Hey copper coat twin! Any solutions for all the extra string-age?
Nice color palette! Not sure about the neckline for suit though, its standing up over your shoulders quite a lot (maybe its from holding the phone).

Love the suit on you in the second round of photos. I thought the suit looked particularly smashing with the grey flats you're wearing with the first set of photos. And your hair looks great when it's up, which, as you said, is a requirement for this neckline.

I like your color palette and taste in clothes. The soft colors of the outfit in the picture above are so flattering on you.

Thanks everyone! I am leaning heavily toward keeping it.

Viva, I love the picture you paint of me wearing it for museum visits. I’ll have to make a point of doing just that! Realistically I think it will see me through job interviews (it’ll work just fine in my field), bookstore events and conference presentations.

Meanwhile the cream Pikolino Oxfords have made it onto my (so far quite short) list of definite keepers. They are just great — beautifully made, versatile and I don’t have anything else like them. They got their first outing today (photos below) and I’m in love with them.

The other definite keepers so far are the copper raincoat and the slinky lavender grey dress. I’m still culling and considering the rest.

That suit is one of the most amazing things I've seen lately. I don't have the life for it; as it is, I feel a bit overdressed for Portland on many days, and I don't have anything nearly this interesting! But if you have occasions to wear it, I think you should keep it. It would be SO FUN to wear (I'm imagining a life of long lazy days at a museum and meeting friends for lunch in the lovely museum cafe). :)

And the larger size looks fab.

I’m still sorting through my various orders and deciding what to keep and what to return, so a full report on my NAS purchases is still coming.

(“Going small,” snort! It was a great intention. Although in the end, I think I’ll winnow it down to a fairly small collection of keepers so, same outcome.)

In the meantime, as promised, here’s the suit, sized up. I ordered in my usual size on the first day of the sale, but now all the reviews on the Nordstrom mention having to go up in size.

I have to say I love it.

I especially love it with the sneakers. The EF shoes are fabulous, I LOVE them, but I wasn’t as sure about them with the suit; I thought the ankle strap might look awkward with the length of the pants. However, my best friend and her daughter/my goddaughter both give that look a thumbs up, and they’re my top two fashion consultants, so I’m reconsidering. Then there’s also my original idea of blush suede ballet flats.

I’m definitely leaning toward keeping it. I’ll need to get the sleeves shortened if I do. It’s such a fun fantasy piece and I think I’ll just need to create some occasions to wear it.

I LOVE the pants of the suit. I find the top a little tight, and the sleeves too long. You can try a size up and have the sleeves shortened if you like.

I got the suit! Still thinking about whether I’ll wear it enough to justify the purchase.

The pants are pretty tight. They’re meant to be and one thing I love about this suit is that the fabric has some stretch. But I still may size up.

Wearing my hair up in the photos to take full advantage of the neckline. I don’t very often but I think I’d have to for this look!

Jessikams, I think you're right, and that's a good way for me to think about it—too bathrobe-y, heh! That coat is definitely going back, and now I'm looking at and for other lavender coat options, including another NAS find below, because I do still really like that idea for a very polished look with my grey suede boots... but I'm also now thinking of alternatives, like a long grey cardigan or sweater coat.

JAileen, that's one of the great things about Nordstrom, right? The free shipping and great customer service make it so easy to order things to try on at home, and not have to make a split decision, which must be especially great for you, being so far from a store. But the down-side is that it can be a little too easy... and it can be hard to let go of items once they're actually in our home! But I've gotten very good about returning stuff.

Thanks for the compliments and support on the raincoat, everyone, and Angie, thank you for the reminder to check layers underneath. I did, and I think it's a keeper. Although I still have to figure out how to use the toggle ties, and while I did try it over a sweater, it's a beautiful summer day and I just couldn't bring myself to put my rain boots on.

To my surprise, nothing new arrived today, but I still have a bunch of goodies coming to try on.

I think it’s ok that you’ll have to let go of the lavender coat— the combination of pastel color plus the style reads very “bathrobe” to me. Too bad because I love your idea of a gray and lilac outfit with the dress...

Knitting Gene, thanks for the info on the Pikolinos! I've ordered them in two sizes to try on.

And thanks, Windchime, for the reminder about Nordstrom's alteration policy! You are so right.

I love that lavender is in style, it's one of my favorite colors, and goes well with all my neutrals — cream, grey, taupe and blush. So this was an easy NAS palette for me to put together.

I think I'm going to have to let go of the lavender coat, though. The thing is, I'm actually wearing the same size in both the photos I posted here (I eliminated the second size I got right away for being too big). So you can see from the unbelted one that the bunching at the waist is not actually a matter of the coat being too small. I think Knitting Gene is right that it's just cut oddly and I appreciate Sterling saying that I deserve a coat that fits better, a good thought to keep in mind! I love the fabric and color and may try the XXS (just to be sure; it would be very rare that I would need to go that small) when I'm in the store at the end of this week, but I would only get it if it fits beautifully and I feel great in it and I'm not holding out a lot of hope for that based on this one.

The color is in style so I'll keep my eyes open for other options; J. Crew often does good coats in stylish colors and they have great sales.

Moving right along, I'm expecting a big delivery tomorrow and I will definitely be updating with new purchases!

I love your color palette; grey and soft lavender are wonderful together. The raincoat looks great on you. If the lavender coat works in a smaller size, I think you can get it hemmed by Nordstrom for free. I bought Pendleton coat on the NAS two years ago, and they let out the sleeves without charge.

I’m so glad the raincoat fits so well and makes you happy. I’m likely going to keep my Vince sneakers too! I love the creamy off-white. It really does seem like the lavender coat is just oddly cut. I respect your trying another size, tho!

I don’t think you’ve seen the Pikolinos loafers in person, right? I wasn’t going to try them but I saw them at the store and, wow, what lovely soft leather. Really nice. I’m wearing my cognac pair in the House to make sure of size.

Thanks, Kathie, Sterling and Suz! I really do love that raincoat and am glad to get the affirmation that it works.

I also agree about the awkward fit of the coats. Yes, too big in the shoulders yet bunchy in the waist, and actually a bit too long in the arms also! I think I got the smallest size in the P, but I see there are two smaller regular sizes, XS and XSS, and that it says to order a size down if you're between sizes, so I'm going to try the next one down and see if that works better. I see in the photo they have it tied much more loosely, and I also realize that one of the things I like in the photo is that it's just above the knee on the model, so, just as described above in my sizing lament, even if I find a size that works, I may need to have it hemmed.

I am loving these colors too! And also seeing everyone else's. I will continue to update here as my items arrive. I'm thinking about that lavender cashmere sweater and the Oxfords with white jeans... and the lavender coat if I can find the right size... Ah, clothes lust!

Raises hand about planning on going "small." In fact, I said I wasn't going to shop NAS at all, but I placed multiple orders on Friday morning and Saturday. I am pretty psyched about my orders too.

I'm glad you are keeping the grey/lavender dress and the metallic raincoat. That metallic raincoat will be a show stopper. I agree that the lavender coats don't fit you as well as you deserve. Ordering a different size may be the answer and I encourage you to try because it is a gorgeous color on you.

Your color palette is refreshingly beautiful. There is a calmness about it that attracts my eye.

I know what you mean by “going small.” I always think I’ll do the same, but even if I only get a couple fun items, there’s still replenishing bras, usually some work essentials for my husband, so my orders end up being a lot bigger!

The rain coat is amazing on you! Perfect with your hair.

Both the lavender coats seem to be an awkward fit. The first picture (xs?) looks too large in the shoulders, but is pulling oddly around the hips. Maybe retie the belt, and take another picture? Or try it open? And the second one (petite s?) seems too large through the shoulders. How does it look when tied closed?

Looking forward to seeing your other items.

Okay, some updates and reviews!

First, "going small," hahahahaha!

While waiting for my first limited (so restrained!) selection to arrive, I kept shopping and now I've ordered quite a haul to try on. I won't be keeping everything, but you can see my additional orders and a few items I'm still thinking about ordering (the tie cashmere sweaters, the cream colored oxfords) below.

Of the items above, I'm still waiting for the suit (I still promise to report when I get it); they're completely out of the Caslon jacket in the color I wanted (In fact, pretty much out of it altogether. Darn! That was one of both mine and Angie's top picks! I'm still holding out some hope that they'll restock it...) and also out of the Zelle hoodie. I've found another hoodie (below) that I might like even better, which I've ordered.

I'm pretty sure I'm keeping the grey/lavender dress, the white Vince sneakers, and the metallic raincoat.

I absolutely LOVE the raincoat. I can't claim to need another raincoat; even though the Bay Area where I live has rainy winters fairly regularly and I also spend a good amount of time in Portland, Oregon, I'm well-stocked with raincoats. But this is a special item that I won't find again. The color is what I was hoping for — bronze, rather than pink — and will go beautifully with my workhorse grey Hunter rain boots. I like the way it fits, and it's very well-made. The upper part has a nice felt-like lining that makes it more comfortable than the metallic fabric would be on its own, plus it will add some warmth. If you're considering this coat, I recommend it!

The Vince sneakers, which I'm wearing in all these pics, are very comfortable and will be so useful and versatile. I'm also considering the metallic slip-ons below. I already have a pair of gold (they're supposed to be rose gold, but they're really more gold) sneaks that I got from Boden a year or two ago, so I really can't justify a second pair that fills such a similar need. I ALWAYS get compliments on the Bodens when I wear them and they really jazz up any outfit (and I wear a lot of neutrals, so that's great). But... these new ones are Munro's, they're much better quality and more comfortable...

I'll post photos of the lavender dress another time. It's lovely but I think I may need to have it altered slightly, plus I have several outfit ideas in mind for it, so I'm going to take those pics when I have the energy to do a few quick changes (i.e., not at midnight).

That brings me to the lavender coat, which, sigh, doesn't fit well. I ordered two sizes to try on, the regular XS and the petite S. The regular XS is definitely too big, and the petite S, pictured, also seems too big, doesn't it? The fabric and color are to die for (although one of the belt loops fell off completely as I was tying the sash on the first try on — really, Bagdley Mischa?!), so I guess I'm going to have to order the petite XS to see if that works. I'd love to get others' opinions about the fit and also reviews from anyone else who has tried this coat.

I'm 5'2" but I'm generally not that hard to fit, I most typically wear a size 4. But I'm between a 2 and 4, rather than between a 4 and 6, so when things are sized XS and S I'm usually right in between (typically they define XS as 0-2 and S as 4-6). So that's a little frustrating. And I'm slightly short-waisted, so I've found with some brands—Boden especially—when I order a petite it's the right length, but the waist hits me too high, so I've taken to ordering regulars and having them hemmed. Also a little frustrating but good fit is everything.

The long dress is the one item that's not part of the sale, but it is modestly priced, and I'm excited to try it. I'm hoping it will replace one I ordered last year, similarly low-priced, which I loved and got a lot of wear out of but have to sadly let go of due to stains. It was a synthetic fabric that just picked up everything.

I love the color and style of the EF shoes and they seem so useful, especially since I don't wear heels at all now. I also think they'll look great with the suit, although I may or may not keep the suit, as, where am I going to wear it, except in my fantasies where I'm being interviewed by Trevor Noah? (I love the observation that the suit is "Meghan Markle inspired," although of course she would definitely be wearing it with stilletos...)

The Munro sneakers have arrived and I've ordered everything else below except for the two cashmere sweaters and the Oxfords, all of which I'm still considering, at least to try and depending on what else I keep. Ooohhh, I love the Oxfords in that color, and I don't have anything like them, so....

So much for "going small!"

Thanks everyone! I'm very into this color palette also. As I've said before, color is the piece of my style, and my aesthetic in general, that I'm most confident about. And grey has always been one of my favorite neutrals; I've added cream more recently.

I did end up ordering the suit. I think it's unlikely that I'll keep it but I did want to try it at least, and realized I should order it on the big bonus points day on off chance that I do decide to. I'll definitely post a photo if it looks good and then you all can help me decide whether it makes sense to keep. I've been considering a pair of pink suede ballerina flats forever, if I do keep the suit I may finally purchase those next time they go on sale at Garnet Hill to complete my French film actress fantasy...

I'll also report in on the color of the metallic rain jacket. It looks like some of my order is already on the way!
