Joy, thank you for that! It still feels like a lot because of how sparse my wardrobe was last summer. But it's not gobs, so true. I think I will be greatly reducing or removing poly in the summer. It is definitely a sweat inducer for me.

Your new summer things got more than one photo each. You do not have as much new as you thought. Not too much. Let the dresses go. I only wear polyester when it is cold because it is so warm. Non in the summer.

Lisa let me know what you think! There are quite a lot of brands available now. I have only tried a brand from Shapermint so far.

My pair of skimmers can be a bit warm due to the nylon, polyester and Lycra blend. (They claim to be cooling and wicking but I’m not 100% sold on that claim.) There are cotton blend bike shorts, but those wear out fast for me; they can also be more clingy under certain fabrics.

Sometimes I use Monistat anti chafe powder gel. Have you tried that? It’s really awesome and works well, though wears off after an hour or two. It’s not as convenient as skimmers. (Have to pack it and reapply wherever you’re at.) But it’s really nice!

Ket - Skimmer shorts under dresses for thigh chafe is a great idea! I'll have to remember that for dresses in the future.

Star, oh we can be summer wardrobe twins With your gorgeous hair, you're going to rock the oranges and olives. I guess it feels like a lot to me because the past few years I felt so limited to explore style during health stuff. Still feeling quite cautious but dipping my toe into abundance and joy a tiny bit (or wardrobe) at a time :)

Cookie, I'm really excited to wear the print dresses this summer I am going to try wearing the olive skirt and see how it goes. I've also wondered if it's ultimately the style note the color bugging me? Wearing it will tell me more hopefully! And yes to clothes holding bad memories. I don't remember too many clothes prior to this having bad memories. Bootcut jeans in general sometimes do (a wardrobe staple during a very tough time of life). But these dresses really do. I will definitely be boxing up or passing them on.

Angie, thank you so much! I forget that olive is a neutral. That's so helpful. I think I need to focus on some essentials next... so hard for me. The fun pieces are easier, even though I wear essentials to death. :}

Looking cohesive and very YOU, Ket :)

You love wearing olive because it matches your stunning eyes! It's a versatile neutral for your style, so that doubly makes sense.

Always good to have the right wardrobe ESSENTIALS to go with patterned statements.

I'll be back.....got to run!

Looking good! I just love those two print dresses. I think the olive skirt is fantastic and will look good with most of the tops shown and even the kimono. And it is more than reasonable to want something other than sweats for your daily rounds!

I am well familiar with the phenomenon of clothes that hold bad memories. It may be worth packing them away if not passing them on.

Lisa, I never thought of myself as a dress girl but… I obviously am, seeing my current summer wardrobe! Dresses really are one and done, so speedy. Only thing I do like to add are skimmer shorts to avoid thigh chafe. But still, very easy. I think I was worried it was too many dresses. But it might end up being just perfect so I can rotate more.

So appreciate you sharing your larger wardrobe experience. I feel happier with a larger wardrobe too. More freedom and joy for sure! The capsule (i.e, only F pieces version) and minimal wardobes just make me feel frustrated.

I LOVE graphic tees! I don’t own many, but I love them. Yet I can understand wanting to liven up a uniform and have some variety. I’ve loved your recent thrift finds and outfits, so can’t wait to see your summer looks

Your summer wardrobe is shaping up nicely! If I was a dress girl I would definitely have dresses in my summer wardrobe, they add some feminine flair, are 1 and done dressing, and just as cool in the heat as shorts and a t-shirt.

I completely understand not being satisfied with a minimal sized wardrobe. I tried one for years and it never worked, I always had wardrobe creep until I realized I like more variety and needed a larger wardrobe. I may not wear my items as often in a season, but my happiness factor is much higher with a larger wardrobe.

Last year I had a formula of graphic tees and shorts for summer. We have long, hot summers and while I like graphic tees, I craved a little more variety. This year I am going to try some linen shirts and a few other silhouettes with my shorts. Although I will still wear graphic tees too.

Agree with Suz about letting go of the dresses either for bad associations or bad material. Looking forward to the accessories and the outfits!

Thank you, Sarah! I love enabling, so I gladly accept your enabling. We have a very short summer up in the mountains. Probably all of 10-12 weeks, and an occasional warm early September. And yet, I love having an expansive summer wardrobe too. Super good reminder about laundry and wear! I hadn't thought of that, but you're so right.

I am going to try letting go of the dresses. It feels very weird or hard to let go of them. There was so much loss and suffering and it's almost like... dare I let them go? Is it really a new season? Yet, I want to let go and move on. It's oddly emotional for clothing. Thank you for the comforting boost to let them go <3

Oh Suz, thank you <3 your words are full of so much encouragement and great ideas!

I think I’m going to find a replacement kimono. And I definitely would love to find another bomber jacket. That jacket was one of my favorites and was surprisingly flattering on me. (I don’t usually do well with round collar or collarless jackets.)

I just needed to hear it was okay to let the dresses go. So thank you <3

We live in a very dry climate. And yet, poly still feels hot on days where it’s 85-95F and the sweat is dripping down my back. I think I’ll save one just so I can use it as a pattern or until I find a similar sewing pattern. I really love the curved hem and v-neck they have.

I think the proposed tops would work well with the olive skirt. (It’s actually almost a cross between olive and wasabi—it’s got some brightness to it.) However, I feel like a tree costume when wearing olive green with brown. Idk why either lol! I know many people mix browns and greens. A kimono would work very well with the skirt; it has that vibe. Ivory and cream tops would work well with the skirt. I’m also wondering if a denim/chambray shirt would work with it? That’s another piece I really miss in my closet.

What a wonderful and cohesive collection of items!

Personally I like to have an expansive summer wardrobe (well ok I like an expansive wardrobe in general it turns out -- but in summer it's disproportionate to the actual duration of the weather) because sun/sweat/sunscreen mean more laundry bottlenecks and more wear on pieces. Your collection here looks positively modest. /enabling

I agree with Suz's advice to let go of the dresses that remind you of hard times. These are also not exactly unusual garments. If you want something similar in the future I'm sure you'll be able to find it, as illustrated by the navy cami dress you've just purchased.

Your summer wardrobe is shaping up really well! I really like the olive items you have ordered and think they'd be terrific for you if the fit is to your liking. If you wore your floral kimono topper a lot and it is showing its age, then a replacement could be a really good bet. It can be versatile to have a printed topper in summer if you are wearing a plain tank and pants/ shorts/ skirt. I also like the idea of a linen bomber for you if you have need of a light topper.

Let the gauze flutter sleeve dresses and the tee dresses go. They remind you of unhappy times, and you have fresher alternatives now. You might hang on to the poly one in holding zone temporarily. But poly really is hard to wear in humid weather. so...

Re the olive skirt...would any of the tops you are considering go with this? Would the right kimono topper work with it?

I've really been beefing up my summer wardrobe for this season, so I thought I would share about it here. Long post ahead,

My summer wardrobe last year was meager. and consisted of all of 8-10 items and a pair of sandals. Most would be content with that. And I want to be content. Yet, honestly? I love MORE! I felt a bit limited. Also, having less clothes I reverted to wearing a lot of sweats unless running errands. I don't mind sweats, but not sure if that was best for daily joy?

It is fun finding some new things to wear this summer! I forgot how much I enjoyed clothes shopping haha

Holes:

Lots of prints, less solids/neutrals. Heavy on dresses and bottoms. Could use some basic tops maybe?? Eyeing two very basic tanks, an off-shoulder number to fill this hole, see photos 9-10 and 15-16.

Olive! One color I’m desperately missing for summer is olive. I really love wearing olive in the summer; not sure why. I have ordered a deep olive top and pair of pants to try out (photos 1-4). Will post when they arrive.

Topper. Would also like to find just the right summer jacket/sweater to go with everything. I’ve worn my brown maxi cardigan to pills and snags. I adore it so I’ll keep wearing it, but wondering about another topper? I also have a beautiful floral print kimono but it's got a lot of wear; replacing it would be good. My olive military jacket feels a bit off-trend though. I used to have a linen bomber jacket that I really miss. Maybe another bomber jacket? Any ideas??

Items yet to buy that I need:

Second pair of sandals

Lower-height wedges (maybe)

Summer purse of some kind

Decorative belt in neutral medium color (not black)

Strapless bra

Cabana Dress. LOVETH this dress to pieces. That is all.

Floral Sweetheart Neck Bubble Short Sleeve Midi Dress. Purchased in late fall last year .I’ve never let summer keep me from wearing dark colors tbh.

Photos 15-16 Eyelet sleeveless top. (awaiting order to arrive.) A bit more boho but still very feminine. Cotton and should be very breezy.

Photos 17-18 Navy cami dress (awaiting order to arrive). Lyocell fabric with cotton lining. I had two dresses similar this 10-15 years ago the I adored. This was on clearance so thought I would try it again.

Items Unsure About Keeping (see Finds below):

Gauze Flutter Sleeve Dresses. (Only showing one color, but own three of them.) Placing in hold box for now. I wore these a lot during the bulk of my health issues. Just thinking about wearing these dresses makes me remember the same time period. They’re lovely dresses, super soft and comfortable cotton gauze, so lovely in summer. Yet, I’m not sure I can bring myself to wear them.

Maxi T-shirt Dresses. (Only showing one color, but own three of them.) Placing in hold box for now. Same issue as gauze dresses. I can see myself copying the dress and sewing a new dress in same style as it's very comfy and can be styled super cool.

Twisted Copper Stripe Dress. See it in action here. I love the dress and it fits my current va-voom vibes. However, it's 100% polyester and it can be hot in heat, despite the thin material. I didn't wear it hardly at all last summer. Might see if this can be styled for autumn/ winter looks?? I’m thinking of layering it with a chocolate turtleneck underneath for a slight ‘70s vibe… Not dumping it but not sure yet how it fits.

What do you all think? I almost feel I've now overdone my summer wardrobe. :O

How are YOUR summer wardrobes shaping up?

xo

P.S. I will share accessories in another post or with WIW posts. This post is already lengthy.
