Nice review, Janet! I like the idea of the platform loafers; as long as they are comfortable, for me it would all come down to how I liked the look of the vamp on my foot. Your styling ideas sound just right.
Of the tops (which are all great), I'm most taken with the chevron design. I can immediately see you wearing that one for a great casual chic look. Maybe even with the platform loafers!
It will be interesting to see what you decide on the coat. It's a very cool piece, but I might have trouble with its in-between-ness myself. I feel the same way about sweater coats--if it's cold enough for something like that, I want it to provide more protection against wind.

Hope you feel better soon! I came back from my recent vacation with a cold, too--a very unwelcome surprise in the middle of summer!

You have a great selection of NAS items, and you definitely put a lot of thought into what will work or won't work with your current wardrobe. I never noticed either the Topshop chevron sweatshirt or the Vince colorblock blouse before; both are very cool. My first pair of Paul Green shoes (many years ago, and a huge, huge splurge for me then) were loafers similar to the ones you got but with a square toes. I loved those shoes - they were edgy, lightweight and super comfortable. Enjoy.

You got some great items. I think you will enjoy your PG loafers.
I agree with you and Beth about the NYDJ dress. I also ordered it and it looks great on but that liner is torture. I am not keeping mine, either.

Janet, I like the pieces you chose very much. The Topshop sweatshirt is especially fun. FYI, I returned the NYDJ dress for the very same reason you did. Loved the dress but hated the built-in Spanx.

Hope you feel better!

Denise, I definitely know what you mean. I do have a few not-so-practical but special pieces that are not frequently worn but make me feel great when I do have the occasion.

Actually, I really don't need another warm, practical coat -- I have that territory covered. I've thought about it a little since I posted, and sometimes it would be nice to have a longer but more distinctive coat or jacket -- something other than a trench coat, which I have already. The Mackage coat would cover the longer "edgy" coat/jacket desire nicely. The size I ordered would probably not be the most comfortable with my bulkiest sweaters, but this isn't really a coat for bulky sweaters anyway.

Angie, yes! I have already worn that sleeveless top -- I love it! Perfect for our warm summers!

I will definitely try the coat styled. I'm feeling very picky these days, and feeling sick doesn't help, you know? It's not always easy to envision the usefulness of a winter item when it's 90 degrees and 90% humidity. The good thing is that there is no rush to return, so I can take my time and decide after we return home from Norway in a few weeks.

That coat looks perfect for San Francisco winters. If you plan to travel to California or similar mild climates (TX?) you will love this. As well as wearing it as a fall or early spring coat. Aside from practicality, sometimes you need to go for things just because they make you feel fab. Even if the CPW isn't great. I splurged on a Rick Owens jacket, skirt and top (from my habit.com) and they will never have a sensible CPW, even purchased on sale, but I feel special when I wear these pieces.

These are great looking choices, Janet! I really like the colour block items for you. They look amazing with your higher contrast colouring and I can easily imagine them getting tons of use. I can see the dilemma with the coat; always tough to decide about a beautiful but maybe impractical item. (Says one who knows...)

Hope your cold feels better soon.

These are great choices...a nice variety. I really like the shoes ;especially the chunkiness of the soles. It sounds like the coat would be good for fall and some less cold winter days. Are you able to comfortably layer a sweater under it? It really is striking if you think it is useful enough.

Since I'm back home and had some NAS delivery items waiting for me, I thought I'd post my most recent thoughts on what will most likely join my closet and what won't.

Possible keeper:
- the Paul Green pointy-toe loafers. These seem pretty comfortable on first try. They suit my low-volume, slightly narrow feel quite well, but have a bit of a chunky, edgy appearance, which I think could be a fun variation from either boots/booties or slim loafers or oxfords, to wear with skinnies, straights or even boyfriend jeans. I'll need to try styling and wearing around the house first to be sure, but it looks promising.

Likely keepers:
- the Topshop chevron sweater, once I got the right size. Pleasantly roomy, slightly cropped length. Casual and a good price point.
- the BP stripe top. I sized up for ease, and again, it's pleasantly roomy and a great price for a casual top.
- Vince colorblock blouse. Love this! Easy and a little sporty but a little dressy. Right up my alley.

What I'm returning:
-Joie slip-on sneakers. I love the idea of these, but the vamp is too high and stiff, so not the most comfortable thing on me.
- the NYDJ dress. Such a bummer, because it fits well and looks really nice on, but the stupid "slimming panel" or whatever it is underneath is a deal-breaker for me. Just too hot and uncomfortable, and it doesn't look like it would be simple to remove it.

What I'm on the fence about:
- the Mackage coat. Maybe I need to try styling it more, but I'm just not sure about it. It's such an in-between piece, I'm not sure whether it's great for my needs. I already have the black wool Trina Turk military coat (great all-purpose cold weather coat) as outerwear, and the BCBG long jacket which works as my ideal outfit completer piece. This jacket falls somewhere in between. It's not lined, it's not truly a cold winter coat, but that's not necessarily a bad thing because our winters are not the bitter, brutal winters that many of you in more northern climes have. And it's too heavy to be an outfit-completer -- it's more an outerwear thing. I'm going to try styling it and show it to hubs to see what he thinks, whether it's worth the $$ to add it to my closet.

Right now I'm battling a rotten head cold, so I don't quite have the energy to take pics and post them, but I'll try to do that if I get a chance in the next few days.
