My problem with this wrap-around style of coat - which, like Deborah, I wore the first time they came in, in the seventies - is how much unwanted bulk they add to the torso when made in a winter-weight fabric, either woven or knitted. I swear this style used to add fifteen pounds to my appearance, no joke. Of course I am biased, since I am well and truly on Team Figure Flattery these days...for me the belt is the main problem, not the wide lapel or the double breasted (double-fabric thickness) effect. A trench style belt (i.e. with buckle) would be a big improvement. But even so, this look can still make one look shortwaisted - because the bottom of the v-neck opening sits so close to the belt.
