Fasintern, with a skirt like this I think you have options and can try different styles. It looks fabulous currently. The picture of you wearing it is lovely, such beautiful colours on you and a great piece to wear into autumn with a sweater and boots.

Thanks, RL and Jenni. I’m still not sure about it. The tie is the same material as the skirt, and thinner than the shoelace.
If I tie pretty bows, they wouldn’t really be seen (and the fabric is floppy anyway).
I see what you mean about threading them vertically for ruching, but there are 4 vertical rows (2 per side) and only 2 laces. Somehow it’d have to go from one side to the other. And they have to tie to something.

Hmm. I was thinking they wouldn’t cross back and forth but in a line, so they’d ruch the skirt up...

I guess a bit like lacing a shoe, yes. I wasn’t sure if you should start the lacing/crisscrossing at the bottom or the top. Maybe the bottom, crisscross up to top then down again and tie a bow??
A bit like in my second dress pic?

JenniNZ, so like lacing a shoe? That's what I did with them this morning, but I couldn't decide if they should tie on top or bottom. When I got it, one lace was hanging by one loop and the other had one end on top on one side and bottom on the other. That didn't seem right.

BTW, right now the skirt fits perfectly, pulled all the way up to my natural waist/practically to my ribs. RL suggested the laces as ruching. If I indeed lose 2 more inches, I could do use them to make the skirt tighter and keep wearing it up high like that, or I could wear it lower and have the laces & skirt lie flat against my hips, as now.

Should there be two ties through each loop and then sort of criss-cross them over each other and pull in? Will submit this reply and then try to find a screenshot to add.
ETA: sort of like these dresses, but on each side of the skirt?

I guess I’m on Team Wear, because I couldn’t wait any longer, even though I haven’t even figured out how this thing is supposed to go. I put it on for a grocery run today, along with a favorite summer sweater that’s hardly been seen this year. After some serious summer weather recently, everything changed yesterday, and it’s now in the 60s. Very nice to be outside or sit on my balcony.

JenniNZ, your “halfway” comment made me chuckle. I am very tempted!

Jane, thanks for the additional info. Sounds like they really have covered most ethical concerns. That is so good to hear.

Lynn67, thanks for asking about the ties. I replaced one with a shoelace, just so you can see it better. The actual tie is about a foot longer than the lace. There are two rows of loops on each side of the skirt. There are buttons all the way the middle in front of the skirt.

No idea on the ties, but it’s a very pretty skirt. I ordered some tops for my UK nephews from Seasalt a few years ago. No report back on how they were though so I’m no help! I partly did it because I love Cornwall, maybe since reading “Rebecca” as a teenager. I have been there several times on our previous UK trips.
I guess Germany is sort of halfway in between England and India, so “local” to some degree!

Celia, thanks for the link! I’m completely drooling now, and even more undecided than before. I was trying to decide if Cornwall was too far for things to be transported, but now I see that many items are made in India. But they supposedly have policies for their workers. Improving working conditions could outweigh the environmental impact, but I haven’t decided.
But dang, their dresses move so nicely!
The website has sale prices not available at the store I was in today, and includes lot of interesting features, like telling where things were made, having videos for every product, and is very easy to use.
Decisions, decisions!

RL, something like that. If I can’t figure it out, I might post a pic using string instead of the lace, which is the same fabric as the skirt.

1.5 years, one slip up (3 jumpsuits & a dress) after my decision to only buy things made in my region or second-hand, I’m finally making forays into second hand shops. No hits in either of the ones I’ve tried so far, but I loved this skirt, made of viscose in Europe and sold in a store of Berlin stuff. I was sorely tempted, decided to wait to see if I found something on sale instead, turned to the sales rack, and there it was—in my size, 36% off. Leaving it there would have been tempting fate, and I couldn’t do that!

It’s hard to photograph well, but each side has two vertical rows of three loops for a skinny tie. I’m not sure if this is the way it should be laced, how else to do it, or which ends to tie together, where. Can you help???

Bonus pic is brunch during back to school shopping—he goes back tomorrow.

ETA One store (Not second hand) had several items I really like by the label Sea Salt. I think it’s from Cornwall. Do you know anything about it?
