am not convinced enough to pull the trigger unless they were really marked down. I have a mental block against spending tons of $ on lingerie and sleepwear .

So great to see you! Wish we could have shopped together in person. But next time.

Anyway -- FWIW, my intel:

The Pikolinos boots felt TTS for me in 37 EU (I'm a 6.5 or 7 US size but always better in EU 37 than the American sizes). My feet are medium volume with regular width forefoot, narrow heel, highish arch.

I am SO tempted by the Barefoot dreams for loungewear. I've just never really known if they would be worth it, but I feel some of the same needs you do in this climate -- after a long day it is so great to curl up in something cozy. I was curious about those joggers, too. Hmmm....

LOVE that you are bossing your clothes around! Go Team Wear It How You Like It!!

Angie told me in person that she was SOOOOOO disappointed by the ASTR coat. She had great hopes for it for a few clients but said it really didn't look nice on anyone, just hung there, and for many felt scratchy and low quality.

Some brands don't come to Canadian Nordstrom's because they're already in other stores -- BlankNYC might be one if they sell that at The Bay. I know that Topshop is an exclusive to the Bay. But others, like Eileen Fisher, are not, and it might be worth calling a store or going back in and getting a SA to look up whether the item is available at the Canadian sale, period. If they have it in Toronto or Calgary or Ottawa, they will mail it to you for free. You don't even have to pick it up in store -- you can simply have it sent to your home if you want.

Good luck!

I'm a US 7.5-8 / euro 38 and I found the 38 to fit TTS. (But I will say that I usually disregard the US size conversion on european shoes and just use the original euro sizing. If you don't know your euro size that obviously won't work.) My feet are low volume and on the narrow side but I did feel like there was extra room in the instep and heel (I will be adding a superfeet insole that takes up some of that room).

I've ordered EF from Nordstrom before (as recently as this spring) so I don't think it's because of any exclusivity agreement. I know the pieces in NAS are usually made specifically for that sale, but most of them ship here too. I suspect the jeans are subject to huge tariffs due to the high cotton content, and the fact that they are made in the US, and maybe they were too complicated to ship here. Who knows?

I placed an on-line order late last week, and although everything was "confirmed", only one piece has supposedly shipped. I suspect it will be a long process with things arriving separately . Good thing it's July and I'm in no hurry

kkards, thanks for the insight about what's carried in US stores. Makes sense, of course. I probably had my hopes up too high! Was still a fun adventure. Now that I've spent some serious time in the store, I'm less intimidated by it.

This is helpful, thank you! Lisa, I wondered about whether something like that might be going on. I know some brands can't be brought into Canada for whatever reason, and I've never seen Pikolinos anywhere here so it's possible it's one of those.

I wonder if EF and Coach have exclusive distribution agreements with The Bay already, which precludes Nordstrom from selling them in Canada?

Fellow Canadian here:) I had the Pikolinos in my cart too, until I looked closer at the sizing . It didn't seem consistent with what I know of Euro sizing, and didn't make sense to me. I wear a 39 or a US/Cdn 8 . I was worried about fit problems, so decided to pass on them. I have ordered the grey faux leather drapey moto, and sized up as per Angie's recommendation . Several of the pieces I wanted to order on line ended up not being available to ship to Canada : "item does not ship to Canada" was the message attached to the order. I'm guessing duties were an issue. This applied to the EF Boyfriend jeans and a Coach bag - not the end of the world for me.

IME, I’d probably order the 40. I have to order the 12/42 in Pinkolinos, even though I’m a consistent size U.S. 11. The equivalent sizes between Euro and U.S. run smaller in the larger sizes - it’s not a one to one correspondence.

I find the Pikolonos TTS but I have a slightly low-volume, slightly narrow foot. I would only wear a thin sock with my usual size 8 — I would not call the fit roomy. If you have any desire to wear a more substantial sock, and have a wider or more average to high volume foot, I would size up. You can always use insoles if need be.

I am a US 7.5 (sometimes 8), and I ordered the EU38 in this bootie. I have ordered from Pikolinos before and the 38 was the correct size for me, but my feet are narrow and low volume. Not sure if that helps?

Thanks for the report. I didn't try the booties so I can't help with that. But lots of people got them so they should come in soon. I'll check out the cozy joggers.

thank you so much for this great recap...looks like you are going to have a very cozy fall/winter.

as an FYI, many of Angie's top picks are not carried in my (US) store....in fact, even some of the Nordstrom's house brands aren't carried in my local store, mind blowing, at least to me....

no intel on the Pikolinos boots, but i will say that Italian sizing and French sizing (both often labeled as EU sizes) are slightly different...i hoping that someone who bought them chimes in

Hi friends! It's been ages and ages since I posted, but I still read the blog regularly and scan the forum when I have time. I decided to pop back in today because I trekked downtown to the Vancouver Nordstrom in the hopes of trying some of Angie's picks and thought I'd share a report from Canada and ask for some advice.

First, can anyone help me with sizing on the Pikolinos studded booties? I usually take a size 9 or 9.5, and my feet are slightly wide. My only shoes with an EU size on them (the Ecco silver sneaks everyone had a couple of years back) are marked as US9/EU40. In the Pikolinos, though, the EU40 is listed as US10. I'm confused! My feet are a little on the wide side and I can usually wear US9.5 just fine; should I order the US10/EU40s?

Now for the NAS adventure itself. This is long, but I thought the details might be helpful to other non-US folks who have to deal with limited in-store stock and/or online-only orders.

The items I was interested in were:
- The studded burgundy Pikolinos Vicar Water Repellent Studded Bootie. These were the #1 thing that I wanted. My current booties are worn out and I absolutely need to replace them with something this season.
These ones look like a no-brainer for my style, my life, and my climate.

- The charcoal BlankNYC Onto The Next Faux Leather Drape Front moto (and the fawn Record Breaker one that wasn't one of Angie's picks). I'm always on the lookout for lightweight non-black toppers with a bit of edge and NO WRIST ZIPPERS (so noisy on my desk/keyboard!) that I can wear at work. This one looked like it would be perfect. The Bay does carries some BlankNYC so I'll check there for it once their fall stock arrives.

- The Halogen Scoop-Back Knit Top in navy. An easy piece for work and for weekends when I need something just a bit nicer than a t-shirt.

The bad news first: None of the items I hoped to try were available in the store. I checked with the sales associates, but they didn't know anything except that they weren't being carried. I did spot a bunch of the other Angie picks and forum favourites, though, so it's not an utterly barren wasteland.

Now for the good news: the sales associates were just lovely, and I came home with a few gems (I think). I got:

-The Halogen Scoop-Back Knit top in burgundy. I wanted navy but it wasn't available and the burgundy is a nice alternative. I tried it on backwards at first by accident, and it looked great. When I tried it on the correct way it clung to my bust and was super unflattering. So I'll be wearing it backwards. Whatever works! Will go well with tons of my clothes, including some orphaned pieces.

- The Caslon Rounded V-Neck Pocket Tee in "Grey Ebony". The neckline, drape, colour, and material should be perfect for me for weekends, travel, and loungewear. I wanted to duplicate but this was the last one. May bite the bullet and order a couple more in navy and pink, which weren't in store. Fills a significant wardrobe hole.

- The Barefoot Dreams Cozy Lite Circle Cardigan in Carbon/Black Heather. I've always wondered why these cardis are so beloved because they looked unremarkable, especially for the high-for-me price point. Well, I petted one out of curiosity, and that was that. I've never felt anything like it--simultaneously weighty and light, cool and cozy, silky and almost... liquid, somehow? Magic. Plus it looks great on. Life's been challenging lately so I've been gravitating to cozy, comforting items that make me feel safe and cared-for. This piece fills several wardrobe holes plus that emotional one. I suspect it will get a ton of wear. Note: I did try to the longer waterfall-style one as well and it didn't look as nice, plus the hem at the neck seemed to be on the verge of fraying. I don't usually like the bulkiness of shawl collars that fold back on themselves, but the one on the circle cardi works for me. Long grey cardis of all kinds are some of my most-worn items.

- The BP. Cozy Joggers in light grey heather. Again, as soon as I touched them I was done for. Not as magical as the Barefoot Dreams material, but still lovely. They fold up super light so they'll be good for travel, where they can do triple duty as PJs, loungewear, and ultra-casual athleisure. I like the long rise, the non-restricting waistband, and the fact that they're so lightweight I barely feel them when they're on. I hesitated to spend $35 on them but when I did a mental cost-per-wear projection and also remembered how I've been wishing I had pants like these almost every day after work for a couple of years, it was an easy decision. I chose to put back some tops I didn't really need and duplicate these instead. They don't seem to be very study but if they last me for a year or so I'll be satisfied.

I also tried the ASTR lavender and blue plaid coat. I loved the colours and the collar, but it's a LOT of coat. I wasn't ready to commit. I didn't love the wide sleeves and the beige buttons. It's super soft but definitely felt like "fast fashion" quality (think H&M or F21). Very oversized--I'm usually an L or XL, and I was SWIMMING in the XL. Even the L was a bit more oversized than I wanted, especially in the sleeves.

The Pikolinos booties are still sitting in my online cart. I may swallow the Borderfree hassles and go ahead and order them if I can get the sizing sorted out.

Whew, that was a lot of words. I hope it's helpful for someone out there!
