What an nice collection of dresses, practical but chic.I m with you on the flappy sleeve thing!I think statement sleeves look gorgeous but are so impractical if you actually want to do anything other than wafting about showing off your sleeves.

Mainelady just stated what I was kind of thinking... that you could alter the sleeves in #4 to better suit your lifestyle. But you mentioned not liking the fit and flare, either. Have you considered altering the dress, maybe take it in a little bit through the waist and shorten the sleeves? It's a beautiful pattern, and that neckline suits you so well.

I'm always torn about the sunk costs of alterations. Aside from hemming pants, or making a loose skirt tighter, I generally find I let go of altered items within a year of having the work done.

You rock this look better than anyone! I’m stealing.. um, inspired! I don’t love the chevron. The others are your signature style. And it’s not the sleeves, I really prefer the outfits that don’t cling. It’s avant- grade Sundance.

You need to give me a tutorial on how to wear dresses with leggings and jeans. I like all these looks very much and the proportions that you have created. I can see that I need to use shorter dresses by looking at 1 and 3. Mine come just above the knee.

I love all these outfits, bonnie. They seem relaxed and edgy at the same time. I just wanted to pop in with another vote for shortening the sleeves of the chevron dress. Not only would that make it more practical (which I think is sort of key to your style -- all the other outfits really look like you could easily move and DO things in them), but I also think that showing some skin at the wrist (as in outfits 1 and 3 of this group) would provide some structure to offset the volume of the dress.

karen13: Thank you. It never occurred to me to alter the sleeves. I will look into this.

madeline: Thank you. I think adding another necklace is a great idea and I am going to see what I have to make it work.

La Belle Demimondaine: Thank you. Both were purchased on trips. Dh picked #2 and I found #3 in London last spring.

Dianna: Thank you I've worn #1 a lot and I like wearing it. I wore it with black leggings and black velvet sneakers the last time I wore it and go lots of compliments.

Mainelady: Thank you. Great suggestion for altering to 3/4 sleeves. I'll see what I can do to rescue this orphan.

All of your dresses look like great finds to me. I especially like how #1 and #4 look on you. I completely understand about the statement sleeves. As pretty as they are, I find they get in my way. Have you considered having the sleeves altered? I would think a 3/4 sleeve with a slit to the elbow would look great with the shape of the dress.

I really love all of your choices, but #2 and #3 are my favorites.

I can't decide on the FP Chevron dress - I think it looks amazing on you, but I'm with you on the sleeves. Anything that gets in the way of me getting food cleanly into my mouth, is a deal-breaker. (Seriously, I'm not kidding. It's why I don't have anything with long statement sleeves, or very many white tops).

Have you tried a shorter necklace to fill in the V neckline? It would have to complement not compete with the zipper. Just a thought. Anyway I am going to copy that outfit-just FAB!

I love all of these - can’t really pick a favorite. I have purchased exactly one statement sleeve top for exactly this reason. It actually doesn’t seem to bother me, but I admit I looked at the seam with a thought of reducing the bell if it did.

I do love the chevron top, so I wonder if you could narrow the sleeve a bit. Or maybe elastic? Or a velvet or grosgrain ribbon to gather it in a bit.

From the pictures I am most drawn to the chevron one. It’s too bad that it didn’t work out as well as you’d hoped. How does everyone deal with all the statement sleeves that are so popular these days?

I added four dresses to my wardrobe this year. The black with gray/white scattered dots from Gudrun is really versatile and can be worn on hot and cold days. I wear legging in the summer or pair it with my Joes Jeans crop flares or Paige Hoxtons in fall/winter. Of the four, this was worn the most times. So far, I've only worn the COS navy shirtdress with the COS jumper. They work well together and I wear it with the same two pair of jeans as above to make a black and blue outfit. The black zipper dress has not been worn yet, although I like it with my black moto jacket and boots. It's a bit edgy for neighborhood gatherings but will work great for the artistic events we go to. The Free People chevron dress has been worn once - my granddaughter loved it on me, but when I looked photos later, I did not like the fit and flare + the statement sleeves were hard to control - flapping around and dropping into my dinner plate.
