I see irons all the time at thrift stores, I guess ironing is going out of style :-/
Just plug it in to make sure it works.

I think I have a Black & Decker steam iron. I've had it for *like* 25 years. I've never felt the need to be fancy with an iron. Just make sure the plastic doesn't look too cheap...

Thanks ladies, I'm probably overthinking irons a bit! I will check those out.

@crutcher thank you for reminding me of those coupons! I always forget to use them.

I recently replaced my iron with a Shark Lightweight Professional. Under $30.I couldn't justify the price of a Rowenta, I have lots of non-iron things so I really only need it for touch ups. (Plus I have a steamer.). It works great, lots of steam, easy to handle.

If you have a Bed Bath and Beyond in your area, they offer a discount (I have one for 20% now)...You can print the coupon online and sometimes I have been able to go into the store and get a coupon with the order...As to brands, I would check Amazon for the best rec brand...Walmart is also a good place to look and they also have reviews...I have a Proctor Silex steam that has been wonderful...Good luck...

No help here. I would love to get a steamer, but alas, I am really lazy when it comes to such things. I try not to buy fabrics that need ironing. (Bad, I know).

I looked on Amazon and I saw a Rowenta for less than $50. Maybe there are multiple models?

it fell off the board and split open. I think it still works electrically but the screw bit that holds the plate to the top broke and would be unstable even if I managed to glue it.

(awwww I wanted to wear that linen skirt today, atm it's being a wrinklemaster)

Sooo I think I need a new iron and I assumed YLF would have more experience with steam irons and could provide some recommendations. The one I used was a Hamilton Beach hand-me-down from my stepmom and I was generally satisfied with it.

My lifestyle doesn't justify shelling out for a Rowenta; I would only use it occasionally for ironing/pressing button-ups, pants, skirts, and sewing projects. Prefer to keep it below $50?

(i don't know what category this belongs in)
