You are exactly right, Scarlet! Overexposure to the sun's damaging rays is what causes sunburn and will absolutely ruin your skin. I use Neutrogena Age Shield Sunblock Face SPF 55 every single day, rain or shine. My very fair skin demands sunblock and I have been using it for over 30 years on my face and body without fail.

After slathering sunblock on my face, I also use Coppertone Sport SPF 50 on the rest of my skin whenever doing ANYTHING outside for more than 15 minutes.

My skin is pretty much wrinkle-free, and I'm 56!

I like a gel sunscreen. I have oil skin, so I don't care for the lotion at all. Neutrogena used to make a good one, but you can google "gel sunscreen" and get several other options. Most of them have an aloe vera base with chemical sunblock mixed in. I prefer chemical blocks, because mineral blocks always make me nearly reflective with my already fair skin-- my younger brother used to tell people I am not white-- but am glow-in-the-dark. I also find with mineral blocks that an area missed is more likely to get darker just from the reflection off my other skin. I am genetically weird because I am one of the few super white people that tans, but doesn't burn.

Good! Let us know how it goes! It's amazing how little work it takes to prevent sunburn, you just have to be diligent. I've lived in AZ for just over a year now, and the only time I got a sunburn was when I didn't realize the back of my shirt was so low, and then ate lunch outside with my back to the sun Usually I just cover my face, chest, and arms with sunscreen/lotion after I shower and it works wonders!

Good luck!

Tara. I'm also fair and used this product through on Summer on me and the girls. I'm now hooked and would really recommend the product. Good luck!

I'll join you Tara

I'm good at putting sunscreen on my face everyday (I use this one:http://www.epharmacy.com.au/pr.....y+Face+75g) but I'm not good at remembering to put it anywhere else. I remember seeing a dry spray body sunscreen maybe by Neutrogena...I'll look into it and make the effort to apply it regularly.

I wouldn't say that loss of moisture causes sunburns. The UV radiation damages the DNA to the point that the cells actually die. I suppose that being well-hydrated in general is probably protective at some level in terms of your defense systems working as well as they can.

Loss of moisture is what causes sunburns, so moisturizing is important. Aloe is a good choice!

Tara, please do take care of yourself. I understand it takes only one bad sunburn to put yourself at serious risk for years of skin issues and cancer watches. Please do very very careful!

I am putting this out there as an Accountability measure. I have promised myself (and my mother) that this summer, I will not get sunburned.

I am very pale and burn extremely easily in the Australian sun. Heading north to QLD for 2 weeks will prove quite a challenge! My track record is not good, having been quite badly sunburned many times. It only takes a few times for the damage to be done for life! :-|

This means:
- Sunblock. Lots of sunblock.
- Covering up for longer periods in the sun
- Moisturising twice per day

Wish me luck in taking care of my skin. Aussie YLF ladies - you will see me next week and will be able to keep me accountable!

No tomatoes/lobsters here.
