I have 12" calves - repeat recommendation aquatalias - especially the woven leather shaft which has stretch - it's a repeat styling and is the best fitting boot ever. Also SW has stretch suede, same fits a narrow calf. The La C boots are too wide in the shaft and ankle but most importantly they run short. I carry my length in my calves - if you have long calves then SW and Aquatalia will fit better. If you want an equestrian style boot the ariats are semi custom - I cannot get their narrow shaft zipped - their regular runs small, you can select shaft height, calf width, size, width, color and several styles and excellent quality with ABS footbed with excellent arch support. The only shoe/boot I can wear without an orthotic.

I have Clarks and Bandolino boots that fit well on my skinny calves, but another thing I've done is to wear thicker boot socks to fill the gap.

As a fellow narrow calf gal I fully understand the struggle to find boots that fit properly. I have some Rocco P's that I bought many years ago that fit like a dream, but were exorbitant even then. I find Paul Greens fit well on the ankle. Mostly the European brands, and specifically Italian made boots, fit the best.

I also have 12" calves and boot shopping is almost impossible. Even booties are hard because of small ankles. I finally made peace with the fact that I am going to have to spend more than I'd like to on a pair of boots. Are your legs from knee to foot a bit shorter than average? I suspect that is the case for part of my problem. Also. The opening of most boots hits my leg at the wrong spot. Knee highs are actually a bit too high, so the opening hits more at the knee than calf.
My feet are larger (8) so the shaft of that size boot is bigger than a size 6 would be. As Gigi said. I got a pair of Aquatalia black riding boots at the 2017 NAS that fit well and are worth the extra expense. They are warm and waterproof and fit well in all areas.
I also found a pair of suede Over the Knee boots that are not a perfect fit but work ok. They are a bit big at the ankle, but not bad.

I have narrow calves and struggle too. It's awful. I think there are a lot of ladies with narrow calves who aren't finding what they need. It's frustrating.

As others have noted, things can be especially tricky if you have a larger foot size. Shoe manufacturers have decided that the larger the foot size, the larger the calf, which makes no sense. I have a size 6-6.5 foot and 12" calves.

I have boots that fit my calf from Aquatalia, Stuart Weitzman, and Cole Haan. Aquatalia and SW are especially expensive. I got my Aquatalias on sale from Amazon one year, when Amazon ran a special for 30% off all shoes around Christmastime. SWs can be found at Nordstrom Rack for about $450. Still pricey, but when you have small calves, you'll be hunting for high quality (which all of the above brands are) and less quantity.

I did have one pair of boots (by La Canadienne) taken in by a cobbler, and the result was so-so. I ordinarily recommend that people not do that, because the alteration is very difficult and often doesn't turn out well. Having said that, I do realize that even though the work is mediocre, it does give me a pair of riding boots to wear in the fall and on mild winter days, which I otherwise wouldn't have. So you can go this route, but be prepared to be underwhelmed. I was told by a cobbler that if you can find a boot that zips up the back as opposed to on the side, the alteration is much easier.

There is a brand of boot called Solemani that caters to narrow calves and is sold on Amazon. The boots come in 12" and 13" styles. I ordered a pair a few years ago. The fit in the calf was amazing! But there was too much space in the ankle, so I unfortunately had to send them back. But the quality and price point were good. I keep checking the Amazon Solemani offerings to see if they ever offer new styles, because I'd love to try them again.

For custom boots, there is Poppy and Barley, or Ted and Muffy. I think Ted and Muffy used to be Duo Boots. I have no experience with them.

I ordered a pair of over-the-knee boots from a brand called Bruno Premi last year, from Anthropologie. They fit perfectly in the calf, but they ran a little big for foot size, and I was already in the smallest size, so I returned them. I'm not sure if that was a one-off thing or if Bruno Premi boots are narrow in the calf in general.

When I shop the Anthropologie website, I have noticed that they almost always show the boots on the models' legs, which is so helpful. The legs of Anthro models are usually very skinny, and Anthro doesn't seem to Photoshop the boots to be smaller in the circumference, so you can guess how the boot will fit you by seeing how it fits the model. The other thing I like to do is see if Zappos has a video of the boot. Again, a model with usually skinny legs will be wearing the boot, so I can see about how it will fit me. The Zappos videos have saved me many times from ill-advised purchases!

Life long struggle for me too ! I have found that an adjustable buckle on the side or elastic back can help. My ankles are skinny which adds to the problem. I'm currently keeping my eye out for a dressy black suede pair with a low heel . It's certainly a project between the ankles, calf width and of course comfort. Once I find a pair I never get rid of them haha. The brands that Angie posted definitely are narrower in the calf.

Kris, I have a 13 inch calf. I've found tailored tall boots that fit perfectly from Aquatalia, Peter Kaiser, La Canadienne, Dr. Martens, and Stuart Weitzman. I've also had boots custom made by Poppy Barley.

Taylor, I have a 7 inch ankle and wear a US6.5 shoe :)

These are my current tall boots.

This has been a lifelong struggle for me .
Slight frame all round with 10 inch calves and a 7 inch ankle, so booties are also an issue .
I have found lace up booties are helpful . I wear a 6 or 6 1/2 boot. The difference between a 6 and 7 in boot calf circumference is substantial. Obviously the smaller the shoe/boot size the smaller the shaft circumference. So if you have a bigger foot with a narrow calf ...it’s SUPER tough I would imagine.
Stuart Weitzman makes narrow shaft boots .....good luck !
