In my opinion, all fashion blogs, including YLF, are what news organizations used to call opinion pieces or editorial comment. As a reader, I get to decide whose opinions are worth paying attention to, who is just amusing, and who ought to be (in my opinion) consigned to the bottom of the birdcage.

The Internet has made it possible for anyone to put their opinions on display, without any editorial screening for credentials or content. We have to do our own sifting to find the gems in the junk heap. Fashion bloggers and fashion "experts" are no exception--there are a few whose opinions I value, a handful who amuse but whose pronouncements I often question, and piles who I'll metaphorically consign to the bottom of the birdcage.

The only reason I read a blog is to get ideas. Angie provides excellent ideas and I love the Forum is my favorite because it's so helpful to get feedback. I also like Pinterest to look at pics. I'm with Runcarla on the Sift sift sift bit. Take what makes sense and is of value to you and ignore or toss the rest. I stop reading blogs after they annoy me. I like the link love here because it's already pre-screened, and for the most part I enjoy the links.

It's all opinion anyway. I always chuckle when someone starts explaining why an outfit works, as if they are so certain that it does! Well, I'm never certain that anything works. :)

But as far as naming or not naming anyone being discussed in public, that is just the rules of basic kindness., applying to any situation and all too often disregarded. I'm glad we don't here.

Eh, I think YLF is the only blog these days I regularly read for fashion advice (and I do disagree with Angie sometimes but she never says that one *must* do anything). The rest are just eye candy - pretty outfits and items to covet - or I read them because I find the blogger's life or writing interesting, but I don't read them for the advice for the most part.

I'm with Linda. I followed a lot of fashion blogs a few years ago when I first discovered the whole style blog phenomena. Now, I barely look at most of them. Sometimes there are some useful guidelines and ideas, but any blogger who puts out such sweeping "rules" ("5 things you MUST own," "what you should never wear if you're over 40," etc.) quickly loses my interest.

I have read out this blog. I have also continuing reading some more blogs about the fashion and clothing which gives me the current trendy collections. I know much more about the fashionable collections to wear.

I find blogs such a personal thing. I read every single blog I come across, but then I decide if I am going to continue to read it. The vast majority do not get read on a regular basis. There are so many reasons why I opt to not continue reading. Sometimes I just don't "connect" with the blogger. Sometimes what they blog about has not bearing my life. Sometimes they are just off the wall.

Everything with 'a grain of salt'. Some of the stuff spouted by so called experts is just plain silly. Sometimes there is something worth considering. Sift it all. Sift it fine. Keep an open mind. Trust yourself. Look in the mirror. Take pictures. Have fun.

Honestly, I'm so over the whole "this must be worn this way and this way only" mentality. I'm all for suggestions, advice, solutions when it comes to dressing, but what works for one person may not work for another and just because one person would never do something doesn't mean no one ever should. Frumpy on me may be fantastic on you and vice versa. I love creativity and people who aren't afraid to go their own way.

I personally take don't like blanket statements like this. We all so different that thre are no rules which fit all of us.
Internet is notorious for number of people who call themselves expers and give unsolicited advice - I just ignore them if I don't agree or do not see the merit.
This is why YLF is sucha a great place: Angie always said that there are no rules, only guidelines. She has her own poison eye for certain things (like PPL ) but she never positions herself like the last instance of truth - and we listen more to her becasue of this :-)

BTW, I personally do not like breast pockets on tshirts (brcause they feel too casual for my style) but they neve create "seie boos" on me (or maybe I just don't know one when I see it LOL)

I guess on here if one wants to disagree with certain bloggers they have to remain nameless. But if I were to do what some of them say I would have to purge some of my fav things. One blogger states that little pockets on t-shirts create little side boobs. Who would have ever thought of that? another place, if your ankle pants or jeans shrink to like more than a couple of inches above ankle bone-out they should go. Well I have long legs and I even roll some of mine a bit more than that. I think it shows off shoes and I have some shoes that I think bears showing. Then there are those who tell us if we are over 40 or 50 we have to absolutely not wear certain things. glad I am so over the hill I don't fall into their categories anyhow. How do some of them come up with these things. do they sit and people watch and take notes or photos with their phones of everything they don't like.

Most likely they do what we all do-just look in the mirror and decide how it looks for us, and when in doubt we are lucky enough to have found this forum to post a photo and get an opinion.
