I am really appreciating seeing how you're approaching your 'introspection'

I'm afraid to even attempt Angie's 5-word blog exercise today - I sorely need this exact sort of exercise!

Love your diagram! What a fun exercise! Like MaryK, I would change to "DO" need to convey.

I made a little diagram on my way to work today too but mine is not as cute and organized as yours. I will be posting my insights on Angie's blog question shortly

There is certainly a lot of room in the middle, or towing the line and Kim so nicely put it, between the extremes. They were just components off the top of my head that were factors. I think I am right now at 41 feeling what many do at 39 or 40. I'm a late bloomer I guess. But I am feeling the shift to a 'grown up' although still casual, way to dress. Silly to still not feel grown up at 41!

Mary, I think you've got a good strong sense of your own style, and your confidence and playful nature are so integral to that - why flail if you don't need to?

LOVE that diagram! I haven't participated in much of this style analysis because none of it has really resonated with me, but I could get behind a diagram like that!

Strangely enough, I could almost adopt your diagram as is, except change the "DON'T need to convey" list to "DO need to convey!" LOL

Mo, that's a great diagram! I need to do this - Angie's blog has me thinking and I really want to come up with at least a starting point for an answer.

Mo, seems like you have an element of bombshell to your style, which I think is a nice way of conveying what you mean. I am thinking casual, chic, bombshell?

Sometimes writing down what you don't want really can make you appreciate what you do want. This is a very good exercise.

great diagram Mo! Thanks for sharing.
I totally get your desire to "tow the line" between the two extremes. I knew exactly what you meant in your blog comment about not wanting to appear so expensive as to create distance.
I need to do this.

Mo, I'm so glad you were inspired to do this little exercise. Your posts make me feel better and that I'm in good company. And you could never ramble as much as I do! Isn't it amazing how challenging it can be? I think part of it has to do with getting older for me and dealing with the other changes in life that has brought me.

ETA: FWIW, I think you DO project a lot of the qualities you want to project, at least to me, a relative "stranger".

Una has us all turning inward thinking about our closets this week. I have been jotting stuff down and thought I might share a little.

I think I've gotten the idea of silhouettes down and a basic color palette. I also have really started to think in more situation specific terms instead of just 'ooh, I like that!'. But I still hadn't really thought about what my clothes say about me.

To that end I did put a little drawing together this morning concerning both ends of the extreme that I do NOT want my clothes to say. I'll just attach a pic, as it's hard to translate onto the computer. I hope it's readable and not too small.

Basically, I think I want my style to present me as put together but not uptight or unapproachable and I want to be attractive but not outright sexy. Likewise, I want to be modern but not overly trendy. And I would like to be seen as fun over serious any day of the week! I know a lot about what I don't want to express lol. I'm not that concerned about appearing creative although I do like something interesting in an outfit or it falls flat to me. That could just be some detail like a twist or zipper embellishment.

I don't know if I'm closer to defining my style but I am at least thinking about what it might say about me. At this point, being appropriate is my latest focus along with accessorizing in a way that feels authentic to me. That may have been a lot of jumbled rambling! I feel I'm getting somewhere, though.
