I also vote for a lighter color to balance out all the darker one's you have here. You have a lovely suit capsule!

In skimming though my comments are
- I like all the jackets on you and think a mix of short and long is a good idea for variety. The skirts and pants are great too. I am hopeless with hemming so will leave that to others.
- Suit 1 is terrific on you and I also love the last one.
- I am not a fan of the gilet, I don't know why. A button change might help though.

For the next one, I think a light colour would be nice, maybe a light grey or even a bone or cream/off white.

You do suit (oh dear bad pun) them very well.

Thank you very much, Gryffin! I really like the blue plaid, it is very pretty and fun! I have quite a few BR items and the fit is different from item to item, but a lot of them work for me. I will give this suit a try.

Tanya - just got an email from BR. Don't know if you like the store or how their items fit, but you mentioned plaid and fun, thought this was a gorgeous color that would be very flattering, elegant but different. Just a thought.

Gryffin, thank you very much for your input! I love the design of the VB scuba jacket, and it is on the short list of my "must get investment items" in the next couple of years. I am not going to be able to afford it at the full price, plus the matching bottom, this season - perhaps the next year. I may luck out and find something on sale past Christmas - though I do not know if these ever go on sale. The VB site has the scuba jacket in lovely dark burgundy color, not sure if matching bottoms exist though. The moss is beautiful, too.

Tanya - I think you have an awesome capsule of suits. You look great in both the shorter and longer jackets, lucky girl. Just putting in a plug "for your good suit purchase" would you consider trying on the VB scuba jacket? I know it's a boatload of cash. I was just checking for myself but it has matching skirts, pants, leggings (which look more like pants as per the reviews) and even a dress (style, unusual, you'd have to try that on) not all colors have all pieces available. There is a lovely moss/olive jacket and shirt. The material is fabulous for travel and all season and the little design tweaks make it interesting but still classic. Just a thought.

Thank you very much for your input, everyone! Lots of useful thoughts here.

Style Fan, it is interesting how different people prefer different jacket lengths, isn't it? I could just decide that both lengths work :)

Isabelle, that is an excellent idea, and I actually have perfect taupe booties for the suit. I always forget that suits can be worn with booties, but I am very new to wearing suits somewhat regularly. I do run a little cold, and I prefer pants suits in general to skirt suits, unless there is something super special about the skirt or the skirt is the third piece in the pant suit.

Suz, I think that a couple of years ago we talked about coming up with a challenge to would make us wear our taupe suits more :) I will try to do some looks with tops some time in the near future when I have time and there is light outside. I will probably do that with the navy suit first as I plan to make it the base for the 3-day business trip capsule that needs to be fairly conservative, that is comping up in mid-October.

Jane, it seems that everyone is agreement about pattern and light color being next.

At this point, I am quite seriously debating getting this plaid WHBM "suit" as the fun one. I am not sure if it qualifies as a proper suit since the jacket is moto, and also if the jacket is long enough to be worn with the matching pants. I have tried both pieces in the store and they fit pretty well. The dressing room photo has a strange angle and my legs look like they are 2 feet long :( There is also a matching sheath dress that I haven't tried on yet, but would consider if the fit is right. The plaid has a little bit of purple it in, which is one of my favorite colors.

Well done for sorting through, they all look good, I love the taupe and the dress is gorgeous. I would go for a lighter colour or pattern next. You've done really well with getting suits that work well for you. And I like the lace inserts.

You look amazing in all of these, and hello taupe suit twin!!! :). LOVE #7 (tuxedo suit) also. You have a ton of variety already but I vote for pattern for one and I am with Angie on recommending a light coloured addition.

I think you are sorted on questions here but I would also love to see the various tops you might wear with some of these.

I was thinking higher shaft shoes, like booties, rather than letting the hems out - the suit is not new, so you might get a visible crease if you alter now. Angie doesn't mind the length anyway, so you're sorted :)

Forgot to say : you look amazing in #3, 8, 14 so your next suit doesn't have to be a pantsuit (unless you run cold).

This was very interesting to read Tanya. I really can not tell that you have a long torso. I find the shorter jackets more flattering which is what some of the others have said. Angie prefers the longer jackets. And then you have said that you prefer longer jackets so that is important too. I do like the taupe colour on you. Lovely with your colouring. After all that musing I think I like Suit #7 the best. The sleeve length highlights your waist and the material is not quite so conservative.

Thank you VERY much for such a detailed response, Angie. It is very much appreciated. A couple of replies:

Suit #2: The lace inserts are vertical in the front in the back, where the darts would be ( see in the Find). I agree with you, I originally wanted to line the lace, but upon receiving the jacket changed my mind. I will keep it as is.

Suit #3: The sheath is actually a tiny bit loose, on purpose, so no issues with that. I will hem the straight legged pants shorter. I am thinking about buying shoes in Find #2 for this suit for an important conservative work event in mid-October.

Suit #4: My least favorite as well. I have kept the jacket exactly for that purpose.

Suit #5: The jacket feels a little short when compared to my other jackets, but borderline fine when on the body.

Suit #6: The jacket and gilet fit fine ( I can fit the J Crew long sleeve cashmere tee under the jacket without any issues), so it must be the photo angle. The pants are actually not straight, but very narrow bootcut, hence my hemming dilemma. I agree about the low contrast shoes.

And love your "next suit" suggestions, thank you!

Thanks for posting, Tanya. You were BUSY Friday night.

WOW. Lots of fabulous suits. You are as professional and gorgeous in them as ever. Wave to Isabelle.

I worked through your questions. Here are my suggestions:

Suit #1 - Taupe suit - MT BEST. KILLER. Gorgeous colour on you. Chic. Unique. Pretty AND powerful. Wave to Suz.

Suit #2 - Where are the lace insets on the suit? Beautiful fit and proportions. Seems a shame to line the lace. Wear low contrast underneath instead.

Suit #3 - Conservative 3-piece navy suit is a goodie too. ELEGANT. Killer. You need one of those in your line of work. Straight legs do not need a break line, so the shorter length is better. I like the look best with low contrast shoes. Sheath looks good - although check it’s not too tight when you sit down. Longer jacket over the sheath is trendy actually. Fab on your long torso.

Suit #4 - Theory suit - my least favourite. Keep the jacket as as item to wear with jeans.

Suit #5 - FUN. Shrunken jacket is fine. Not ideal - but cute. Does it feel weirdly short on the body?

Suit #6 - NICE. Jacket and gilet look a bit small though. Could be the photo angle? Pants with straight hems need to be hemmed a little shorter to prevent sloppy break lines. Low contrast shoes are best.

Suit #7 - KILLER. Beautiful proportions. My next fave. Longer jackets ARE better on you. Makes suit #5 look too short.

As for the extra question - my 2 cents: A patterned suit for the “fun" suit. Another LIGHT suit for the next “good” suit.

Thank you very much for your input Lisa, Anchie and Skylurker. You are giving me lots of great ideas about the next suit. And I am quite surprised (positively) to hear that you think the shorter jacket works equally, if not better, than the longer ones - I have always though that with my very long torso I should wear longer jackets to look more balanced.

Lisa, your ideas about colors and statements sound really good. I would love something in burgundy or teal... or some plaid. When I think suit, I do think of matching pieces, but of course it doesn't have to be that way. I would wear a colored jacket with neutral pants.

Anchie, I really like the idea of a matching suit in plaid, thank you.

Skylurker, thank you for taking the time to comment at the suits individually - you are Queen Suits and your opinion matters a lot to me.
The open shoes have been shown here merely to show how the pants drape over them - I am on the lookout for more traditional closed pumps with same low block heel. For more formal work occasions, I plan to be wearing the suits mostly with such pumps, and perhaps booties with the same heel if the weather is really cold.
I have worn #1 with he same open shoes a couple of times. There is extra material in the pants, so perhaps I should have them let out?
#9 - yes, the cut is on the shrunken side, and the pants are not in rotation anymore. The jacket still gets worn here and there.
#6 needs hemming so it sounds like the shorter length is the way to go.
Glad that #11 works as is.

Colour : I like the taupe better than charcoal, black or navy on you.
Proportions : I like #11 best. Defining waist. Slight flares that drape well over your heels.

Re jacket lengths : you can wear the short as well as long jackets, I see no problem here.
Re trousers lengths : I'm scratching my head over your shoe choices here, will you wear such open shoes with wool suits? Do you plan to wear pumps and knee highs? Booties?
Anyway. #1 looks too short for low vamped shoes.
#9 looks too short (the whole suit looks shrunken)
# 6 doesn't drape well over your heels so I'll say : the shorter length here, with flats.
I like #11 as is.

As for your next suits, maybe light colour, sharp shoulders, cinched waist?

I have to agree with lisa p - I prefer the shorter jacket on you. Maybe it visually shortens the long waist? I am no expert to hemming so will leave it to others. Regarding your next one - I think you are covered with classics in neutrals. Something colorful, or maybe plaid?

I've read your whole post but got lost in the photos What I do have an opinion on is the navy pinstriped suit - I think the jacket fits your beautifully and is not too short at all. As a matter of fact , this is my favourite of the suits here . Hemming questions I'll leave to the expert - when left to my own devices , I prefer pants on the shorter side ( ankle length ) which isn't always popular . I don't care for pant legs breaking over shoes unless it's a deliberately drapey / wide leg pant worn with loafers or brogues . In terms of new suits , I'd suggest something " fashiony" - maybe a fit and flare type jacket , or something with colour /contrast details ....and a flare leg or wider leg pant ? You know , something quite statement-y. And then something in wine / burgundy or even in olive ( if there is such a thing) would be a great way to add some colour . Do you really want matched suits though - or are you open to individual pieces that can work together I'd love to see you in something quite fashion-forward colour-wise ...you have the height and sleek figure for it !

As I promised to Angie, here is my suit capsule. I took the photos late in the afternoon, so the light is not great and neither is the photo quality, but I figure the fit is obvious, while for the exact colors one can refer to the Finds. I can retake more photos tomorrow in better lightning if needed. At this point I have three groups of suits: 3 "good" new-ish ones, 1 "good" old one on its last breath and 3 fun inexpensive Express old ones. I would really appreciate your advice on my questions, highlighted in bold.

Group one: the good suits. All are by Elie Tahari, made of exactly the same wool material in three different colors: taupe, black, and textured navy (blue/black). All the pieces can be mixed and matched with each other. All the suits have longer jackets, to suit my long torso, and pants are different cuts.
Suit #1: Taupe (Photo 1, Finds 1&2). I have had it since 2014, and wore 5-ish times since for interviews and such. Pants are slim ankle.
Suit #2: Black, 3 piece with an extra pencil skirt (Photos 2-4, Finds 3-5), from this summer. Pants are slim full length. I got both bottoms for a ridiculous price at the Rack and found a matching jacket online. Not sure if I should have the lace insets on the jacket lined.
Suit #3: Navy, 3 piece with an extra sheath dress (Photos 5-8, Finds 6-8), also new from this summer. This is my most conservative suit, less fitted than the others. The dress has already been tailored. The pants are classic straight full length and need hemming. What length should I hem the pants to - I am never sure for classic straight legs? Also, is the jacket a bit too long and should I shorten it 1-2"?

Suit #4: My good but old suit is classic black Theory (Photo 9, Finds 9-10) with Gabe B jacket and Max C bootcut pants. The pants have been worn to death and one can tell that, so they have been re-purposed to ballroom practice capsule. The jacket is in great shape but a little tight so I wear it only over very thin layers.

Group 3: fun super old Express suits, barely worn and all in excellent condition.
Suit #5: Navy pinstripe (Photo 10). The pants are slim bootcut Columnist that I hacked into cropped kick flare recently since the leg opening is too narrow to properly drape over a heel. I am wondering about this length jacket on my long torso - is it borderline OK or too short?
Suit #6: Black double-weave material (great quality), 3 piece with a vest
(Photos 11-13, Finds 11&12 just the pants and the vest). The pants are the same Columnist cut with same problem as in #5 and I am wondering how to solve it - how should I hem them? I do not want to crop these into crop kick flares as I have already have two pairs of black kick crop flare pants. I am also planning to exchange jacket buttons for something nicer, perhaps pewter/silver toned metal.
Suit #7: Black skirt suit with tuxedo jacket and faux leather inserts (Photo #14).

Extra question: what do you think my two next pantsuits, one "good" and one fun/inexpensive should be? I am hoping to take advantage of pantsuits trending currently. I don't want any more black for sure. Many thanks if you have made it so far.
