NICE, and I hope you find a replacement for your skinnies.

bonnie, it feels fab to branch out with bottoms silhouettes, doesn't it. Sounds like you prefer a mid rise - me too. Onward 2018.

Suz: After reading your comment, I decided to wear the Rayners to the movies for another sit test. The theater we went to had those big reclining comfortable chairs so it wasn't a true test. What I did notice about the pants is that when I walked, they sort of flapped around my legs which was kind of irritating but maybe I could get used to it. DH said they looked good so I plan to give them another chance. I know what you are saying about the Paige Hoxtons. They fit me like leggings so I wear them with dresses and longer tops. I love the undone detail at the hem.

Sterling: The Gaps have had several chances and the stiffness of the fabric is not comfortable for my shape. You have lots of pants and I have lots of tops. I have so many that if I divide the number of tops I own into the days I will be wearing them, they each get three wears a year. Most were bought in the last three years and I like them all. I feel like I have more tops than anyone I know.

delurked: It is interesting that some people have more bottoms and others have more tops. I have 20 bottoms but wear the heck out of 10 of them while the other 10 get few or no wears.

cindy smith: What a lovely thing to say. I really enjoy your posts, too. I've taken a 8 month vacation from posting on YLF, but I checked in and read the blog and forum everyday.

Sterling - I doubt that is the case. I have more than many I’ve seen as well. Remember, you don’t prefer skirts/dresses, so that will also skew you pant count higher.

Analyses of pant capsules is my absolute favorite because I can learn so much for your experiences. My first thought is that your 2017 additions were really well thought out. I need to pay more attention to Angie's recommendations and pounce immediately. If I reflect too long on a purchase, my size is sold out. The Paige Hoxtons and the WHBM olive pants look and sound fabulous. I am so glad they worked for you.

My second thought is that high waisted pants are tricky. My eye has adjusted to the look, but several Forum Members have commented on the discomfort of wearing them all day. Perhaps fabric stiffness is the problem? I really like the Gap pants. Is there any way to make them work? Or is the discomfort too much to overcome?

My last thought is that "whoa, I own more pants than anyone else I know." This can't be good ....

I think skinny legs will be around for a long time to come. If real life is any indication, they are everywhere.

Interesting, Bonnie. I tried the Hoxtons but Nordstrom's sent the wrong version (without the interesting hems) and I actively loathed the way they felt! They may have been the wrong size, mind you. And, admittedly, I rarely enjoy wearing a super stretchy jean. Having said that, I just bought a very stretchy pair in leopard and love how they feel on the legs (very cozy and sleek without feeling too tight) .Alas, in the torso they make me feel like I have a distinct tummy pooch...and I don't, not really, or at least not a significant one!! To the point where I need to wear them with a longer untucked top and I keep wanting to tug at the waistband to make it bigger...

Meanwhile, I really like the Rayners and they are one of the few high-waisted pants I've been able to tolerate! Horses for courses, as Angie would say.

OTOH, I got those Gap pants (or similar) and sent them straight back for the exact reason you mention! They failed the sit test instantly!

delurked: I duplicated the ones I have that are on their last legs and it worked well for me. Mid rise is a good idea. With my high waist, they should fit like high rise.

Bonnie - it’s interesting about the higher waist pants. I also find some uncomfortable, but some are fine. And I also got those WHBM olive pants. They’ve already gotten a lot of wear in my closet. I think there are a lot of skinny jeans out there for you to find. Maybe start with one and duplicate if it proves to be a winner. Maybe try a mid rise first?

I started 2017 with six pair of skinny jeans, three pair leggings, three pairs of flare crops, and one pair of crepe pants. They have been working well for me for the past couple of years but I fear that they may soon need to be replaced. (Although frayed jeans are still stylish, mine were not that way when I bought them). In 2017, I added four pair of pants to my capsule. Two were Angie Picks and I love them. The Paige Hoxtons are said to have a high waist but I can wear them comfortably. Maybe the soft stretchy fabric makes the difference but they feel good and look great. The WHBM olive pants were a fun addition and I enjoy wearing them, too. The wide leg pants did not work as well for me. They both fit well, look great, and make cute outfits but I can not sit for any length of time in them. They are high waisted but so are the Paige jeans and I can wear them all day. I think the fabric of the Gap and JCrew wide leg jeans may be too stiff for me.

My 2018 goal for my pant capsule is to look for replacements for my beloved TB skinny jeans. I don't think they carry the same brand, so I will probably have to look elsewhere. I still like skinny jeans the best and hopefully they will be in style for the next few years.
