They actually use the real original hem. There are two ways I've seen it done: one is to reattach it with some kind of invisible seam and the other way is such that no material is cut, sort of just folded and hemmed inside, so you could let them down again. There's a tutorial for the second way here:
http://www.daciaray.com/?p=38

Oh, and I measured my white jeans the knee too. It's 15 " there as well, so it could be that the fit is wash dependent.

Hmmm....I don't think they actually reattach the hem, do they? I think they just mimic the hem that is already there to make it look the same (I could be wrong though, I've wondered that myself).

Patience, thanks for the tip on the JBrand Cigarette jeans. I really want to get the Lapis color Tanya posted earlier.

I agree with the hemming, pocket removal (esp if you're going to wear them with shorter tops), and the shorter tops look good, but the longer tops are smashing!

Here's a question though--how do they reattach original hems on jeans? I don't have this done by the mother because I had never heard of it until recently. I am assuming she'd need special equipment to do it. It may be worth it for me to have them professionally altered, esp. considering I don't pay for any other alterations.

Tanya, I LOVE the skinnies on you! There is a definitely a part of me that would love to have a 20 pair jean collection.

Heads up to anyone else interested in the jbrand cigarette style: I'm wondering if the leg opening and knee opening size varies slightly by color. I have them in ink and they are definitely 14." Also, for those who are concerned about their thighs in skinnies as I am, I'm beginning to think the knee opening size is just as important if not more so than the ankle opening. A too tight knee seems to accentuate my thighs in a less flattering way so that I'm only willing to do tunics. 14" at the knee is probably my minimum for skinnies with shorter tops. You'd think that 14" ankle would mean 14" knee and it usually does but not always.

Thank you very much Angie! I'm glad I don't have to take in the tunic - one alteration less on my ever growing pile of things to be altered! I'll probably wear it belted most of the time.

Yay Tanya! Happy you found white skinnies. They’re superb. Here’s my 2 cents worth:

1.	Have pockets sewn shut.
2.	No need to reattach original hem.
3.	Have them shortened and commit to a length. Although you won’t need to. You can probably wear the hemmed length with heels too. The hems are still too narrow to skim the surface of the ground.
4.	AMAZING! I adore the turquoise tunic with the white skinnies! It’s elegant, modern, practical, comfortable and fun. Bet it matches your pretty blue eyes which we have not had the pleasure of seeing yet! I like the volume. I think it’s a newer look for you and it’s still tailored enough to see your microscopic waistline. No need to take it in on my account. Love the way it looks belted. So chic!
5.	OF COURSE you can wear a shorter top with skinnies. You look great.

Thanks ladies!

The probable outcome (would like Angie's opinion as well ):the pockets are going, and the jeans are getting hemmed without the original hem. The tunic is also getting taken in. All we need now is a consensus on whether to wear them with shorter top or not!

Ana, these are J Brand 14" Cigarette leg. I have posted dark ones for Shiny before, but here they are again:

I LOVE these skinnies! I am definitely investing in a dark wash pair. Which "model" are they again?

1. I agree with Aisha--if you won't miss the pockets I'd have them removed.

2. & 3. Agree with Aisha again--one length (if they hang straight I bet it looks very clean and chic) and the original hem thing probably isn't worth the money on white skinny jeans.

4. I had my NY&Co tunic just like that taken in at the back darts, and 2 front darts put into it as well. I had to go up a size to fit my shoulders though, so it was very loose everywhere else. When I belted it there was a lot of extra fabric, similar to what you have going on, which (personal taste) I'm not a fan of. I like a cleaner line. Honestly, it cost me about $35.00 to have it taken in (almost as much as the shirt) but I really like the shirt and couldn't find anything really similar that didn't have tiny puff sleeves, so I bit the bullet. I really like it though and I will be able to wear it for a long time here because it is warm. You might want to take that into consideration when thinking about getting it taken in. They will probably take it in at the back darts and sides for you (since you don't need to take it in that much), so it may not cost as much as it did for me.

4. Love the J. Crew blouse with the white skinnies. I've seen the blouse in person so I know what colors it is and I bet it looks even better than in the photo (which still looks great, by the way).

Hi Tanya!
And the answers!
1. While the pockets are shallow, I would probably still get them removed. It just gives a cleaner line.

2&3. I would probably have the pants hemmed and commit to one-length. You are right, the scrunching does look a bit awkward. And as for orginal hem, I dont' think there is any problem with not preserving the original hem with the white jeans given that you dont' have a distinct hem look on the original jean.

4. For the tunic, are you planning on ever wearing it unbelted or only belted? If you are only planning on wearing it belted, I think it is fine as is, but if you want the option to wear it unbelted as well, I would have it taken in a bit. By the way, it looks amazing belted...you have such a tiny waist!!

5. You have such a cute figure that even with the shorter top, you still look great...but I think you get such a long lean line with the longer tunic that I would probably wear the jeans with a longer-length top

Cute jeans Tanya!

I have finally received my exchanged white J Brand 14" skinnies today, and I really like them, but they need some alterations. First, the leg opening is actually 15", so they fit like straight-legs more than skinnies, especially on my chicken calves. For those who were considering getting them in dark denim, the other measurements (on size 26) are: front rise 8.5", back rise 13", and inseam 35".

Here's a photo:
http://s300.photobucket.com/al.....2620377879

And the questions:

1. The pockets show trough a bit, but since they are shallow, it's not nearly as bad as on my other white ones. Would you still remove them?

2. Hemming: because of the leg opening width, they look a bit silly scrunched (compare the right leg- scrunched with the left one- folded under). Should I have the tailor take the width under the knee an inch in and them hem them juts a little so that I can wear them scrunched? Or should I just wear them as is width-wise but commit to one length for hemming (either flats or 1" mini-wedge)?

3. Hemming part 2- is it necessary to do the whole original hem thing with the white jeans, since the material is uniform and there is no distinct hem look like on the denim jeans?

4. Wearing them with the turquoise NY&Co tunic unbelted and belted:
http://s300.photobucket.com/al.....CN2973.jpg
http://s300.photobucket.com/al.....2620839425
Do I need to have the tunic taken in at the sides?

5. Finally, can I get away wearing these jeans with a shorter tops like my J Crew blouse or should I stick to longer tops?
http://s300.photobucket.com/al.....CN2975.jpg

Thank you very much in advance!
