@Irina I gave up it too but that particular description stuck in my craw because I had to stop my eyes rolling into the back of my head when I read it I think that was the point when I realised the way that David Kibbe uses language is not the same as the way that the rest of the world uses it - hence everyone's confusion. Especially since he keeps recategorising celebrities as different types (yes, even celebs he's apparently 'verified' before lol!)

@Jenni I found it more useful to read about plus sized Kibbe types & also which Kibbe types tend to put on weight in which areas (I suspect I'm either Soft Classic or Romantic because I gain weight either evenly or more in the 'curvy' areas - hello childbirthing hips, lol!)

@Synne & @Suz
I use 'wet' kind of tongue in cheek (don't think Kibbe actually says that lol), since I don't look great in very rough textures (nubbly tweed/ crochet etc). I guess 'slick' is a more accurate description, but I'm not sure I could do a slinky silk slip (that clings to every lump & bump) either

Yep I struggle to wear anything chiffon myself these days, it’s just not my thing. It feels too slippery or clingy or unsubstantial or I don’t know really.

The only time I think I successfully made it work for me was back in the 90’s LOL. It was a white double layered chiffon blouse with a little bow under a turquoise suede moto jacket with a black short leather skirt, black hose and black patent pumps. I thought I had it going on in this outfit haha.

Well you’ve sent me Googling this morning as to what is chiffon versus mesh versus tulle. One article also mentioned organza. No article had the differences between all 4 of those fabrics!
I like them all. As far as Kibbe, I am still not sure if I am some kind of Gamine or a Theatrical Romantic. I suspect the former but it’s easier to see having lost my 12-13 kg in past 4 years which is a bit sad that you can only tell because of that? My recent extremely short haircut (which was a bit shorter than I meant to get this time) is garnering compliments at work on looking “sharp”, which I suspect may be because I am a gamine. Although initially I thought I was a TR more similar to Bijou- which may have partly been since Vivien Leigh was meant to be one and I love her looks!
Perhaps either of those types can wear those sort of fabrics? Wet or dry IDK?!

Dry and wet style types!!! Zaeobi, you're killing me! Haha, I haven't heard that before, but it is just spot on!!

I am definitely a wet style type. Chiffon is too delicate, flimsy and floaty for me, I feel like a wet rag in it, lol. I definitely need drier fabrics. How interesting, I remember I have always felt great in tweedy fabrics and faux fur since my late teens. It definitely isn't age related to me, I hated shiny polyester/satin for me then and still do.

I had picked up on Kibbe Kibbe Naturals needing "bolder and bigger" accessories and knits etc., but dry/wet was new for me! This makes total sense.

As for why I am a "slicker" style type. My skin and hair is very prone to being oily. Is that why?? Also I have little colour definition in my features. Hm.. need to dive into this more.

Edit: no, of course it's the other way around and I am a drier style type? No? I need a morning coffee:-D

I think it’s also about colouring. I’m a “light spring” colouring, with fine, fair hair, but a very Yang body type in kibbe terms. Lightweight silks, chiffons work well in the right colours (but are wayyyy too delicate and formal for my lifestyle!). I can also wear iridescent and sequined finishes v happily, so long as the cut is elongated and straight (no ruffles!). Essentially, if I attended formal evening parties all the time, or went to 1920s-1930s retro weekends, I’d have no problem at all :)
So v textured fabrics do not work for me (nubbly tweed, v textured knits) unless they also appear very soft, light and floaty. stiff, heavier fabrics like denim are also not v good. I think this is what some style type writers refer to as ‘ethereal’ style.

Maybe I'm a 'wet' Kibbe type? *Shudders typing that*

LOL Zaeobi, you totally made my day! And now I feel like going back down the Kibbe rabbit hole because I don't remember that "dry" descriptor. Or much of what he says about any of this. You're right, though, he does go a bit into texture. Hmmm.

Rachy, you also made me laugh.

And yes!! Chiffon looks perfect on Bijou!!

Thinking it through, one reason it works for me on the dress I showed is that the dress has very simple modern lines (a bit yang). Which can be unusual in a chiffon garment.

I hope chiffon wearing is not age specific because I love it and the lightness of fabrication works perfectly for my warm climate. As a Romantic kibbe type, chiffon, lace, velvet, silk and satin are all fabrics that work on me. Rustic fabrics such as natural linen and chunky knits are not in my wheelhouse and look like they are wearing me, whereas on a Natural kibbe type, these look beautiful and authentic. No need to try to wear everything, just wear what you enjoy and what feels effortless. Chiffon is an effortless fabric for me.

Hmm having read some of the other responses, I get the feeling this is what Kibble was *attempting* to say with his rather subjectively confusing descriptions of each type.

I.e. when he describes certain types as being 'dry' I suspect what he's saying is similar to what you all are, that certain Kibbe types suit more matte/ textured fabrics (like crochet etc) rather than slinky satin/ shiny silk etc.

I know that, as much as I would *like* to, I can't wear my open knit jumper without either floaty or shiny bottoms. Maybe I'm a 'wet' Kibbe type? *Shudders typing that*

Maybe I'll do some deeper reading on it when I'm not up to my eyeballs in MA readings already But for now, I'd be interested to see what other literature there is out there - e.g. as @Synne mentioned, which (faux) fur types suit which skin types?

Olive Green, I'm going to wear it tonight to a friend's for supper. :)

It's not fussy if paired with a sweater and boots rather than a fancy top.

The chiffon dress above actually has an underlayer of crepe de chine and then chiffon over top and only the sleeve is sheer chiffon alone. It's not hard to wear at all -- for me, I mean -- except for the fact that it is a dress and too short, LOL. But I think once I get it altered as a blouse I will wear it a lot.

I realize I have a black piece of clothing, and it is a sleeveless chiffon v neck top I cannot imagine as a casual piece. I never wear it, its like its waiting for an occasion that has never happened.
I did long sleeve tailored chiffon blouses in heavier fabrications for work, with very tailored pants and low heels. The stuff takes strong color dyes beautifully so green and purple are a couple tops I remember. They did not wrinkle when packed, bonus.
So, heavier weight light weight fabrics are better for me than the floaty things.
Would love a place to wear Suz’s plaid tulle skirt.

Interesting, marled textures should work for me since it’s somewhat similar to colors in my grey hair but never look good. I feel I look out of focus, dull in them. Shiny silks are fine and make my hair shine, too. Textures are tricky I mostly avoid it.

Shiny fabrics have never suited me, especially not flimsy or drapey ones. They feel too femme as does very fine cotton. As my skin acquires more texture (ha, ha, ha) so does my preference for textured fabrics, including marl and tweed.

I think that texture is probably just as important as colour yet not considered as much. I like some colours in some textures and not others.

I only have had a couple of chiffon pieces- I struggle mostly due to the need to layer under which I often don’t enjoy.

Looking good, Stag! I think I could wear silk, if it was the matte kind. Now, why do you suit the shiny silks and not me? Maybe it isn't only skin quality (? Oily, matte) but also overall appearance, hair etc. My hair is thin and stick straight, while yours is fuller and wavy.. I believe I need to analyze this further

I don’t have the vocabulary to say anything intelligent about lace types. Someone used a word I’d never ever heard of to describe the dress I’m going to wear with my red skirt.

When I wear shiny silky fabrics (the pants are not silk), I think I do it in a cheeky kind of way that feels authentic only because I do it with a grin. I didn’t feel these outfits were fussy.

LaPed, yes, I would also like that! Texture is uncharted territory for me. I understand that different textures in an outfit adds interest, but I wouldn't be caught dead in a flimsy satin skirt, even if paired with chunky knits. It just looks wrong on me. As always, I would like to understand WHY.

I also have an issue with smooth polyester in trousers and tops. And not because of environmental or sweat issues, heh..

Do teach me about lace categories, Stag! I have a blouse with very big weaves(?), almost fishnet quality, with lace embroidery. That top I love! I also love cut lace with fringe ends. Very cool look, and it feels authentic on me.

Interesting.l don’t know if you are aware of Trinny Woodall the uk influencer with a make up range, but she’s feels that chiffon is very tricky to wear over a certain age.l am not saying that l agree or disagree with her but merely pointing out that you are not alone in your uncertainty around chiffon!
