Thanks, ladies, and it’s fun to see your summer top solutions too!

It’s funny, I love the knotted/tied front tops because they are a little shorter than normal tees, which are always a bit long on me — in fact, I frequently do my own little side knot on regular tees to help adjust the length a bit and define the waist. Even though my waist line is not what it once was, sigh!

I'm all with you here, LisaP. Knoted tops are a good idea, but always too short on me! Very very sad, but shorts and a tee will never look good on me (I DO wear some tees but not with shorts!:-))-and polo necks even worse, will always make me look"staff"-like my DD pointed me out. I probably don't have the body, the talent, to style them or just don't have the good brands or items themselves?

But I have now discovered a new type of a top which is forgiving on midsection/curvier bust/upper arms, is longer-to almost hips, has some texture and will go with crops and culotte, too. Love the fake button downs in a neutral/natural color)-adding a vertical line down the front-which is slimming. Will try to add a link to one later. I wear them like only in nr 1, but can be worn off the shoulder style-but then I am too bare& looks wider and longer on me.

And, I always love me cowl neck on tees or a mix media top(front is woven, back is a tee knit) like upgrade from a tee. In uni color say with epaulettes on shoulders, etc.

Janet, you have a great collection of summer tees and tops that work perfectly with your style. Our summers are hot and humid as well but we also have the invasion of the insects in the warm weather. I am dreading it. People wear bug shirts (you probably don't know what they are) to walk down the streets.

I wear basic tees and denim shirts in the summer. I do have a couple of stylized tees but they are not in finds. I usually duplicate my cream and ivory tees.

An enviable collection, Janet. If it is hot and high humidity, I want sleeveless and woven fabrics. Nylon mesh is my favorite. Next is silk or linen. I also try to have some sort of summer topper for every outfit, but the ability to remove it and still look good is important to me.

What a great collection, Janet! My go-to summer tops tend to be basic crew neck solid color tees, duped in multiple colors (navy, olive, daffodil, blush, emerald). I have an obligatory rock tee and Star Wars tee.

I have a couple of print tops and sleeveless tops I bought early last year, but didn't wear (not sure why, but I suspect it's the polyester...). The navy print Gap tee has a low back and a tie neck, and was worn a LOT last year. It's similar in cut to my (favorite) pleated green one - both were thrifted last spring and may only last another season, maybe two. I love the boat neck, breezy fit, and welted hem; I'm not seeing similar styles in retail.

Nice collection! Hmm, it is hot and humid here, and south Florida and NYC where I will be this summer. I have never found t-shirts to be my best solution though. I feel they cling and stick on me. Silk or linen sleeveless tops are my preference. I just thrifted a Uniqlo linen button down sleeveless top and I have the feeling it is going to be the ticket. I plan to test it tomorrow when it is supposed to rise above 100F!

Oh, ladies, this is a major problem for old "girls" like me. I hate the heat, but cannot avoid it and the humidity here in the NYC area. And I need sleeves to cover my upper arm flab and to wear a bra, so the wonderful, interesting necklines are usually a no-no. But simple tees are so boring at this point.

Any ideas?

All I want is to be able to wear a white or black t with shorts and a belt and look good . Seriously . I don’t need to win the lottery , I just need to be able to wear super-casual summer clothes and not look like a fat rag bag . UGH ! I think I’ll order the Madewell t Lisa posted , and duplicate it if it works . I am finding that many of these knotted front tops are too short in front - or the knot sits up too high . I don’t know what my problem is , but summer clothes befuddle me . Anthro yielded nothing on recent trip , same at BR and Gap . I have some cute woven tops for summer for social occasions /drinks / dinners out etc , but for casual , I’m still searching for that unicorn . I envy you your ability to wear T-shirts so well , Janet!

You have a nice collection Janet and I should look to this for some ideas as I suspect many would also work for me.

My summer tops are quite utilitarian at the moment - they are all in the finds with 7 being in the dark navy/black category. I never seem to like white tees or blouses on me very much.....Three of these tops are almost worn out after a lot of wear - all five plus years old.

Some are a bit more work oriented (the tie neck patterned blouse) and some are very much weekend house (the red blue and white striped tee).

My most worn are the plain black low scoop tee and the black and white striped tee.

My favourite is the floral blouse with the abstract red flowers.

I bought a bunch last year because we had unusually large stretches of hot weather, and failing airco at work. Sleeveless is key, freed armpits make all the difference for me ;), as well as open toed sandals. I like linen and modal for breathability (but not the ironing, as suz rightly points out). I should think I’m also set for this year: typically we have so few truly hot days that I hardly even get to wear all my sleeveless stuff more than once. End of May and we’ve had one week tops. We’ll see :).

Here is my collection of summer tees. The two BR tees are new and I wear them with a topper but the rest can be worn on their own with shorts and crops. The graphic tees and white henley are old but I still pull them out on the hottest days. I love your Anthro plaid tie front tee.

Some of my tees only make it one year, due to pit stains or getting a hole around where they rub my jeans button (hopefully my new habit of tucking everything changes that?) but I do have one cool open-back gray tee that's probably my favorite of all time that was from Mossimo at Target, probably isn't even all cotton, and seems to be indestructible! A good thing, because I love it too much.

I am not sure what I will rely on most in my new climate. But in our hot humid unairconditioned Kingston summers (albeit not as hot and humid or long as your Baltimore ones!!) I used to wear wovens as often as I could. It does mean a lot of ironing in summer, though. :)

I'm loving those tie-front tops, Janet. Their blousy-ness will be a cool option for the hot summer weather.

You have a great collection Janet. I particularly like the tartan one. Our summers are hot and dry. I have one cropped tee, but the rest are woven: a sleeveless chambray tie front shirt and a sleeveless asymmetrical fuschia top and a couple of others. I wear dresses mostly in the heat so don't have many.

I was taking stock of my summer tops and have a good assortment that I’m happy with. In line with Angie’s blog post today, here is a representation of what I have and wear for summer. Our summers are hot and humid (90 degrees with 80+% humidity is not uncommon), and most importantly, it doesn’t cool off much at night once we get into June through July and August, so you never really feel like you get a refreshing break from the mugginess. So dressing cool is important to me.

I rely heavily on a little collection I have of Madewell V-neck tees (duplicates in black, white, raisin, marine blue, and forest green), and some other basic tees. But I’m also noticing that the tie-front too that’s trending now has been working for me for years to add structure and shape to loose summer outfits. So I’m liking these detailed casual tops and may add another one or two if I see the right ones. Even though summer wear tends to be harder on clothes, I have some simple knit summer tops that are still going strong after several years.

How about you? What tops do you rely on for hot summer wear?
