Irina - that’s a great idea. I have not been b&m since Covid hit. But when things really calm down I will call and see if they are still doing that.
Angela - that was an amazing stroke of luck. I went to a guy offering custom suits for relining jackets and alterations and was seriously unimpressed. Sometimes you need to be lucky. Glad you have someone great!!
Angie - Thank you so much. Wishing you, Greg, Sam and Jo a wonderful healthy, happy, safe, prosperous and drama free 2022!!! Linus and Sabrina send your pups love and licks. They wish the many squeaky toys and yummy treats in the new year!!

Gryffin, thank you very much for being an AWESOME healthcare hero, a disciplined yet relaxed soul, and for your ongoing positive influence on those around you. Your strength, wisdom and stamina are incredible and greatly appreciated! ROCK ON!

My condolences on the loss of your uncle, and good luck with MIL. It's all very stressful, and I empathize.

I hope you find all the right clothing replacements, and have fun in the process! Wishing you and your tribe a safe, peaceful and healthy 2022. Sam and Jo send tail wags and happy barks to Sabrina and Linus! :)

Initially I went to a tailor close to where I live for easy alterations, but after he almost ruined a favorite blouse, I started looking elsewhere. Honestly, I just lucked out. I used Google Maps to look up tailors, chose one who lives close by a friend's house, and went to her. She turned out to be incredible. In my first meeting with her she was suggesting alterations and it was clear that she was very competent and thought a lot about how to make clothes look better. I've started taking lots of clothes to her, every week or every other week, either for a simple fix or for more extensive alterations. For example, earlier this summer I bought a pleated linen skirt that looked terrible on me. It just made me look fat. She offered to alter it into a simple A-line skirt -- since the skirt had so much fabric, it was easy for her to do so. And now I have a unique skirt that I like very much. She charges very reasonably too, which makes it possible for me to take so much work to her.

Griffin, I tried a number of tailors over the years. The best I found when I bought a dress from our local Nordstrom. They allow to bring non Nordstrom items for alterations, sometimes it costs more but still reasonable. I find that more expensive department stores have experienced tailors since they work on the pricier items.

Angela - Thank you. I have had blazers altered in the past, and other than hemming a sleeve, I've found the alterations very expensive and narrowing shoulders can be a disaster because they have to literally take the jacket apart. Your tailor must be incredible!! But any easy fix that is certainly the way to go. Kudos for you to making that work out. I did buy the zarita gown and will need over a foot hacked off the hem, but that is an easy fix, so I will be excited to have that done when the pandemic calms down. How is you find your incredible tailor? Was it word of mouth? Website? Most of the great ones work in fine mens stores and don't take private work in our area.

You sound like you made amazing changes and I'm so happy they worked so well for you and your husband, Gryffin. As someone whose weight easily fluctuates a lot, I've had to develop some strategies. Do you have a tailor you can go to? A tailor can alter pieces for you, and going a size down should be an especially easy change for them to make. It's actually easier for them to size down than to size up.

Lyn - thank you so much. I hope you are able to source some of your beloved pieced. Sometimes it’s meant to be. Getting the Zarita in the long length is pretty much impossible. The forces of destiny are strange but sometimes wonderful!!!
Cat - I’m sure your friend had some incredible stories. We were reduced to trawling eBay at 4x the price for masks and I still need them to source gloves. I feel like a WWII spy going to the black market. I always feel like I need a black trench, buttoned up with the collar popped and a black fedora. Crazy times for sure.
Sarah - you are incredible sweet. Many, many thanks!! IKR if you can’t or at least don’t want to live without it then that’s saying something. The caveat is if you can box up a new purchase it should go back. If OTOH you take it into protective custody and are ready to fight all comers than it stays.
Robin - thanks so much. Wishing you a wonderful start to 2022 surrounded by the best and most loved pieces in your wardrobe!!
Lynn - thanks so very much. Kudos to you for your service. I hope you look back on your practice with well deserved pride and satisfaction. There is truly nothing like a service profession even during the challenging times and I’m sure you have many stories to tell. Wishing you health, safety, peace, happiness and all good now and always! Yours in lysol and purell!!

gryffin thank you for the hard work you have been doing to help keep us all safe. I am sorry for the losses you've suffered but I'm glad you've come through with your health, thoughtfulness & humor intact.

Thanks so much for your contributions during this pandemic. I am so grateful to every medical professional who has had to figure out how to, in addition to doing their usual challenging jobs, protect us all. A dear friend is a dentist and took me through the challenges and expense of essentially setting up clean rooms on the fly. We have been in such great hands.

Thanx for this thread. I cannot add anything more to all it's been already said, just that I am touched by and admire both of your's and DH's strength, courage and perseverence in your trully essential field but not less in your private lives, too- during all the crazyness of the pandemic has done to us. Hats off!
Also, am particulary amazed _and happy for you- that you managed to rebuy your wardrobe's oldie but goodie pieces-all in a size down(i sometimes would love to be able doing the same with some of my beloved clothes). It really shows you have a rocket strong and well working personal style-how great a thing this is.

Ummlila - you looked amazing in the babaton! The zarita also comes in white which I think would look stunning on you. Read the reviews, the DVF does run small, I sized up two sizes initially, then needed one size up and it's quite fitted. The regular will end at mid thigh, the "long" which was not widely available hits about the knee, just so you know. It's a really fun elegant dress that can go up or down and very comfortable to wear. I hope you find one!! There are other colors so GL!! Hope you are enjoying the emersons the blue ridge wash is in a class by itself, although I have 3 other variants. If you can find the embroidered pair, they are really fun.

As always, I'm following along with your wardrobe choices closely (thanks again for the Baboon Slouch coat recommendation; bought the Emersons I was considering) and I'm off to look for a Zarita dress.

Cardiff girl - as much as it’s been and continues to be super scary having to interface with people, we were blessed we were still able to do our jobs. I feel so much for the kids in school, the elderly, people who lost jobs or are struggling with isolation. But I think trying to focus on positive changes within our control, doing work we hope is valuable, and being truly grateful for all our blessings made it easier for us than so many others. Maybe I needed to rebuy to almost “stick tight”. Just not let go and soldier on. Interesting. I need to think about that.

Stays fit - thank you. Yes it’s a very interesting question because I’d imagine most people would celebrate being able to get something new. It would be fascinating to know if anyone else would want to do that and why?
Janet - everyone enjoys different things but for sure we all want to eat! However it works for you is good. I’m intrigued by meal services. That’s cool you like them. Being vegan I’m very interested in sprinley but tbh batch cooking works well for me. But if. Needed to supplement it would be cool to try them.

Gryffin, I just confess that my cooking skill has mainly been acquired through a Blue Apron subscription, LOL. Is that awfully lame? But it has allowed me to learn basic, easy techniques and gain confidence so that I am now more comfortable with just googling recipe ingredients and then improvising from there. In fact I did that for our very simple Christmas Eve and Christmas dinners, and they were both big hits (just hubs and me so the stakes were low!). (Xmas eve was crab cakes with roasted Brussels sprouts with a fig-walnut glaze and garlic roasted potatoes; Xmas day was ham with shallot green beans and mashed potatoes, so really basic stuff)

I have cookbooks that I never seem to reach for. I’m not much of a meal planner, and perhaps I should be. I also don’t care to be in the kitchen for more than an hour to cook and clean. Easy and quick recipes are the best — I just need to focus more on recipes with healthy easy-to-source ingredients that are delicious enough to encourage us to do more of them! I very much admire what you and your husband have accomplished!

Gryffin, when I saw your post, I laughed because I had the opposite experience with my weight this year. Kudos to you and your husband for using the chaos of 2021 as motivation to take positive action for your health and also for your community! It’s great that you were able to find duplicates of favorite wardrobe items. I am left wondering which pieces in my wardrobe I would want to duplicate if I lost enough weight or gained enough weight to require replacement clothing? It’s an interesting question that forces deep and clear consideration of the key elements that influence personal style.

Brooklyn - thank you sweet girl. I don’t see you as a rebuyer. You are much too creative. A true artist. It’s like the opening lines of Lillian Hellman’s Pentimento “to see and see again”. It’s such an expression of who you are. Ok course signatures that are iconic to you, even the supporting essentials I can see you replacing exactly out of love or because they are perfect support acts. But I like to imagine you continuously evolving and becoming. I’m an “enduring classic” I like think that go a long distance, even with the patina of use and age, the survivors. Also “still” as in continuing but also unmoving that change is more incremental and evolution takes longer as much as life modifying the individual piece and well as modifying me, if that makes any sense
Vildy - Thank you so much. It’s difficult to find what works for me. I was so fortunate to source so much. Thank god for discount and resale. I could not have afforded as much at the original price.

Gryffin, congratulations on achieving your health goals while also doing important and stressful service to the community during these difficult times. You are an inspiration. I am so impressed that you have your style so finely tuned that you just wanted to restock the same items again.
All the best to you in 2022 and thank you for your insightful, articulate and positive contributions to this forum.

Sun tiger - thank you so much. Wishing you a wonderful safe new year!
Kkards - wishing you all the best now and always.
Carol - you’re a total sweetheart. My best to you in 2022 and beyond as the adventure continues. Who know where it will take us!! When I visited Hawaii (a lifetime ago) we saw those two types of lava - the aa (slowwwww) and pahoehoe (like a molten river). I’m “aa”. I think change comes slowly and organically to me but requires time. So rebuying made sense and unbelievably I was able, for the most part to do it. Certainly I don’t think it would be desirable for most, but for me it was perfect.
Lisa - you are a total hero. A large space, interior, uncontrolled crowd, mask droop, lousy masks, unknown vaccination status - that is absolute heroic. Pay can’t compensate or negate that. You are awesome and like every other essential worker you are a hero every single day. It’s a “go to heaven, direct to heaven” in say 100 yr because you’ll be so healthy!! I don’t think of food as fuel (that’s so cold sounding). I think is food as nourishment. To love your body so much you give it delicious feasts for the eyes and body, but making sure it has everything it needs to flourish and heal. I try to see it as self care and self love so it’s an act of tenderness and joy but not a chore. I do admire all the steps you’ve taken to nurture yourself. Transitions are always challenging - hoping you find your place of peace and joy in 2022!!

Irina - thank you so much. Ikr it’s the stuff you sometimes don’t get and should. But never fear, sometimes those pieces pop up later in pristine form, so never stop looking!!! On my hunt I actually found the DVF Zarita gown in my size. It was way too expensive when available and would not have seen enough use. But ok and behold perfect and pristine other than the fact I’ll need it shortened by about a foot. So you never know. Wishing you a new year of health, prosperity and joy.
Janet - you are always such a sweetheart!! Yes let’s rock silver highlights together. That’s awesome that you are cooking. Have you seen Gina Hamshaw’s cookbook, Power Plates? Great recipes. There are lots of easy and delish recipes. PM me if you need suggestions. I don’t think I have ever cooked so much, other than the holidays. Also drfuhrman.com has some free recipes. Check the reviews. Lots of good and luscious things to make.

Hi Gryffin- what an equally uplifting and inspirational post to read ! You are a testament to knowing your own style and having the right clothes for your lifestyle . I can’t even conceive of being in such a place that I’d want to replicate the clothes I already have - I’m quite in awe of this !

As to your health and wellness journey - yes! I’d expect nothing less from a medical professional ;). I relate to all of it, and while my changes and upgrades were a little less dramatic , I firmly believe more than ever that food is fuel , and that we owe it to ourselves to know as much about that as we can . Today I’m sitting at the reception desk of our huge facility while a quiet few regulars go through their daily workouts , with fear of Omicron keeping many away . I’m getting thanked for being here by those who know that movement and weight bearing exercise is critical - even though my answer is “ double time and a half is what is keeping me here today lol!

I have been among the very lucky to have been able to stay sheltered at home during this pandemic, and I have immense respect for you and DH taking the steps to protect yourselves in the very best way you can and putting yourselves out there to support your community.

I am in awe that your wardrobe was in such a great place that you wanted to replicate it in your new size. And hurray to you for being able to source the pieces.

Wishing you health and happiness in 2022.

Well done, and thank you for being a shining light for others during this time.

I can relate only to your point about giving up hair coloring — that and learning to cook may be the most positive things I’ve done during the pandemic.

Outstanding! You and your husband are truly outstanding people! You are taking care of others while improving our own health - your determination and resilience are so admirable!
You replaced no longer fitting clothes with the exact items in a different size and it is a testament to the careful and very selective wardrobe building. It is much more difficult to hunt some pieces than to buy something new. I have tried to find some clothes that I regretted not buying and gave up for my lack of patience. So, I appreciate your resolve.
Wishing you and your family safe and healthy new year!
