A nice collection! I do find fall/winter a little too cold for skirts really. I only wear them for dress up occasions at that time of year and then it’s two pair of hose...

I've also noticed that skirts are one category where I have no crossover whatsoever between winter wear and summer wear. I have a similarly small handful of skirts that I wear in cool weather, and I've found time and again that the skirts that look and feel best with leggings/tights are very different from the ones that look and feel best with bare legs.

Totally agree with you here. Especially when I lived in your climate. Same was true for dresses, of course.

Now in the Pacific Northwest there is a tiny bit more overlap. But I still absolutely have dedicated not cross-seasonal skirts and dresses because that's what works.

That's a great observation LaPed, and I agree - one type of skirt is fab with tights and booties or whatever in colder weather; a totally different type with sandals for summer - to my eye as well, at least.

Suntiger and nemosmom -- I don't really wear these three skirts at all once it's cold. The proportions aren't quite right for any of my boots, and the fabrics don't work well with tights or leggings because they catch and cling. I used to have a couple vintage wool midi skirts with full linings; those were better for colder weather and I could see adding something like that again in the winter, but I'd need some different footwear. In the winter, I tend to go for shorter lengths, above the knee, to balance out chunkier footwear (I don't really have any "refined" boots). And I only reach for skirts on mild winter days. Below a certain temperature, it's long johns underneath pants. My winter skirts are below -- one puffy, one ruched jersey skirt, and one wool tweed.

lisa p -- I love my Only Child "two-piece dress"; I'm actually wearing the top half of it today. Beautiful fabric. And yes to skorts for gear! I've always been a fan.

That's funny, most of my skirts I wear year round! Come to think of it though, many are pencil skirts. Just my sweater skirt and thin swishy ones are seasonal to me.

I love your skirts, LaPed! I ordered the same NPL skirt last summer (in a rust color); it arrived too late to get any wear out of it, but I hope to figure out how to wear it this year. It is such a beautifully-made piece.

I struggle SO much with skirts. I used to wear them more often in the cooler months with boots, but the weather here does not cooperate - I run way too cold to wear anything swishy in our cold weather - maybe I haven't considered fabrication of my skirts as much as I should... Do you wear your raw silk one in winter, too?

I like your collection, small or not. I just remembered having a piece from Only Child years ago, also a skirt, and it was gorgeous. Like a piece of fabric art. Also pull-on ....
I must take a look at their website ! I like skirts (with a shorts liner) for outdoor summer activities too -and think they are a classic (tennis, golf, walking etc)

My skirt selection has dwindled somewhat as I've leaned hard into an extreme casual/practical daily style in the summer (I work on a school schedule). I used to have more simple, easy jersey skirts when I lived in the desert southwest, but have been retiring them as they get too ratty, so I'm down to just one of those (the black Toad&Co skirt in pic #1).

I have two nicer skirts that can dress up or down: the raw silk one in navy, from Only Child (pic #2), and an olive linen one from Not Perfect Linen (same style as #3, but in a different color). The jersey skirt is a good substitute for casual shorts, while the woven skirts are a good alternative when I want something with more structure.

Once upon a time, I had quick-dry synthetic hiking skirt that I loved, not to mention a couple of synthetic hiking dresses. I've been missing those, and a new hiking skirt is on my wishlist (pic #4).
