RL, i thought that was the point of all the monikers and style words, etc—to be able to guide yourself to the look you want. A post analyzing how you hit the wrong target with a couple outfits would be cool. Like really breaking it down “I chose this belt because....”

Maybe that’s her appeal to me—making “yesterday’s news” look good. That’s what is in my closet. I have a big deadline on Jan 14, will have to post a brainstorming outfit session after that, but am not expecting to buy anything new. How funny that you’ve never seen me in pants—I don’t think of myself as ladylike at all! These are my newest pants, most purchased summer & fall of 2018, but the red in Feb 2019. I might get some wide legs this summer; right now the only ones I have are jumpsuits.

Boy that’s a good question, FI. I constantly marvel at how I think I’m doing one thing and yet fail to produce what I’m thinking about. Eg, I’m thinking Sporty Luxe and yet what I get is Quirky Waif. It’s not that I’m unhappy with the result, but I don’t understand why thinking Quirky Waif doesn’t produce Quirky Waif...

I can't replicate her outfits, and I'm questioning if anyone else even can (without looking like a clown.. sorry). But she inspires me to see new combinations in my own wardrobe. Fun juxtapositions. Be more creative.
As to you being tired of your minis: how fun to explore your style further! I'm not sure I've ever seen you in pants (!). I bet you'd look fabulous in slacks, long loose fitting black trousers. Something with a little drama!

FI, I'm wondering the same thing. As I said in the OP, I am amazed that this cacophony still looks so current, trendy, now. I love her use of colour, different textures, silhouettes. How she makes even "yesterdays news", untrendy items and clichés look super cool (the white slouchy boots).

A question: I can see her general influence, but how does it actually work? I mean, if the point is to be creative, then you don’t want to slavishly copy what she wears. Even if you did want to wear the very same thing she does, you might not have those elements in your closet, not to mention that things look different on different bodies.

I’m asking because I’m starting to feel stuck. I like the short skirts and have had fun with them this winter, but enough already. When I pull out my pants, I really don’t see exciting ways to wear them. So how do I look at someone else’s pix, of their body, their wardrobe, and transfer it to myself?

I can see why you like her!
I myself have a hard time finding truly inspiring bloggers these days: they're either too plain (and thus uninspiring) or too out there for me. I get more inspiration from costume movies (love those classic cut dresses, coats etc from shows like Mad men, Miss Maisel etc) and of course this forum, and Angies outfit formulas.

These women are great.

I like Karen Britchick- and Useless for different reasons.

Karen has a flamboyant style I admire. Really fun - lots of vintage. New York based.

Signe from Useless is also into vintage - her style is simple and she likes neutrals. But I love her repeating pieces often!

Oh yes, Linda Rodin is very inspirational, too. Thanks for sharing those gorgeous pictures.

Fun that you like these amazing ladies who are not young anymore, but indeed have incredibly personal styles. I have felt the same way always. When I was 10, I saw an article in a fashion magazine featuring stunning 40 years old ladies, and it made a lasting impression. I decided that 'I want to look like them when I grow up.' When I was in my teens, twenties and thirties, people were very surprised when I told them that I looked forward to becoming 40, 50, and more. I always thought that experienced grown-ups were--and in several cases also looked-- more interesting than young people.

+40 ladies with great personal style are still my style heroes. That's one of the reasons I enjoy being here at YLF, where there are many of them.

Slim cat, yay! Thank you. I have been greatly influenced by her to dress bolder, more unconventional and more expressive. Glad it shows!

Thanks for the heads up on Gitte, the Cat! I love exploring new inspiration.

Another stylish lady I admire is Linda Rodin. I believe she has been mentioned on the forum before. I love her strickt colour palette, fancy footwear (silver bookending!) and trendy, yet classic style.

Thanks for sharing. I haven't seen Mette Sorrig before, but will definitely remember her from now on. She has a fascinating, personal, creative style and, obviously, a keen eye for details. (Notice the great effect of glasses, belts, necklaces, fun footwear, and sophisticated colour repetition.) I, too, can see her influence in your style, Synne.

Here is another stylish and inspirational Danish lady, Gitte Lee: https://www.advanced.style/201.....style.html
Gitte has a different style than Mette and was born in 1935, so she is 84 years old. However, her timeless elegance with dramatic strokes is a perennial inspiration to me--and many others, I think. The concept of her single, but elegant uniform often comes to mind when I am packing for travelling. Quoting from the article in the above link:

"She has her own timeless and elegant and uniform ready for all occasions. Her outfits are the same for every season, a sweater, long coat, and pair of loose trousers. She wears her signature black glasses and different hats to protect her skin from the sun. The true secret to Gitte’s style is that she changes fabrics to suit the season, lighter cotton for the summer, and heavier fabrics during the colder months, but sticks to a simple and clean color palette and structure and accessorizes to suit each outfit. Each beautiful combination is subtly different with the change of a hat or bag and they can be worn day or night in all types of weather."
