Beth Ann love your statement

" Now that my ovaries have retired, I'm carrying a life supply of estrogen around my middle! My hips and booty are still there, but now they balance by hormonal life preserver and make me look feminine."

Too funny!!! That has happened to me too....my much younger self had a tiny waist but not it's a bit more balanced against the booty/hip measurement.

One of the "wonderful" surprises of the retiring ovary syndrome (I like these words of yours MUCH better than "menopause") is how ones body fat gets built up in some new places and shrunk in other areas. Mother Nature is such a joker!

Nice to meet you, Jane! I always associate a pretty pear shape with youth --- and great paintings!

You are quite petite overall, and your hips serve to make your waist look tiny. I speak from experience. I'm an hourglass by bone structure, but my weight distribution used to favor my hips and thighs. Now that my ovaries have retired, I'm carrying a life supply of estrogen around my middle! My hips and booty are still there, but now they balance by hormonal life preserver and make me look feminine.

May I encourage you to highlight what you love more than you try to disguise what you think are your flaws? It's so much more fun!

I love to cycle, and am glad to see others on the forum.

You look great! Another pear here. As others have said, you look very fit which is the main thing. One of the many benefits of exercise, I think, is that it makes us feel better about our bodies by shifting the focus onto the activity and goals within that activity--rather than it being all about making our bodies thinner, more muscular or losing weight--it becomes an enjoyable end in itself.

I struggle with my pear shape too sometimes, it comes and goes. Often I don't feel like my bum and hips are that big, just to see a picture where I'm standing just so... But I know that loosing weight doesn't change anything, even at my thinnest I still am noticeably pear shaped. So I try not to worry about it. I think it's way more difficult to dress my shape in summer, because the difference in size from bottom to top half is so much more obvious. I love dressing for winter in comparison, so much easier to reach a visual balance I'm happy with!

Jane you look great to me, and kudos to you for focusing on fitness and health. We all seem to be critical of our bodies, but for me participating in this blog has made me focus a lot more on finding looks that work for me and less on self-criticism. Hope you have a similar experience! And cheers to you for posting pics of yourself in workout gear, not all of us are quite brave enough to do that :-)

Go ahead and post some outfits when you are ready, it's fun and you'll get lots of great feedback!

Hi Jane,

You're enviably fit!!!! I don't think you need to lose any weight...you've got the pretty pear's body with just the right curves.

Angie has a lot of advice on dressing the pear shape on the blog. That's a good place to start. Also - look for forum member Ginger's WIWs. She's also a pear shape and rocks a flared dress & skirt.

You're fit and you're healthy. And you're also really cute! So if you choose to dress to flatter your curves, you're going to look like dynamite!

I think you look great. Don't put so much pressure on yourself to lose weight or spot reduce, as a pear shape myself if I lose too much weight I get scrawny on top and my hips stay the same. Sometimes I think I have the worlds smallest shoulders and the worlds biggest hips. Wear what you want and have fun with it!

Your pear shape is beautiful, Jane. You look fit, healthy, and just the right weight, actually! It's all a question of finding the manufacturers who "get" your body and dressing to play up its strengths rather than worrying about hiding its supposed weaknesses. Curves are lovely. And stretch is a girl's best friend! :)

I agree that you look very fit. I think you should continue to focus on exercise and eating healthy and dressing your body as it is. Maybe when you feel like you are dressing the best you can you will stop focusing on your hips and weight. I love that here at YLF we all have different body shapes and sizes and we all care about dressing nicely.

You have an enviable shape! I would encourage you to dress in a way that you feel good and not worry about extra pounds. If you are active and in good physical condition then your body is likely at a the weight it needs to be. Sometimes the trade off for losing a few pounds ends up costing energy and stamina needed to lead a healthy active life.

Hi Fabbers! I've stayed away from the forum, although I have been lurking.

Here are photos of me in leggings and vest, after a 30 mile bike ride, hence the sweaty appearance. My hips measure 41 to 42" and I really struggle with completely worrying about my size. I am 5ft 1" and weigh about 136lbs.

I exercise regularly, cycle and lots of walking, so I'm fit, but to loose a few pounds would be good.

I'm learning to dress around it and would like it to be something that I don't think about too often.

Thank you for looking.
