The Bernardo is such an interesting design, and I like it especially with the moto insert on you. It's very nice that you can also wear it with a classic look, without the moto. I was thinking the teal coat leans a little more toward gear, as you mentioned. I wonder if you might come across one that has a removable lining, which could be more useful. I know the color is a big part of the attraction, though, and that could be hard to find. I was also surprised by the heavy weight, and even if it had fit me better I’d have sent it back because of that. The thing is, I think it’s too warm to wear in most rain, and if it’s straight up SNOWING I don’t think you’d need something so aggressively waterproof, you know? I’d prefer a merely water resistant but more breathable/less stiff fabric for snow personally , for comfort and aesthetic reasons. Which kind of leaves a pretty narrow range of temps/weather to wear it. Basically like around freezing/slush/frozen rain. But I was also specifically looking for a raincoat I could wear in fall/spring, not winter, so you may have different needs. Not sure why, but it does make the color look a little more muted. </p> <p>I see these two coats as having such different uses, I’m not considering them as an either/or, but each individually.</p> <p>I am realizing more and more that I really like this length. It has some drama without being overwhelming as a truly long coat can be, and it’s practical. </p> <p>I was considering what use these might have. I have a coat from Kenzie from years ago that’s a black and grey houndstooth. It has served me well and I’m not going to be hasty in letting it go, but I do think the Bernardo would make a good update to it. The Bernardo would probably also nudge me to let go of the long Mural plaid jacket from a couple of years ago that has always been just a titch snug in the hip (plus I wore it during an unfortunate incident and I can never seem to disassociate that coat from the incident in my mind!). </p> <p>The teal Pendleton is a bit more gearish, but that may not be a bad thing. It would serve a different need, which is currently served in my wardrobe with either my very long black puffer or my white Helly Hansen shell layered over an insulating layer, which skews very gearish so I only wear it for winter activity and very foul weather. The closest thing I have to this coat is my old Athleta raincoat which is also too snug to layer comfortably underneath. I changed out of my hiking gear to try them on, but again be warned that I’ve paid no attention to hair or makeup, LOL. </p> <p>The plaid Bernardo coat with the removable moto insert exceeded my expectations! Pretty nice quality for the price point, and I quite like the fit. It’s warmer than I expected, so I need to make sure I’ll be ok with that. Roomier than I expected too. This is a M and has plenty of room in the hip, which is often where I run into trouble. I took pics buttoned fully, buttoned only at the top, and open, and pics with the moto insert and without.</p> <p>The teal Pendleton is also warmer than I expected and I need to consider that. This can sub for a long puffer in my world. I love the color and length. It’s roomy all over but not crazily so. I could layer under it easily if I needed to. Don’t mistake my facial expressions for unenthusiasm — I was just getting really warm by then and wanted to get out of that winter gear since it was warm in the house! LOL</p> <p>Thoughts?</p> <p>Bonus: crazy heirloom tomato from our garden. </p>
