Thanks all, you have all been helpful.

My plan is to keep an eye open for tall boots on sale (we are in winter sale) that I will enjoy next winter and the balance of this. I will consider replacing the Mary Janes with a more current style - ideally that will work across seasons with hose and without. This might be an Okala style that look great on many forum members, or maybe a pointed flat.

While the right oxfords or loafers could be worn, as I work from home I can make do with what I have. In Mo's thread I discussed my priorities being a great handbag and flat sandals for summer, so along with tall boots that should be my priority. I know flat sandals and tall boots will both get good wear!!

The wonderful thing about being on this forum is I can see that brown/cognac tall boots will be popular next year so if I buy wisely I will be ahead of the game. I just have to be careful not to lust after too many new things:)

You have a well curated and thought out footwear collection. And I love those bone booties! They must bookend your hair very effectively.

I like the suggestions that others have given. I think it would be good to replace the Mary Janes with something you'll like better -- something a bit more current.

And then it is also good to ask what your needs are. Do you ever think things like, "Oh, if only I had a shoe like xyz this outfit would look so much better!"

I have a much colder climate where boots and booties are necessary for a lot of the year. For winter, I like to have at least one pair of booties in a dark neutral (for me, ink and/or black); one pair to more-or-less bookend my hair (doesn't have to be exact); one pair in a colour; (I have cranberry). Of these, it's great if at least one of them looks okay with skirts and dresses. If there is extra money, another style in a dark neutral and/or one in a pattern like snakeskin or a print is a brilliant way to go.

I don't really wear pumps but I would think the same way with them.

If by chance you end up ordering the ones I posted (and not a local pair), I will say that I agree with Nordstrom's assessment to order up half a size. The sizing is also somewhat inconsistent because the shoes are handcrafted. I ordered them in my regular size and then a half size up, and I would swear there is more than the usual difference in size between the two pairs. I called Frye and they told me that due to the handcrafting, there can be a lot of variation in sizes and that it is best to try them on at a store so that you can try several of the same size. Well, that's not possible for me, because my local Nordstrom does not stock them in-store, so I am ordering duplicates of the two sizes I previously ordered and will try them to see if I can get a better fit.

I don't know if the Okalas are flattering to an athletic calf. I have a pair in the nude, but I have chicken legs. They are quite pointy in the toe and so are leg lengthening, I find. Does that sound like it would be flattering to your body type?

If you are thinking about adding a pair of flats, you might like something similar to the Frye Reginas (I know you said you like to buy local, so I'll just attach the find so you have a visual). They seem to match the style of your other shoes—simple, and not overly feminine. I haven't worn flats for a long time, because I am short, but I am finding that with some outfits it works better proportion-wise to have a flat shoe. So I ordered the Fryes and will be trying them out. You might want to add some flats to your wardrobe just to have that variety.

Thanks, I want to only let in things I will love AND wear....

I saw some silver oxfords that were appealing but think I need to do so work on my style persona and current wardrobe first.

Are the Okala's flattering to a chunky calf?

Maybe replace the Mary Jane with ankle strap pointy toe heels (just tried some on and we're surprisingly comfy) , and if you walk a lot some more cute sneakers.

I'm clearly terrible at figuring out what shoe collections should look include, so I've got no advice! If it were me I'd replace the knee high boots first. Then I'd add something laced: oxfords or a laced ankle boot. But that's for my style!

I don't think you can go wrong with more booties - maybe a pair in a pattern (animal print or snakeskin), or a pair in your favourite non - neutral? Or both? :-)
As far as your shoes go, you could consider replacing the Mary Janes with an oxford, and maybe adding a pair of ankle strap pumps for dressier occasions. Something like the Okalas that many Fabbers have - they seem to dress up even the simplest jeans + tee outfit.

My first time to start a topic!

Here is my winter shoe wardrobe. The climate here is temperate, with no snow but a reasonable amount of rain and some frost. This is what I have at the moment. I may get some tall boots on sale for next year and/or some flats? Not sure what type of flats.

Pic 1. Boots.
Black chunky ankle boots, new this year, worn every second day.
Black refined ankle boots, high rotation for office days and with dresses. 4 years old.
Bone suede ankle boots, worn frequently. One yr old.
Tall tan boots, on last legs, about four years old. Good for rain and sports days when not wearing wet weather ones.

Pic 2. Heel height of boots.

Pic 3. Dressy shoes.
Blue evening sandals, not worn this year. 4 yrs old.
Bone sandals, often worn all year. 4 yrs old, thrifted.
Black peep toes, I year old, often worn.
Black Mary Jane, 5 years old, losing favour.
Black pointy toes, 14 years old, still love then.

Pic 4. Heel heights of shoes.

Pic 5. Casual sneakers, both two years old and well worn.

What would be a good addition to the wardrobe? I work from home most days, I have muscular/ chunky calves and slim ankles. I live in NZ and prefer to buy locally so I am not after a specific brand, more just a style.

Thank you!

Phew;)
