Your words all seem so well-thought-out and suit your style so well! I feel like a lot of them really resonate with what I'd like to aim for too. Especially "feminine" and "effortless". Alas, I'm probably not quite cool enough for "rogue".

I think #3 might be my favorite here, with the cute print top and adorable shoes.

Great insights, and gorgeous outfits. Is it OK if I borrow Rogue for one of my own style descriptors (I could steal all of them, and Effortless is already on my list, actually)? It's exactly the word that's been eluding me.

I like all , but especially the way you did your scarf in #1. I have trouble with that particular tie...the point in front always ends up looking like a bib on me. I don't know how you did it, but now I want to keep trying.

I'm mulling over new words myself. At the start of my YFL experience I picked Casual Arty Classic and that seemed perfect. But now I'm realizing that I shy away from Classic. In all my shopping this winter, the things I reject or buy and return have all been leaning to Classic. I sort of like your Rogue, but I can't really do tough. Playful suits, but combined with Casual and Arty it doesn't keep me grounded...I had the Classic in there to keep the Arty from going too far into Boho.

Still mulling. But I know what you mean...it matters! No one else would get why except another YLFer!

I really enjoyed reading your style round up and the five style adjectives, it has given me plenty of food for thought. I think you look really polished in outfits 1,2 & 4, they fit exactly in with points 1-4 of your summary! Looking forward to seeing your rogue side!!

This is a great read and some good stuff to think about over the new year. I think you really nailed your adjectives, and your style is great. Outfit #1 is right up my alley. Love it! Thanks for the link to Angie's old post. I'll have to do my homework as well.

I love your 5 words & all the detail about them! Cultivated was my primary word pick from that Style Statement book, although their definition/associations are different than yours. :)

It sounds like you've got a great rubric for 2014 shopping/styling & I can't wait to see more of your WIWs.

Superb analysis! I can relate to much of what you've said here. I love your note to self about cotton t-shirts. You look great in all of these. I can see why they were your favorites. I especially love #1.

I guess it was about a year ago when many forum members were making up personal style rubrics with their adjectives. Mine was matchy, modern, classic, tailored, proportionate, and feminine. I've stayed pretty true to that. Now that I've got a better handle on proportions, I'm planning to swap that one out for edgy in the new year.

You look so lovely! I am with LACeleste, I am loving the 'touch of Rogue'. There is also a geek-chic element here that I love. But 'geek' has negative connotations for some people (not me), so I am going to say "Intellectual Chic", because the woman I see in these photos is lovely, bubbly, adorable... and smart.

First things first: Major props to all of You YLF-ers and your fabulously wide range of personal style - you illustrate on a daily basis that it is possible can look appropriate for any occasion and be stylish and wear things that you love!

I didn’t want to officially be a No[repeat]vember-er, but managed not to repeat any outfits since during the month of November and diligently photographed everything I wore. A visual log of outfits for the month turned out to be a great tool in assessing what works for me and why I like it.

I know Angie always recommends assessing one’s bra, specs and hair first when renewing or refreshing your style. I had specs and bra down, but never gave my hair a second thought! I see a huge difference in my overall presentation looking at my WIW photos pre and post haircut.

After poring over my collection of looks, I picked my favourites: #1 Sparkle Bandit, #2 Dark and Stompy, #3 WIW (and love), #4 Whisper not Shout, and #5, the Poetically Named “November 6th”.

...and did Angie’s “5 adjectives” assignment from a couple of years ago (http://youlookfab.com/2011/06/.....our-style/).

I haven’t come up with a catchy persona yet, but I am much more confident in my clothes. I am also pleased to have a set of words to test potential purchases. Hopefully armed with what I have learned I can make better shopping choices in 2014.

Do you see what I see? What are your adjectives? Did they change over the last year?

Here's what I came up with:

Luxe: I don’t have an unlimited budget, but I want to give the same impression with my look that causes Heidi Klum to look at a dress made of flowers and candy on Project Runway and say “it looks expensive”. I like items to be in pristine condition and of substantial-looking fabrics. Things should fit well and suit me. Jewellery may be costume, but it is probably subtle. I think this is where I need the most work. Note to self: Cotton T-Shirts often do not look luxe!

Cultivated: By which I mean the dictionary definition, “Refined and well educated”. I want to feel more current, which means being knowledgeable about trends and shopping with an informed eye for the ones that work for me. Pristine, nicely made things that fit well belong in my wardrobe. Anything tired or worn should be culled.

Effortless: This applies both to individual pieces and whole outfits. I am loving fluid fits and fabrics with a bit of drape. In the past I have tried to incorporate brights, but I feel best in lower contrast colour combinations, and that’s okay. My hero pieces are interesting and easy to style; for example, my heart print J.Crew Blouse and Black and Blue Zebra cardigan. Anything that requires complicated layering or a very specific outfit to look good doesn’t make me feel fab.

Feminine: My figure helps here, as does hair style and makeup. I don’t want to be girly, and womanly doesn’t sound quite right either; I just know that I feel amazing done up in a dress and sky-high heels. All of my favourite looks have distinctly feminine components: heeled shoes, a skirt or dress, ladylike hose, sparkle, or jewellery.

Rogue: “Playfully Mischeivous”. My favourites incorporate some whimsy, tough elements, or both. This captures my nerdy and band tee-shirts, figural prints, moto-inspired pieces, and spikey loafers! As a teenager I was equal parts goth and twee, as the spirit moved me. Post-college I bought lots of dull basics in order to look grown up. I felt like a dull, confused, business-casual robot.
