I like those; they look perfect for hot summer. Do you find that the Lou & Grey pieces run a bit smaller than other LOFT fits?

I usually don't like banded or elastic hems either but I did get a pair of tencel cargo joggers at anthro and they are nice and light and very comfortable. Not a typical style for me but fun to mix things up a bit. They do wrinkle but I'm ok with that for casual pants.

I am so glad you wrote this post. As I mentioned in other posts, I look to you for advice on dressing. I ordered two pairs of pants from Nordstroms that are similar to your suggestion. These are the exact colors. I have a weird love of navy/white stripes. I know I will them every chance I get. And red, not so sure about the red, but .....

Texstyle - I already had the athleta ones on my radar, and tried the regular length in store when I was near one traveling. I decided to order the tall, which I received today. I wasn't quite sure when I got them, but think as I kept them on for a bit they will work out well. I'll do one more try on tomorrow to make sure. My debate is between the regular length I didn't get and the tall I have now.

And based on your discussion of the loft pants, I ordered two sizes of them. I kept the smaller size in black. I do wish they were a bit shorter in the rise, but find them quite flattering through the leg. The larger ones were way too long in the rise, contributing to what I have always called the "thigh grab". Guessing there might be another term for that ;)

As to the front ties, I also wish athleta didn't have them on everything. When I wore the loft pants, I actually tucked the tie inside. I never tuck shirts in though, so don't think it will be too big an issue.

Thanks for the recos. Think I'm all set for summer pants now. I will still be keeping an eye out for one pair of shorts, and possibly an easy knit skirt. I tried the Bermuda linen athleta shorts, and although they fit, they were meh and will be returned. Otherwise for summer, I am still looking for a few knit tees with some detail or interest, and maybe one knit dress to complete my summer wardrobe, which is obviously my dominant season. It is already 90* here.

I haven't ordered from Loft Canada. There's a store in Toronto that I have purchased from.

Tex, I had the same problem making peace with the elastic waist of my J. Crew linen pants. Yet they're fabulous for summer and I have figured out how to disguise it and/or live with it.

lisap, I haven't ordered from Loft Canada. There was a dress I really loved there last year. I had it in my basket, but by the time they calculated duty (even though they price in CDN$ it still gets shipped from the US, and shipping it was way too expensive- even on sale! I happened to be near the Loft in Hamilton the following week and got the same dress way cheaper than the pre-duty advertised price online!

I wish they had more Loft stores here!

Lou & Grey was my go-to for casual linen pants last summer. I have some green foldover pull on pants that are so comfortable I almost want to cry when I wear them.

I enjoyed seeing the two pairs of casual pants Angie showcased today.

I really love the similar linen ankle pants I got last year from Athleta -even though I had trouble at first being okay with the tie at the waist. I think the deep navy color is perfect to hiding wrinkles and creases. Also, I ended up buying 2 other pants from Loft that had a tie waist. These are super soft twill cotton and lighter to wear than jeans - not to mention they don't wrinkle badly. I wear all three of these happily now as a great alternative to jeans or other pants.

Other notes: I don't like an elastic band or any band at the ankle for myself so I opted for pants that didn't have that feature. The pockets seem to lay flat for me on all three of these.
