I do always find it a bit hard to stomach how little my used clothes are worth! (It always seems like they are worth less than the secondhand clothes I buy...even though I sometimes get screaming deals on those too.) $50 sounds like pretty decent consignment earnings to me, and yes, anytime you are keeping things in circulation is good. Although the financial reward often seems disappointing for the effort...

Congratulations on making decisions and passing things on.
In order to have a wardrobe you love, you have to organize and edit and move some things out to somewhere.
SF, haven’t you been on this journey?
At this point, I no longer worry much about the $$ return, just a good home to avoid the landfill.

Well you made some cash from things you weren’t using so that s a plus.l think it’s difficult to know what to do with ones second hand stuff sometimes isn’t it,the second hand market can be difficult to negotiate as a seller.

Sounds like you did quite well, and are at peace with what and how you passed items on. That's important!

That’s pretty good, $50 bucks. There are pluses and minuses, as you say. Having worked consignment, I now positively despise it, lol. I’d rather sell to a place that buys immediately or try Freecycle or—what’s really me is wearing something until I destroy it (not that that works necessarily with growing kids). Of course, there’s so much stuff already in existence that will need to be disposed of and people just churn it out, regardless if anyone ever buys it… anyways, giving to Goodwill isn’t the worst thing either IMO… but my Goodwill closed during the pandemic, so it’s not even an option for me anymore.

This summer, I packed up a bag of our things to sell second-hand. When I dropped them at the consignment shop, I was told they’d be in touch in a month, or I could contact them if I didn’t hear from them. I just checked and found that wasn’t quite right—the owner was there and insists they never contact anyone. Several items were given to charity. Made me grumpy at first until I realize they didn’t include the linen pants I’d been wondering about. My son outgrew them; maybe they would’ve fit me.
Anyway, I made 42€ and change, about $50.
Would I do it again? Eh, it’s better than dropping things into the “charity” system that overwhelms other countries. My son probably isn’t growing much more. My things were from a time period spanning from before he was born until now; idk when I’ll have that many to move out again
