Good to know. Uniqlo seems like a very sensible company.

I shan't bemoan our unable-to-wear-coats-weather of late because of the frigid conditions elsewhere. I just wish I could send those poor cold folks our extra degrees.

Janet, I always size up on the heattech even though I find the rest of uniqlo runs true to size. I haven't bought any this year though, although I may place an order. I'm about your size on top and generally buy large. I am not sure they are comparable but my Airism tee from earlier this year is a bit looser than my older heattech tee. Both are Larges. I prefer the fit of the Airism as it can be worn on its own, while I think even the L heattech is too clingy around the hips.

Janet, I'm a probably about your size and I got a Medium in the Heatech and am quite happy with the fit. (I use it as a base layer for outdoor workouts) I'm 5'5" and 135lbs with strong shoulders and a 34B bust.

I WISH I had bought the down coat (without a collar) while I was at ALL 3 Uniqlo stores in London last year. My SIL did and with this crazy winter we are having in Canada it would have been nice to have a down coat to layer under my wool coats. As it is, all I've been able to wear outside lately is my puffers! LOL

Oh well, I plan on going back next year, I'll pick one up then and not be so darn cheap!

I'm thinking of ordering a couple of the Heattech scoop necks for layering. I have an old one but it's a different cut and I suspect the sizing may run different. I'm typically a size 6-8 US, and I'm torn between the M and L in the Heattech long sleeve shirts -- I hate when sleeves are too short, but there's no difference in sleeve length between the two sizes. Any advice on which size to order?

I have Heattech long underwear, some short-sleeved thin Heattech scoop necks (great under boatneck sweaters), a packable down jacket (can be layered under another coat), and a couple of cotton V-neck sweaters. I love all of these!

I bought DD a Uniqlo merino sweater ($17 or so!) in S, and she probably takes a 4 or junior 5 due to her shoulders. I would say they run pretty TTS. The web site has size charts and garment dimensions I believe.

Parsley, I think the cashmere at Uniqlo is very unreliable. If you really want a treat, try Eric Bompard (several locations) Or where I go, Richard Grand, on Rue St. Honore. They are so nice there, family run business, italian cashmere in beautiful colorways!

The older Heattech is basically a (great!) layering item. I tried the new, heavier Heattech, and it is more like a standalone item and very, very different. It doesn't cling like underwear, so by mistake I bought a size too big (since I sized up on the older Heattech). I may go back to the store while wearing a tank top and try on one of the samples to see if I can get a fit on the smaller size and really evaluate the cut.

I found the down vests to be a cute, lightweight item, perfect for SoCal weather if one wants the down vest look. Since DD is attending school outside Chicago, I passed and bought her one that is more typically warm. Actually, I bought her six, and she is keeping one.

I also got a fleecy striped Heattech "lounge dress," which I don't really need, but somehow couldn't say no to.

Thanks, Karen. I have a friends who rave about Uniqlo down too. I have long been a fan of Uniqlo heat tech thermal underwear. They make the best by far. Lightweight, good fit, smooth, durable, and very warm. I really don't like bulky thermals with texture.

And I had seen those ultralight down items. I wanted a Polartek vest for running on cold outings, but have not managed to find even one, this season. I finally capitulated, and bought a jacket from Old Navy, which I plan to alter by removing the sleeves.

Wanted to share this link since I know Uniqlo is new to the U.S. and may not be in your city.

I first discovered the featherweight down jackets and vest when I was in Tokyo a few years ago. Since that time I've seen many imitations and iterations, but this is the original.

Two years ago I visited the New York City flagship store and bought some more down. It's so reasonable, layerable, and packable. Most of these items just roll into a ball and can be stuffed into the pouch they come with.

Here in socal, I find I most often wear the vest, so I plan on buying a few more for winter layering. The coats you see can also be layered under trenches and other coats you already own.
